Operation Management Assignment - Doc_4
ASSIGNMENT 1INTRODUCTIONOperation management is defined as the process related to the planning, scheduling as well ascontrolling of the activities that assist the organization in transforming the raw material into thefinished goods (Chase, 2012). For the foundation of the discipline of operation management inthe different manufacturing industry Taylor scientific management principles plays a significantrole and these practices are also applied in the service industry.Question 1In the historical context, people are often engage in managing the activities and practices so thatorganisation may easily attain the stated goals and objectives. With the development andevolving of the different management theory it positively impacts the operational activitieswithin the organisation. The historical perspective related to operation management focuses onthe principle that are framed by the Frederick Winslow Taylor (Chung, 2013). He started themovement as well as the proper study of the work processes that include studying how individualperform their activities as well as how it affect their level productivity. Along with this, he alsoframed the scientific management principle as he believed that staff within the organisation aremotivated through the monetary rewards as the scientific principle engage in paying the fairamount for the fair day activities performed by the individual (Asyali and Bastug, 2014).Therefore, it is also stated that ideas of Taylor effective contribute in performing their operationin an effective manner within the manufacturing department that reduces the amount of wastage. The four principles of scientific management that is framed by Frederick Winslow Taylor are asfollows the foremost principle include replacing the rule of thumb from the manufacturingindustries and using scientific method so that staff can easily perform their activities in mosteffective and efficient manner. Another principle within the scientific management includesmanagement within the manufacturing or service industry should engage in matching therequirement of the job with the skills and abilities of the workers so that they may deliver themaximum efficiency (Cohen, 2013). The third principle of scientific management includesmonitoring or reviewing the performance of employees and staff within the industry and provideproper instruction so that they may engage in the cost-efficient way of operating their activities.5

The last principle within the scientific management includes assigning proper work and activitiesamong the staff and manager so that they may engage in designing proper activities related totraining so that staff within the service industry can properly perform their activities. In the contemporary service industry, a principle of scientific management plays the significantrole as it designed the tasks and activities in such a manner that it would ensure the worker to beat the productive level (Koumparoulis and Vlachopoulioti, 2012). Along with this Taylor's ideaoften applied in the service industry as it ensures proper selection of the workers according to thecompetencies and skills that individual possess for handling the operational activities in theproper and effective manner. Therefore, practices of the scientific management also ensure thatstaff within the service industry who adopt the effective practices and render services with higherefficiency are often rewarded for their services that support them in motivating and allow themto repeat the same activities in the future. Whereas it has also been assessed that Taylor principletowards the scientific management had mainly impacted the development of contemporarymanagement theories (Stark, 2015). The ideas of Taylor contributed in impacting and influencingthe aspect related to human resource management and accounting department within theestablishment. Therefore, in the present scenario management theories are often applied within the organisationthat engage in the operational activities. The operation management is defined as the effectiveprocess through which management can easily transform and exchange the raw material into theultimate goods that are needed by the customers. The real ground of scientific management hasimpacted the working activities of the employees and staff within the organisation. Operationwithin the service industry is also regarded as the transformation process that mainly comprisesof the three components that is used in the manufacturing organisation for converting semi-autoparts into the final products. Within the operation management, the foremost element is inputthat may be in the form of material, raw material or semi automobile parts or units (Hill and Hill,2012). The input are engaged in the transformation process that is a use of manufacturingactivities and actions in which the input is changed that also results in adding value to the input. The last step in the transformation system includes output that is the outcome of a process. In themanufacturing process of automobile organisation, the output is the ultimate and final productthat has been made by the organisation. 6

CONCLUSIONFrom the above assignment, it has been summing up that Taylor principle has supported theactivities of the manufacturing industries in such a manner that it results in performing theactivities in the effective and efficient manner without engaging in the wasting activities. Alongwith this, the assignment has also focused on gaining insight knowledge regarding theoperational management and the transformational systems within the industry as it assists intransforming the input into the finished output. In the contemporary service industry, a principleof scientific management plays the significant role as it designed the tasks and activities in such amanner that it would ensure the worker to be at the productive level7

ASSIGNMENT 2INTRODUCTIONIt has been assessed that operation management plays the vital role within the manufacturingprocess as well as the service system. The assignment would focus on the different componentsof the product strategy that support in attaining the effective product life cycle. Along with this,it would also focus on lasting various variables and reasons that cause failure of R&D project inthe operation management. Question 1- Three elements required in a product strategyIn order to successfully launch the new product and services, the product strategy plays thesignificant role as with the help of this manager can easily expand the distribution of theirproducts in the different region. There are three key elements that are required in the productstrategy of the company that mainly include target market, pricing and scheduling (Tamura,2013). The foremost element required in product strategy is target market that is deciding thecustomer segment that would keen interested in purchasing the new products. The target marketmust be considered on the ground of age, gender, sex, income, etc. that ensure proper distributionof the products. Another element in the product strategy includes pricing that ensures decidingthe monetary value or worth of the product through which company generate revenue. Thepricing element must focus on manufacturing cost with the distribution cost accompanied withthe desired profit margin. The last element in the product strategy is differentiation that ensuresdetermining the value or worth of the current product and compare with the competitor product(Mendibil, Rudberg and Errasti, 2013). The identified information regarding the product must beused in the marketing and promotional activities. Question 2- The best possible ventures identifiedWithin the manufacturing process, there are different possible ventures that are identified in thecontemporary scenario so that operational process can be engaged effectively and efficiently.Within the industries, the possible ventures that are identified include related with wastemanagement, processing of the activities so that it may lower the cost of the procedure, etc. 8
