Occupational Therapy is a health care profession that concentrate on recovering, developing
or maintaining the daily living of people who is having physical, emotional, and mental or
development disabilities. The person who is performing this therapy is known as
Occupational Therapist. They work with individuals of all ages. Occupational therapist uses
special equipment, physical and mental exercise for helping the disable person like
wheelchair and many more. They also help them to make them understand about dressing,
eating, mobility, and many other activities ( Koscinski). Occupational therapy helps to the
people who are physically disable, who are recovering from illness, who are getting older and
frailer and who is having mental problem.
There are different types of Occupational therapy which helps to heal the person.
Gerontology, Mental Health, BCP, Environmental modification, Low vision and many more.
Occupation Therapist is a rewarding profession. OT can work with the people of every age.
There is no age limitation. It can applicable on everyone at any stage of life, weather it is a
kid or old person. This profession leaves a lasting impression as to help those people who lost
all the hopes to recover or who are in need of cure and to help them is the very great feeling
in the world. Not only rewarding but also influential. Occupational therapy has a limitless
practice which means it is having countless practices and it is never ending process. It is a
growing profession as the growth rate is become higher every year. This profession is always
evolving, which means adaptation of new technology for initiate the treatment is always
better. For example use of 3D printed splints for hand therapy and burn treatment. This
profession has a wider scope and high employment opportunity and that is the reason students
want to join this profession. Different roles and responsibilities of Occupational therapist are
Examine the patient condition and analysing their need, planning the required treatment,
Keep watching mental condition of the patient, Review the treatment and provide required
modification, Educating the Patient family about the patient need and how to fulfil it, taking
exercises sessions which help them to recover fast, Initiates the session like, anxiety
management, time management. ( Koscinski).
