INTRODUCTION
Organisational Behaviour can be defined as the study of the ways in which employees in
an organisation are acting on. The main purpose of analysing the behaviour of employees is to
make the operations of the business more effective by making improvement in the working of
employees. The objective of organisational behaviour is to revitalise the organisational theory as
well as develop better conceptualisation of an organisational life. In this assignment, the
discussion will be made about the skills and competencies required to be a business leader which
will help an organisation in overcoming various challenges faced by them at the time of carrying
out the operations of an organisation.
MAIN BODY
Leadership concept
Leadership refers to an ability of a person or group of people to guide or influence team
members in an organisation (Arnold, Fletcher and Daniels, 2017). It is a process through which
an executive can guide, influence and direct behaviour of other people towards attaining
particular objectives of given condition. It is an ability of leader to induce subordinates to work
in a zeal and confidence. In business, leadership is capacity of firm's management to set as well
as attain the challenging objectives, motivate others, outperform competition and take the fast
decision. The leader provides proper guidance and right direction to all the team members. It is
something that a person gives to group in order to meet with certain requirements. Leadership is
most necessary concept in an area of organisational behaviour. It is process of directing
behaviour of the other people towards accomplishing common objectives. The leadership
develop zeal and confidence between people and develop an urge in them to led. In addition to
this, leaders are needed to develop the better future vision and motivate organisational members
to attain visions. The leadership needs person to possess main key traits for an instance strong
communication skills, Empathy, charisma etc.
Challenges faced by leaders and skills to overcome from them
Successful business have leaders which excel at the guiding staff members, developing
skills and being consistent voice of a reason. In this, leadership entails entails responsibility, with
variety of the common challenges which are related with leadership role. So, leaders can be
respond to several challenges with effective foresight as well as handing situations. Leadership is

challenging job because leader gives direction to team members to work systematic. They are
successful when staff look up to them and also treat with them as role models (Burnes, Hughes
and By, 2018). There are some challenges and skills to overcome from them mention below:
Lack of Communication: Communication is one of the effective way to develop
relationship with employees. As new leaders, people may find it complex to communicate
openly with their team members regarding their expectation or bring problem which are
encountering. Hence, it is necessary to keep the better communication and open with everyone
otherwise it will develop the negative impact on team members. If the leader will not
communicate with team in a proper manner then in this case, employees will be demotivate and
will not give their better contribution in attaining the set objectives.
Skill to Overcome- Communication skill is an effective way to overcome from this kind
of challenge. It is an ability to convey information to other in an efficient and effective manner.
It is necessary for a leader to develop its communication skills and also conduct recognition
programs. On the other hand, leader should assure that what is available for team members and
support to them when required.
Over control- In this, most of the leaders lack ability to delegate in an effective manner.
It develops culture of micromanagement that strangle an independent thinking, leaves leader
focused in short- term and crushes creativity. On the other hand, they may practising the small
picture thinking as their firm's though leaders.
Skill to Overcome- Delegation is powerful competency that permit to get positive
outcomes, develop people, leading better success, manage time etc. It is necessary that leader
should delegate its authority to a team member that is capable and better performer. It is helpful
in enhance morale to employees and they will perform in better manner. This skills serving as
link among managing and leading. It distribute as well as allocate the equitable accountability
and responsibilities of team.
Inspiring others- It is challenge related to motivating and inspiring the others in order to
assure that they are satisfied with jobs and work in a smart manner. In an organisation, most of
the employees are not satisfied from their job and leader does not motivate them and give their
support. It demoralize them and develop the negative impact on their productivity level.
Skill to Overcome- For overcome with this challenge, motivation skill is required in a
leader. It is explained as actions that elicit desired behaviour through stakeholder. It is necessary

that leadership should have an ability to increase morale of employees and provide them the right
direction so that they can work in an effective or better manner. On the other hand, motivation
helps in maintain corporation of team member while allowing flexibility to be tackle the
motivational issues (Buschmeyer, Schuh and Wentzel, 2016).
Leading a team- It is a main challenge of team development, team management and
team building. Under this, particular challenges consists how to instill pride, lead big team,
provide the support etc.
Skill to Overcome- For overcome with this arisen challenge, leader should have the team
building skills. There is a need to cooperate and collaborate with the team members, open to talk
with them, applying feedback and listen their ideas. Team building and team leadership both are
helpful in coordinating with the all team members. Through this, they are able to work in a team
in a better or effective way. Develop a good team helps in enhance performance and productivity
level of company. With the help of team development skill, leader bring all team members
together and give them common task, so that they can work together without arising the conflict.
Effective Decision Making: It is considered as one of the biggest challenge as many a
times, organisations are not able to make a decision effectively and efficiently because proper
time is not allotted and it needs immediate decision. So, many a times, it has been noted that this
impromptu decisions has lead to many failures and losses. This skills and competency has been
given very important because it helps in knowing how an organisation performs when any
pressure is extracted on them.
Skill to Overcome: To overcome this barrier, it is necessary that leader knows all the
aspects of the problem that occurred in their way (Geppert, 2017). It also helps in assisting the
various other insights of the problem by giving an overview. It will give the leader a strength to
assist the problem effectively and efficiently.
Uncertainty: It is one of the most common problem that every organisation encounter
everyday in their workings. It makes them encounter with huge losses and many failures that will
stop the flow of success of an organisation. So, it is very necessary for an organisation to have an
effective flow to understand how the market works and what is patterned that is followed here.
Skill to overcome: The skill that will help the leader to overcome the problem here is that
the leader needs to have a full knowledge regarding the industry in which the organisation is

working and what are the problems that can come in their way that can hinder the growth of the
firm as well as limit the flow of development.
Resource Management: It refers to the way an organisation handle the resources
available to them and whether they are making good of it not as these resources available may
have excessive uses but are limited due to increasing problems and the government interference
in this matter. This resources includes raw materials, human resources, equipments, machinery,
money etc. So, an organisation needs to set up a channel where they can effectively see where
they are spending their resources or either they are making most of it or not.
Skill to Overcome: The skill of an leader that will be helpful to overcome this issue to an
organisation is introduction and study of resources available. A leader or a manager hired by an
organisation needs to assure that leader have proper knowledge of the subject they are working
with, have right set of skills and competencies and at the same time should be capable to provide
new and innovative set of solutions to the problem occurred (Goh and Marimuthu, 2016).
Same Set of Work: It is very crucial for an organisation to bring new and innovative
ideas that will give them an edge over their competitors. It is very necessary to bring new and
unique products that will not attract customers as well as increase the market share of the
customers. It is important to do that because as the world is changing, customers as well want
new and creative solutions to the same problem. '
Skill to Overcome: The skill possessed by the leader here is to assure that the leader
brings out creativity and innovation in the organisation so that organisation carry out some new
functions in the company that will give them an edge in the market. It is necessary to do that
because of new and young generation does not want to use decade old products and it is the role
of leader to do that.
Handling the Different Minds: An organisation have multiple people and have plenty of
employees working simultaneously with one another. It may give rise to variety of problems and
conflicts because of disbursements of different minds together. It may stop the proper flow of
communication that is followed in the organisation and may hinder the growth of organisation.
Skill to Overcome: The skill that will help the leader over here is to assure that the
employees are motivated enough here so that if any conflict takes place then, it is taken
positively by the employees rather than negatively. Leader should assure that the skills and
abilities of an employee are taken into consideration before allotting them any sort of work as

leader should give work which will enhance the growth and development of employees (Laforet,
2016).
CONCLUSION
From the above assignment it has been concluded that leadership is an essential skills
needed for the completing the operations and tasks of a business successfully and in the right
way. In addition to this, it is also concluded that overcoming the barriers which the leaders
comes across while working with their followers. The leader must know about the skills needed
to influence best the followers so that the best work could be acquired from them.
Reflection
The following is the reflection of my own experience which I came across during the
project provided to me on Leadership. The project was about the necessary skills and
competencies required in order to overcome the challenges which are faced by the leaders at the
time they are handling their followers in an organisation. The project was allotted to me by my
teacher and the project was to be completed individually. The complete work of the project was
completed by me. I was supposed to do all the related tasks which were required in order to
complete the project such as collecting the needed information about the project, gathering the
most appropriate information out of all the data collected, writing the content and also checking
it so that the errors and omissions could be avoided and the work could be completed in the best
form. The whole work was so complex to do as I did not come across ever with this kind of any
work. So it was a new experience for me. The whole of the work was completed by me and the
result of the work done by me brought good and positive results.
This project helped me in establishment of analysing various elements that will help me
in improving my leadership style. It helped me in getting this huge project which analysis will
help me in guiding my future prospects. When I was undertaking this project it started with lots
of issues as I was not understanding what I was doing or what aspects of this is crucial for me to
understand this project effectively and efficiently. And, when this project was over I could make
out that this project helped me in my overall growth as I could see some positive changes in me
through this. And, now when I am standing here and see from where I have come from, it
suggests that this growth played a crucial role in establishment and improvement of my overall
personality. I got many positive comments from all my surrounding and people near me as they

could see how improve I have become as a person and what changes this project gave me. At
that time, when I was doing this project, my friends and family could see how stressed and
troubled I was but now when this project is over they have many positive remarks for me as I
have grown as a person now.
During the whole course of work, the best part was about the knowledge about the
leadership, skills and competencies needed and about the way of making projects which I got and
came across while I was preparing the project. All my perceptions, myths and doubts got cleared
when I was doing this project because I did a lot of research to find out the most appropriate data
so that I could finish the project in good way and score good marks. It was so because from my
point of view, the topic was very interesting and I enjoyed a lot while going through this project.
In addition to this, it was also good because the project was made on Word Document so it also
improved my knowledge about the use of computer also. With the positive experiences I also do
come across some negative ones also. The negative experiences were because of lack of
knowledge about acquiring data from other resources such as Internet or books. The reason why
I faced this experience is because I did not did these kind of projects or work before. This has
made some delay in the completion of the project due to which the work become complicated to
complete. The whole was work was completed by me so it was important for me to speed up the
work which make me to work extra in nights also to make the completion of the work on time.
So the whole of the contribution in completing the work was made by me. However I got support
from my family and parents who helped me in completing the work by clearing my doubts as I
was not known with the ways of acquiring data so one of my friends helped me in this work
which has not only made me able to complete the work on time but also increased my skills and
capabilities regarding this work.
It also enhanced my knowledge to much extent. Likewise my family also helped a lot to
me in completing this project, the knowledge about how to make project on computer system
was provided to me by my parents. In this way the bad experiences which I came across during
the whole course of work were eliminated with the help of friends and family. For the following
situation I learnt a lot of things such as theoretical knowledge about the leadership, leadership
skills, the barriers which could be faced by leaders while handling the employees of an
organisation and also about the skills and competencies needed to make overcome those barriers.
From my mistakes I also learnt that knowledge is very important to have. It does not mean

whether it is of your work or not. Knowledge will help you some day as I already got an
opportunity to know about the use of computer system but I did not and faced problem this time.
If I had took knowledge about the use of computer system at that time than this time I will not
face any difficulty in using it and will be able to complete the work smoothly not in a hurry way.
In future, if ever I will be provided with this kind of project I will make sure to complete
the project on time and remove all those difficulties which I faced earlier during the completion
of this project. There are also some skills which are important to develop for me in case I will be
provided with this kind of project in future such as time management skills, proper
communication skills. These skills will help me in completing the work timely and in a smooth
way.
