PALM OIL CASE
SWOT Analysis
The business case is on palm oil as in the year 2014, there were four
large pal oil traders who signed together an agreement to stop the
deforestation, to develop the peatland and to eradicate the land abuse from
the local operations as well as from the suppliers. However, in the year 2015,
the scenario has been reversed and the government of Indonesia had sent
orders to companies to withdraw their plan of 2014, as the government is
planning to clear the land for plantation and oil palm dealers should set the
rainforests and the peat lands on fire (Offermans and Glasbergen 2015).
Following is the brief discussion on the SWOT Analysis based on the
Business Model Canvas template discussing the nine elements on the basis
of the palm oil business case. This is an effective model used for planning
any business case as it is the concrete foundation that supports four
significant elements of an organization, like, point of value proposition,
Customer base, Infrastructural development, and Financial aspects (Marlieret al. 2015).
Element 1. Key Partners
To provide with the SWOT Analysis of the first element, which is the
key partners of the business case that includes all the external stakeholders
supporting the business and great impact on the running of the business. To
proceed with the strengths, the government has provided a support to the
business for which it has tremendously grown and has showed its
performance in the market. Governmental officials showed sensitized efforts
to the concerns of the environment. The weaknesses include points such as,
the business although is an independent entity but has not so popular
branches in the palm oil industry market or is possible to say that Indonesia
is a the newly diversifying into the business of palm oil since 2006, therefore
it has not developed the stakeholders prominence to that extent. The threat
to this industry is that previously established business firms. The opportunity
is to focus on the changing demands and new suppliers orders.
