1 INTRODUCTION TO NURSING, MIDWIFE AND PERSON-CENTERED CARE Person-centered care Person centered care refers to type of response given by health professional to their patients which employs love, trust, and respect. It is imperative to know the personal health issue in addition to their individuality and personal life. Hence, health care professional should be knowledgeable and expert in communication with other people. Every such interaction are shadowed with concept of partnership and social justice. Therefore, it creates equal opportunity for people to follow their own healthcare decision and responsibility. Person-centered care boost collaboration,soclinicianshouldinternalizethisconceptintheirpractice.Hence,every professional need to be open-minded, responsible, motivated and answerable. Barrier to person centered care There are few constrictions in this concept, which says it is time-taking and too unusual. The principle is also optimistic because large organization environment is complex, thus making application of such principle practically challenging. Therapeutic relationship and communication Therapeutic relationship develops when bonding between care-taker (nurse, midwives) and the person cared for is employed to encourage their wellness and good health. Relationship depends on good communication between professionals and patients and their families because without knowing the patient's situation, it is hard to recognize their problems. For making plan for person-centered care, it is vital to hear patient’s view, narrate the plan strategy to them and ponder upon their feedback. This is done with motive to ensure that strategy is best for them and their family members.
2 INTRODUCTION TO NURSING, MIDWIFE AND PERSON-CENTERED CARE This relationship develops with the purpose of health professional to help people to encounter their needs concerning their problems. However, sometimes it gets miscarried because they fail to build understanding among them. Though social relationship and person-centered relationship are similar in some aspect like love and care. However, their concept is different. It arises for a particular purpose with specificpersonandinformationsharedisformal.Thus,barrierbetweentwoshouldbe maintained by nurses and midwives. Patients safety and communication Physical, psychological, emotional and cultural security of patients is maintained by the organization, and in case of any injustice and harm, actions are taken to contradict it which is known as patient’s safety. It is an image of trustworthy relationship that aims to increase the incidence of recovery and decrease adverse effect. However, this is the most problematic issue being faced by professionals, so they should improve their communication skill to manage it. Communication being effective way to share own feeling. However, for professional it is not only relevant to give information about their health, but it also includes listening to patient’s views. Australian charter of healthcare rights says in relation to communication and partnership with patients. Thus, it is an essential tool in healthcare. The result shown by patients through effective communication are as follows Low level of stress and anxiety Self and pain management get improved Long stay in hospitals decreases Patients become satisfied with the treatment.
