ABSTRACT
This study is done to acquire knowledge about understanding the perceptions and
experiences on public healthcare services among elderly adults in Myanmar. These days, there
are much perceptions and experiences takes place within public healthcare services among
elderly adults in Myanmar, where this topic is concurrent and relevant within current situation
and environment, hence it is easy to collect information about it. This investigation is based on
Myanmar's elderly individuals who basically goes through different range of health related,
psycho-social and some of the other types of problems are faced by them. Primary data
collection tool is said to be the crucial source, which has been considered by researcher to collect
data information and this where interview is specifically being utilised by researcher. 4 random
participants has been taken into consideration, who will be providing proper knowledge in
relation with the questions that will be asked by researcher. With the help of this study, it is
evaluated that there is a high need of taking right decisions in relation with elderly individuals
because then only perceptions and experiences on public healthcare services can be improved at
Myanmar.

TOPIC- Perception and experiences on public healthcare services among
elderly adults in Myanmar
INTRODUCTION
Over the years, it has been observed that elderly individuals majorly goes through a range
of problems and these are economic related problems, health-related problems, elder abuse and
psychosocial problems. Economic issues takes place at the time when old aged individuals
becomes unable to perform work and start depending on their families. Including this,
psychological related problems are being faced by elderly individuals due to generation gap
(specifically young generation). This major problem, which has been identified is directly linking
with retirement idleness because it makes individuals believe that they are not physically
productive, which impacts on both mental and physical stability. Myanmar's elderly adults are
also going through the same sort of health and other related problems, which raised burden on
the health care takers and family members (Hashmi and et. al., 2018).
It has also been found that, elderly needs medical care are said to be the crucial ones than
financial support. However, some of the other individuals has given their answer towards elders
where they have mentioned that counselling is another crucial element which is needed to be
conducted to resolve problems faced by elderly individuals. This is considered to be a crucial
social work intervention which will help elderly aged individuals to help themselves to improve
their psychological, economic and physical status. Also, it will lead public healthcare services to
improve their experiences and perceptions in much more positive ways (Truman and et. al.,
2020).
Background of the qualitative research
Most of Myanmar elderly are more dependent on their spouses for the maintenance of the
family. Therefore, majority of the elderly would prefer to stay with their spouse (Khaing, 2018).
Only a very few are staying with other ability due to some reasons like negligence by son or
daughter, due to being widower/widow and also due to conflict with daughter in law or son and
some have accepted that an arrangement due to some social and practical problems involved
staying alone. This has resulted into rise in number of problems for elderly individuals linking
with different factors like health, elder abuse, mental stability, psycho-social needs and so on
(Phanwichatkul and et. al., 2019).
