Learning from others: Taking guidance from seniors, mentors or coaching from them
can improve an individual's skills and knowledge. For example, improving my communication
skills, I take help from my seniors and for getting better at public speaking, I can attend courses

TASK 3
3.1 Discussing the process and activities of implementing the development plan
For implementing development plan, following activities are undertaken that are
discussed below:
ď‚· Tutorials: Online tutorials, tuition received from university or college is one of the ways
of building and polishing the required skills for career and personal development. This
activity will help me in developing my decision-making skill and conflict resolution skill.
ď‚· Mentoring: Receiving mentoring from seniors in the organisation and experienced
people in the social networks would help in developing my core needs (MacLennan,
2017). This strategy is useful as experienced people share their learnings and experiences,
they had in their lives from which meaningful information could be drawn out. Applying
this strategy will enhance my conflict resolving and customer handling skills.
ď‚· Observation: Learning by observing others is an efficient way of self-managed learning.
Observing seniors in Travelodge, peers, colleagues, friends and family members about
how they conduct their activities, how they deal different situations in life. This
observing strategy helps in increasing knowledge regarding personal and professional
matters which impacts the overall development of a person. Observing seniors,
experienced people in surrounding and learning by them seeing them regarding how they
deal with challenging situations can help in improving conflict resolving, decision
making and customer handling skills.
3.2 Undertaking and documenting development activities
For developing the plan, following activities were undertaken:
ď‚· Identification of development needs: After analysing the skills required such as conflict
resolution, decision making skills and customer handling skills for becoming successful
and efficient assistant manager in Travelodge, I identified my development needs through
assessing my existing skills and matching it with requirements of the company.
ď‚· Prioritize the skills: The needs will be prioritized on the basis of my aim of becoming a
manager in Travelodge. For instance, I prioritize my decision making which is core

ability required by company for job role of manager. This prioritization of skills helps in
focusing on core areas that needs to be developed for achieving the set goals.
ď‚· Strategies for developing the skills: Various activities were undertaken for achieving
the target such as receiving mentoring from experienced people, guidance from seniors,
online tutorials, observing others, etc.
ď‚· Feedbacks: Taking feedbacks and reviews from colleagues, seniors, mentors, peers,
members from social networks helped in understanding improvement. People noticed
improvement in my personality regarding handling of conflicting situations, confidently
speaking in public. However, they were of the opinion that more work on decision
making skills is required. Taking these feedbacks and suggestions seriously and
moulding the plan would help in successfully developing the needs.
ď‚· Updating plan: The plan was modified after taking feedbacks from the people in the
surrounding and acting upon it for achieving the target of enhancing the skills required by
the company for the job role of manager.
3.3 Critical reflection of own learning against aims and objectives set in development plan
I set the aim of developing my conflict resolution, decision making skills, customer
handling skills in the personal and professional development plan. For achieving the goals, I
undertook several activities such as mentoring, guidance from seniors, attending trainings,
seminars.
I observed people and took guidance from seniors regarding the matter of solving
conflict situations. From this, my conflict resolution skill has developed. I tried to effectively
respond to the mixed feedbacks I got from people in my surroundings. To some extent, I have
been able to justify the development plan but there are some problems in exactly meeting my aim
of developing my decision-making skills. Learning of statistical models, application of these
complex models while forming out the probability of making rational decisions is posing
difficulties for me in achieving my set objectives in the development plan. Also, my customer
handling skills needs to be improved for becoming a deserving candidate for the role of manager
in Travelodge.

Time management is the systematic approach of managing time between several specific
work (Grissom, Loeb and Mitani, 2015). There are some strategies that need to be Travelodge
for retaining its employees which are given below:
Setting goals: As an assistant manager in the company, I daily set my clear-cut goals
which specifies that what I want to achieve and in what time. Working as per defined goals will
improve staff productivity as it will provide clear view and roadmap for work.
Prioritizing work and creating a checklist of activities: I focus on prioritizing my work.
It makes me to focus on more high value activities. I also prepare a checklist of the activities that
I have to perform. This helps me in avoiding repetition or omission of work. It also helps me in
meeting my deadlines (Cloutier and et.al., 2015.). Elimination of duplication of work will make
employees in Travelodge burden free which in return would help company in retaining,
improving and meeting their working desires
Staying away from distractions: Being an assistant manager, I stay away from all the
interrupting elements. This helps me in performing my duties on time, avoiding the chance of
being overloaded with previous work. A healthy and stress-free environment would be created if
all employees in company follow this strategy. This will help them to focus more and their desire

of being in organisation will be build. A healthy working environment also helps in serving
customers as per their needs.
Reviewing self-performance: Assessing daily work will help me in knowing where and
why I am lagging behind. Based on the reasons, I try to stay away from disruptions which helps
me in performing my tasks on time. Self-evaluation makes a person more competent which drive
him to correct his mistakes and perform better. This establish desire of being in Travelodge. It
helps in enhancing the performances. Better performance means better fulfilment of customers’
requirements.
If all employees in Travelodge try to apply these strategies in their working lives, they
will be able to manage their time more effectively. This will make them efficient and more
satisfied with their job. Altogether, it will have the benefit of employee retention and excellent
customer care services for the company (Aguenza and Som, 2018).
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it can be summarised that self-managed learning is the pre-
requisite for personal and professional development. Self-learning develops and improves a
person's knowledge, skills and abilities. The report further concluded that for being a manager in
Travelodge I need to develop skills like public speaking, conflict resolution skills, decision
making and customer handling skills. All these are highlighted as my weaknesses which could be
overcome by applying different strategies such as mentoring, reading online tutorials, attending
seminars, training sessions etc.
The last segment of project concluded that for retaining employees and for enhancing
customer care, time management strategies such as setting goals, giving focus to high value tasks
can help employee in avoiding overload of work, felling relaxed at workplace and performing
