International policy to overcome GGE from transport service of tourism
Tourism industry is a part of economy and every country focus on the tourism industry to
grow their economy. It is based on the domestic and international level tourism. Greenhouse
gases emission is too high as per the standard of different rules and regulation. It is a way to
reduces greenhouse gases emission though changes in the processes of travelling and hospitality.
Tourism industry is responsible for emission of carbon dioxide. It produces 20 percent of whole
world carbon dioxide gas emission (Weaver, 2011). In this report, it will explain about the policy
of Greenhouse Gases Emission (GGE) from transportation services of tourism.
On the basis of case studies of New Zealand and Fiji. There are few areas of concern,
which are relating to climate change (Becken & Clapcott, 2011). UNWTO is working on various
agreements and policies between tourism industry and governments of different nations. It is not
a simple thing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, UNWTO is started different
policies for tourism industry to overcome the emission of greenhouse gases. Carbon dioxide is a
main reason, which impact on the environment and result of this is climate changes. It is
necessary to handle the entire things on individual level (UNWTO, 2019).
International organizations have started agreements to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,
such as The Paris Agreement. In 1990, industries were produced a huge greenhouse gases from
their production and other services. Based on the scientific data, global warming in increasing
because of greenhouse gases emission. Kyoto Protocol is playing a better role to control
emission of greenhouse gases (Jayawardena, Pollard, Chort, Choi, & Kibicho, 2013).
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is working with different
governments of many countries to reduce greenhouse gases emission. Many agreements are
signed by different industries to overcome the greenhouse gas emissions (Dodo, 2014).
In 2007, second international conference on climate change and tourism has held to
overcome the effects of greenhouse gas emissions on climate. In UK, Tourism Ministerial
Summit (TMS) has held to create new policies and regulation on the tourism industry to
overcome their emission of carbon dioxide (Dodo, 2014).

Tourism sector can adapt these things to overcome the effects of climate change. It is a
way to modified many services of the tourism and reduce unnecessary emission of greenhouse
gas emissions (Ooi & Laing, 2010).
There are few things, which must consider by tourism industry.
1. Change of operating patterns of the tourism industry, such as travel though those
vehicles, which are having low carbon dioxide emission.
2. Adaptation of tourist destinations can reduce unnecessary pollution.
3. Tourism industry can mitigate global warming issue though carbon friendly
technologies.
The transportation sector generates 7.5 billion tons of carbon dioxide emission in 2014.
Based on calculation, it expected to grow to more than 9 billion tons of carbon dioxide by 2050.
Therefore, it is necessary to reduce travelling rate of tourist, as it is increases more than 60
percent in between 2010 to 2050. It has expected that tourism sector policies can contribute at
least seven percent of the reductions of greenhouse gases emissions ( Marcacci, 2018).
It is necessary to create new policies for the reduction of greenhouse gases emission at
international level. China is having a huge part of that emission. Therefore, they should strict on
the emission of greenhouse gases from different industries and uses renewable energy sources to
safe environment ( Petersen, 2019).
In conclusion, tourism industry should follow policies of international standards and
maintain different standards of greenhouse gases emission, which are provided by international
and national governments. It will influence the global warming as well as climate change issue.
However, tourism is increasing day-by-day, still using latest technology in transportation and
hospitality. They can reduce ratio of greenhouse gases emission.
