INTRODUCTION
A research can be defined as the systematic investigation and a study of sources and
materials so that new conclusions can be reached and facts can be established. The present topic
for the research is childhood obesity its impacts on emotional and social development of child.
Child obesity is when a child has too much of fat, it is classified as obese. It is the weight which
is well above the average for the age and height of child (de Sousa Jabbour and et. al., (2018)).
This classification is mainly based on body mass index (BMI). The main reason for this is
getting less engage in activities and in taking too much of calories from drinks and food. The
rationale for conducting this research is to identify how many children are subject to obesity and
how is affecting their social and economic development. This research is being carried because it
is an alarming social issue and it is important to gather information on this so that awareness can
be spread to prevent child obesity. The present report shall cover the literature review on topic,
existing data on it, policy analysis, reflection and research proposal.
MAIN BODY
LITERATURE REVIEW
For undertaking the research, secondary research is being used in this study. The books
and articles of the expert authors are referred to in this study through Literature review so that
valid outcome is delivered. The literature review is undertaken from the articles from the past 5
years so that relevant content is referred. With the help of Google Scholar, the journals have been
referred. In total 8 peered journals is being used in carrying on this research through Literature
review.
For undertaking this research, inclusion criteria is being used wherein the expert author’s
views and opinion are taken and the governmental policies on the topic is reviewed.
Concept of childhood obesity
According to Kiefner-Burmeister and Hinman, (2020), childhood obesity can be referred
to as the serious medical condition which affects the adolescents and children. It is mainly

troubling as extra pounds generally begin the child on path of health problems which are
considered as adult problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, etc. The
children who have the body mass index at same level of higher than their peers are called as
obese. The body mass index is said to be a tool which is used to determine the weight status by
using weight and height. It is considered as the serious threat to the health of children as kids
who are in obese category have been surpassed as being overweight and are at the risk of many
chronic health conditions and this poor health stemming from the child obesity may be continued
to adulthood (Kiefner-Burmeister and Hinman, (2020)).
According to Bleich et. al., (2018), as every person has its own body shape which is right
for her/ him at many times, there is excessive fat on the body. Obesity is referred to as the
excessive or abnormal fat accumulation which can impair the health. The healthy weight
trajectory comes when the weight and height of people changes proportionately together as the
child develops (Bleich and et. al., (2018)).
According to Schroeder et. al., (2021), There are many children who have unhealthy
weight and it is caused by eating too much of wrong food and have lesser amount of physical
activity. There are many interacting and complex system of factors which contribute to increased
rate of obesity and overweight such as biological, social, technological, behavioral, economic,
culture and environmental (Schroeder and et. al., (2021))
Consequences and causes of child obesity
According to Chen et. al., (2018), there is variety of reasons which causes obese and
overweight in children. The common causes for the same may be genetic factors, unhealthy
eating patterns, lack of any physical activity or the combination of all, there is one rare reason for
obesity in children which is hormonal problem. The causes of children obesity are discussed
below-
Food choices- The choices people make while consuming food is the biggest reason for
obesity. These mainly include the sugary and high fat food rather than healthier options
which can cause excessive weight gain in child and lead to obesity. The junk food
children consume nowadays such as cold drinks, burgers, pizza, etc. are many reason for
becoming obese.
