INTRODUCTION
Professional development refers to gaining of knowledge and skills for personal
development and career advancement opportunities for future goal of an individual. It is one of
the most formal way by which an individual can set strategies for outcome of their learning and
training and development session. Its also help in improving job performance of employees and
staff members within an organisation by assigning them duties as per their knowledge and skills.
In this report organisation chosen is Travelodge. It is operated by independent companies who
have no connection with brand in other countries. This report is going to analysis different
approaches which are useful in managing and self learning process for life long development of
an individual. Eventually,evaluating current skills and competencies against professional
standards. Moreover, it also determines professional development portfolio such as its process
and activities that are essential in implementation of development plan.

1.1 Evaluating approaches to self-managed learning
In today's context self learning is a continuous process in which an individual take
initiative in order to formulate effective learning strategies to enhance and self development
skills. Herein, there are many approaches through which an individual can set out their goals and
objectives for effective planning and learning process to achieve their targets.
Seminars and conferences: Seminars and conferences are one of the most effective tool
that help an individual in self-managed learning process. It provides opportunities to both
employee and individual to learn new and different ideas, gain knowledge and develop their
skills. Moreover, it also make employees to share their ideas and experience which leads to
create dynamic business environment and also allows them to improve their presentation and
communication skills. Thus, this type of learning is beneficial for both organisation and
individual in caring out their task in an effective manner.
Social networks: Social network have created its importance in self managed learning
process. Their are various social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and many
other which help an individual in gaining knowledge from different websites. Moreover, it will
help both individual and employees in improving their communication skills, enhancements in
performance which help in success of an individual.

long and systematic process to develop and enhance skills and abilities of an individual.
