2ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR Briefly introduce the aspect of the group work experience that you want to reflect on (this shouldalsoincludeyourthoughts,emotions,and/orassumptionsthataffectedyour participation in the group). Choose a situation that is meaningful to you in terms of development of your group work or leadership skills. I think that working in a group has really been very helpful to me. This has taught me to develop a feeling of cooperation and trust among one another. I was doing an internship in a company. I was assigned with a role of delivering a presentation as part of one group assignment. Earlier I was very hesitant is speaking with people. I feared that I might fumble in front of them and this will be a huge problem for my reputation. As expected, I was very nervous while doing speaking and I as fumbling a lot. I was suffering from the fear of public speaking and could not communicate properly. I was very restless and was about to break down but my team members really supported me a lot. This group work has really been very useful to me. I could work a lot on my communication skills. After being appointed in the group, I was unable to understand the work properly and often had some doubts. However I was not very affluent in communication and so I could not approach anyone or clear my doubts. This was having a bad impact on my overall performance. However I saw that all my co workers started supporting me and they approached me every single day. They encouraged me to open up with them and clear all my doubts. I also noticed that our team leader was very supportive and sympathetic towards me. He took up the pains of conducting regular sessions and asking me about the issues that I was facing at work. He arranged for special training sessions for solving my problem. As a team leader he made sure that all his team mates are working together and are supporting each other in their hours of need.
3ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR Explorethechosensituationindepthbyanalysingitandusing4relevantOB concepts/theories from Topic 6. Team spirit is one of the major aspects of working in a group. There are also many important theories of organizational behavior that must be incorporated within the organization. After joining this organization I was really feeling hesitant and uncomfortable. I did not really findanyemployeescomingandspeakingwithme.Thiswasperhapsduetothe theoryofproximity. As I was new to this organization there was a communication gap among all the co workers. They did not feel it comfortable in coming and speaking with me. Moreover I was also keeping a closed approach and was not opening up. The social exchange theory has been helpful in my case. I saw that the managers and the leaders are unbiased and they follow the process of rewarding their employees in an impartial manner. This has really been very helpful for me. I realized that feeling of belongingness. This helped me to come out of my shell and start interacting with all my colleagues and the managers as well. I have also seen that the managers always follow the Tuckman’s OB theory. They follow the forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning stages for making their employees work together in the organization. Explain what you have learned about yourself and the Topic 6 as a result of this reflection exercise. I have learned that not every group can be a team. A team is one where the employees act as complimentary factors of one another. In other words, they are ready to support each other and cooperate with each other at every point of time. For an instance, I was of a very introvert nature and had many communication issues. The managers made all other co workers interact with me
4ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR and also motivated me to a great extent. It is through this team that I have been able to work over my communication skills and this will also help me a lot in future. A team is one where the members hold each other mutually accountable for the performance. The managers and the leaders make sure that the team mates are working with a joint and collaborative effort rather than focusing only on their personal individualistic goals. Tea, cohesiveness is one of the major aspect of a well organized idea team. I have learned that accountability is responsibility towards one’s team role forms the key factor for the overall success of the team.
