INTRODUCTIONProject management is activity of initiating, planning, execution, controlling and closingthe work of group to accomplish particular objectives and meet specific success criteria at theparticular time. On other side, operation management is the direction of activities of business tomake the largest level of potential skilfulness within the company (Meredith, Mantel and Shafer,2017). Study is based on Bown Manufacturing company. Firm has different patented mechanicalparts. The name Aeolus had been utilized as trademark and specially for cycle parts. Report willintroduce the chosen company and example the operation vs operation management. It willconduct the review and critique and of the implementation of operation management principleswithin the selected firm. LO 1 & LO 2 1. Introduction to selected company The selected firm is Bown Manufacturing Organization was set up in 1862 inBirmingham through localized machinist, William Bown that made variety of patentedmechanical parts. The name Aeolus had been utilized as trademark since 1877 and specially forcycle parts. At first, firm manufactured different articles such as parts of sewing machines, horseclippers, roller skate wheels. Many of these instruments were the dependent of patents filedthrough William Bown. Also, firm offered instruments for other makes of bikes such as motorcycle, hubs, rim brakes, ball-bearing clutches and so on. Through 1892, firm had over 1000 workers in many workshops. William convertedbusiness to limited firm in 1893 after approaching their retirement. Now, company has estimated2300 employees working the organization. Company was capable to earn significant royalties byoperating patent for the popular Aeolus ball bearing between other goods in terms of sales fromtheir manufactured goods. 2. Explain the operation vs operation management Operation:Any kind of jobs or activities comprising one or more factors that can be performed inone location which is called as operation. It changes resources or data inputs into desiredproducts, facilities or outcome, make as well as deliver value to the consumers (Kerzner, 2017).There are two or more linked operations constitute procedure and are normally divided intodifferent classes processing, transport, storage and inspection. 1

Operation Management: Operation management is the field of arrangement obsessed with designing andcontrolling the procedure of production as well as remaking operations of business in themanufacturing of products or services (Matějka and et.al., 2016). It is taken up with handlingwhole manufacturing system that is procedure of converting inputs into outputs or deliver goodsor services. For managing operation, company needs to follow the various approaches like sixsigma. Six Sigma Approach: It is controlled and data driven concept as well as method of continuous improvement interms of removing defects in goods, procedures or service. The strategies of Six Sigma try todevelop the quality of procedure of output through determining and eliminating the reason offaults and reducing variability in production and business procedures (Nicholas and Steyn,2017). There are two methods involving Six Sigma such as DMAIC and DMADV.DMAIC: It stands for define, measure, analyse, improve and control of existent procedure of thebusiness. This can aid to improve and manage the operation of firm in effective manner. DMADV: It stand for define, measure, analyse, design and verify in terms of making new designof goods and procedures. This can help to improve and manage the operation of firm in effectivemanner. 3. Review and critique of implementation of principles of operations management withincompany There are various key modifications which are created to support in accomplishingobjective strategically of firm when operation management is applied. The strategic objectivesare met through knowing the most essential principles of handling the operation and give throughvisibility into the operations (Albrecht and Dasigi, 2016) There are various principles ofoperation management which involve reality, humility, success, organization, responsibility,causality, quality control, knowing the competition and collaborating with consumers in theBown Manufacturing Company. Reality and Organization: Operation management required to concentrate on the whole problems rather than justtechnique.
