INTRODUCTION
Organisation is a term that demonstrates an organised group of individuals that work for a
particular purpose by coordination between leadership and management. Leadership is an art that
works as an effective tool which motivates a group of individuals towards accomplishment of
common objectives and goal. Similarly, management refers to make better bringing
communication among all activities that is leading company for achieving goals within specified
time period. In the present scenario, all the business houses and individuals are working at global
level with implementing right skills and capabilities according to international level. According
to Dr. Ali Algahtani, 2014. Leadership and management both are different terms in which
management work to plan, organise and delegate the work for performing them as per decided
strategy (Anderson, Ellwood and Coleman, 2017). On the other side, leadership is used to inspire
and motivate individuals to perform work with implement of best ability. Academic Theories are
formulate for explaining, understanding and predicting better results by understanding all
situations that relates with development programs and leadership. Leadership development
programs play an important role for the organisational workers and employees that assist to
increase employee capability for performing organisational task in proper manner. In context of
academic theory it impacts on learning programs because it relates with theoretical aspects while
organisational task are implemented with practical approach. Moreover, this report is written
from perspective of NHS leadership academy that evaluates leadership development programs. It
also highlights on the concept of leadership and management that demonstrates types of
leadership theories. The main motive to make this report is to develop the NHS development
programs by review of the leadership and management literature. It is also used by management
for evaluating development programme of leadership that is based on the various literatures
which are related with business management and leadership.
Leadership and management theories
Leadership is about generating long term results by comprehend and believe all persons to
accomplish organisational vision by motivating all individuals to perform work with more
efficiency (Bolden, 2016). Whereas, management refers to generate administering and making
sure that all activities are performed in organised and sequential manner. All operations and
functions which are completed by management of organisational and educational institutes are

depend on different concepts of leadership and management. According to Warren Bennis, 2015,
leaders perform an essential role in the organisation by considering and managing task for all
employees. Example- Leaders and top authorities help management to formulate and decide right
strategy that assist to deal with current challenges and issue. Along with this there are various
task and operations are performed by management such to develop and decide strategy for
performing organisational work in proper manner (Bolden, Gosling and O'Brien, 2014).
Concepts of the leadership define what services and products are offered by management. It also
undertakes methods and processes that is used to conduct business and complete of
organisational work.
Roles and relationship- Roles are the positions that are defined by an organisation to engage
individuals that defined them to perform organisational work as per decided organisational
behaviour. In the context of NHS leadership academy organisation is performing their work to
develop and maintain simple and great leadership development programs that improves
behaviour, skills and capabilities of employees. Culture and climate are two another forces that
distinct how to act in an organisation. Each organisation follows a different culture that works as
the combination of past and current leadership that defines events and manage all work as per
routines and rituals which are followed by company and implement in organisational operations
and functions.
According to Robert L. 2018, management defines as the process or art that leads management to
accomplish organisational goals by the help of others. There are various operations and task are
performed by management that is leading company to get achieve goals with more efficiency and
effectiveness. Process is the primary function and activity that leads management to perform and
get things in proper manner. Planning, organising, staffing, directing and controlling are key
aspects of management concept. Effectiveness is also concerned with end result that basically
helps the organisation for complete their work with in proper manner by completing all activities
in sequence that also relates with priority of functions (Dartey-Baah, 2015).
Theories of leadership- Transactional leadership is a style of leadership by which leaders
promotes compliance by different followers by completing work through influencing individuals
to perform their work in different manner. There are two different methods are utilised by leaders
which is rewards and punishment that leads transactional leaders to motivated them for a shorter
period. According to Sam Thomas. 2014, a transactional leader is an individuals who perform

their work with follow of value order and structure. This is used by management to perform all
work as per operations that are strict and arranged in proper manner. There are different
programs are managed by organisation with implement of right leadership and management
theories. Most of the educational institutions and global organisation are performing their work
at international level so it is mandatory to implement right leadership theory that leads
individuals to complete all task and operations as per stated objectives and goals (Declercq,
Fossorier and Biglieri, 2014). From the perspective of NHS leadership academy the purpose of
organisation is to work with all partners that delivers excellent leadership across all over the
world. The main purpose of NHS is to increase skill and capabilities of employees and programs
with direct approach. With the dynamic environment in among all over the organisation and
there changes it is mandatory for management to lead and develop positive program that consists
of generating better outcomes and experience which care better results. From the last several
research that are formed at the international level it is identified that global leadership determines
the real problem which is perceived with good quality of leaders. But specifically it also
determines some actual problems that most of the individuals thought that leaders are born
whereas, leaders are those individuals who learn skills and practice them on regular basis for
accomplishing organisational goals in decided time period. Further, the research also show that
there are various differences is considered in report that defines often transactional leadership is
compared with transformational leadership but they both are different from each other. In the
context of transactional leadership it is depend on self-motivated individuals that works in a
well-structured manner and generates a better environment in organisation. Moreover,
transactional leadership focuses on the results that conforms there are various structure are
followed by organisation that leads to complete all work as per organisation strategy. In the
context of NHS leadership academy transactional leadership concern that management focuses
on leadership and management efforts that show system of rewards and penalties. This refers that
transactional leaders holds the formal rights and authority to perform all work as per
organisational goals (Diánez-González and Camelo-Ordaz, 2016). Moreover, this types of
leaders are responsible to maintain routine through managing individual performance and also
facilitating group performance of organisation. Moreover, this type of leaders also decides and
set the criteria for the workers according to the decided requirements for the organisation.
Monitor and review are the most common ways that is used by management to evaluate the

performance of workers. Leaders and managers who follow transactional leadership style are
concerned towards performing organisational task as per identifying jobs needs and motivating
individuals to complete work by offering them rewards and punishment it is also beneficial for
the management to make the status that is leading company to work by formulating policies
according organisation work for maintaining better relations and results from all organisational
functions.
According to the Kendra Cherry, 2019 trait theory of leadership perform their task as per
assumption which demonstrate that leaders are born and due to this belief it is possess that there
are various qualities and traits relates with leadership which also identify various behavioural
characteristic that are followed by all types of leadership (Fought and Misawa, 2016). Further, it
is an early assumption which show and belief that leaders are only born. From the perspective of
academic theory trait theory is first theory of leadership that attempt to make good leaders.
Along with this trait theory is identified in 19th century by Thomas Carlyle that understands and
identifies parallel talent, characteristic and leaders who demonstrate similar power in
organisational goals. After identify of all traits it is compare with potential leaders and success.
The leadership style refers to completion of a program evaluates individuals strength and
weakness as it is related with motive of company goals. There are five other individuals also it
also relates with team and work areas that is related with leaders and analyse gap to understand
work on self-basis. Intelligence and action oriented judgement are the great leaders and smart
choices that moves individuals to make group forwards. Eagerness to accept responsibility
defines the leaders that takes responsibilities and pass work on others. It also show success to
owners for performing work in appropriate manner. Task competence is implemented by NHS
leadership academy to perform all work with utilisation of minimum resources and to gain
maximum productivity from them. The most benefit which is gained by management of NHS is
to complete all task and operations through performing and achieving better results as task
competence make a leader more successful and capable to complete task in proper manner.

management both are different from each other which also governs that roles and responsibilities
to achieve common goal is also different for management. On the other side, some similarities
are also present between them. Leadership and management both make decisions for middle and
lower levels departments. Along with this leaders and managers are the top authored persons
who controls and manages employees of the company by providing them instructions for
performing work as per organisation goals and objectives. Along with this the functions and
operations which are performed by management are considered for generating long term
benefits. Both of the organisation perform work as per strategy which helps to develop
extraordinary results by designing task that exists for longer period. Moreover, both leaders and
managers perform work for the support of NHS and its employees. Furthermore, both of the
concept are also different from each other that defines organisation is performing their work to
manage and design goals achieving process in different manner (Liljenberg, 2015). Managers are
the part of management that consists and accomplish goals with the motive of engaging more
number employees to complete work with the help of other persons. But leadership formulates
and leaders perform the task to enhance morale of employees in order to get more benefits from

organisational operations. Leaders are those persons which drive individuals to praise there work
but managers identify error and faults. The major difference between leader and manager is that
leaders are those individuals which are followed by more number of individuals as they influence
them (Liu, Wu and Goh, 2016). Managers are those persons of which all employees must obey
the their instructions as they are superior in authority so it is results that sometime manager face
challenges to complete work as per instructions.
Leadership development programme
Leadership development refers to the those activities which improves the skills, abilities,
potential and confidence of leaders for performing all work in effective manner. Programmes are
vary massively present in market that refers to complexity, style, cost and methods of teching
that improves performance for completing all work in proper manner. Along with this coaching
and mentoring are two different forms that lead activities for the organisation to perform and
develop all programmes with often different guide that develop leaders to perform all task in

determinants related with health. According to SBLF, 2015 leadership is an essential for all
organisation as it defines and make a straight line for organisation that complete all operations as
step by step. When the goals of organisation are delegated to individuals with in proper manner it
is identified that all task of company are designed to accomplish long term goals which is leading
management to decide an appropriate course of action for completing all work in proper manner.
There are various task performed by NHS Leadership academy that all are important to generates
long term and extraordinary benefits to management and its goals. Along with this it all are
beneficial for getting benefits that defines and highlight benefits of right development
programmes that demonstrate importance of programmes related with leadership training
(Mohelska and Sokolova, 2015). Like, effective leaders directly increases performance of
company to manage their large work by enhancing the morale of employees to complete all task
and operations with right strategy. Moreover, it is complex for organisation for an individual for

accomplish task as per leader because sometime it generates major problems for them to manage
and assume better leadership roles that ensure and implement right course of action by defining
clear pathways to take right managerial act and secondly it also helps the leaders to perform

individuals capabilities to work with more efficiency. Along with this all the clinical as well as
non-medical leaders are trained in this programs for aspire of large and complex programmes in
order to manage and implement right methods that provides better system for the development of
services and system. The period for Rosalind Franklin programme is of nine months and it is
mandatory for participants to spend more than five hours for an overall week. In the context of

the organisation may get various benefits which may resultantly provide them better recognition
in their business. For instance employees of NHS are having benefit to enhance their
productivity with the help of these programs as due to effective leadership the leader will be able
to understand characteristics of each and every employee, so this will lead them to work with
high efficiency. On the other hand leadership program is helpful to minimise employee turnover
within a business. As when employee are utilised as per their calibre and capacity so this will
provide them faith to their leader due to which turnover can be decreased. Further leadership
program are the way through which deserving leaders can be introduced which may tackle the
whole workforce in desired manner. So when employees are delegated their work and have
liberty to share their thoughts then this will obtain high level of employee engagement, this will
enhance their connection with the business due to which they will be giving high efficiency to
the business. So with the help of leadership programs employee of the organisation may have

appropriate environment to flourish and to render maximum output to their business (Taylor and
et. al., 2014).
Organisation benefits are also gained by management through NHS that are for Improving the
association's prosperity with members carrying quick positive and profitable changes to their
groups, administrations and administration clients in territories, for example, expanding staff

tasks can be delegated in an appropriate manner through which management can be made
effective within the organisation. Management within a business organisation is accountable to
establish communication between all the functional department and leadership is the way by
which all the departments can be managed. Whereas, when a leadership program is designed
then it can be implemented with the help of managerial personnel. With the help of management,
leadership programs are executed so as to gain results in a positive way. Further leadership
theories are adopted so as to assist the business and their workforce in a better way. Leadership
training programs are arranged in the organisation so as to provide assistance to the leader in
order to provide ways and tactics to lead the team which may be further help the business in
attaining their business goals. The leadership program is helpful for the individual and the
overall business as well. Through this program all the working personnel get assistance so as to
tackle the team and to take maximum output which is advantageous for the company.
Furthermore, leadership program is having vital role in the organisational success and overall

development of the people who are working inside the organisation. When an effective
leadership program is implemented then it is easy for the manger to track performance of each
and every individual so as to measure their contribution in organisational success and overall
development of the industry.
