INTRODUCTIONPersonal and Professional Development is a way by which an individual sets some goals,strategies and plans so that they may improve their skills from the learning and training. Theoutcomes of learning and training are also set up while making goals and plans. The mainpurpose of Personal and Professional Development is to enhance the current skills of anindividual so that it may help in future development and growth of a person. In addition,professional development introduces to the gaining of skills and knowledge for careeradvancement and personal development. It covers all kinds of possible learning opportunitiesand meetings situated in practices (Agafonova, Bryukhova and Kaigorodov, 2015). For thisreport, “Travelodge Hotel” is given private organization operating in the hospitality sectorthroughout the UK. Main purpose of this report is to help an individual become confident inhandling its own personal and professional skills and to attain career and personal goals. Thisreport divided into different section which includes effectiveness of self-managed learning inenhancing lifelong development of person. Along with this, personal skills audit anddevelopment plan of an individual is also cover in this project. At last, solution to work-basedproblem, communication style and time management strategies also follow in this study. For this,Instagram, Twitter, Facebook etc., are known as best platform and support a person in acquiringand managing own knowledge (Berragan, 2013). In regards of Travelodge Hotel, businessmanager suggest their workers to follow above all these sites and enhance their skills andknowledge in field of hospitality sector. This approach also help the workers of hotel to dealwith complex situation in an easy manner. For example: employee of such hotel can also learnhow Mark Zuckerberg (Social network Owner) became successful; and following theinformation or data that they obtain. As workers can apply such knowledge or experience totheir own lives thereby analysis the means of succeeding in their personal and careerdevelopment. Conferences and seminars: This is also introduce as an effective approach of increasinglearning and knowledge of employees in specific field. For this, Travelodge Hotel have toarrange a conferences and seminars, it will support an individual to enhance their learningability and achieve personal as well as professional goal within given period of time. Further,this assist employees to become more confident or positive in speaking in public. Use of internet: This is also refer as an effective approach used by the hotel managerwith the purpose of enhancing skills and knowledge of employees in specific areas. For this,manager suggest their workers to read different number of journals, articles, books related totheir job. As it help them to attain their professional and personal goal as well as enhancegrowth opportunity for career development (Busse, Aboneh and Tefera, 2014). Therefore, all these approaches are more suitable but Travelodge Hotel only suggest totheir workers to use internet because there are different information available on it about anyfield. As it also assist workers to gain their learning and understanding as well as achievepersonal and professional goal. 1.2 Various ways in which lifelong learning could be encouragedLifelong learning is the voluntary, self-motivated and ongoing which pursuit of knowledgeor skill for personal as well as professional reasons. Thus, it not only improve active citizenship,personal development and social inclusion, but also self-sustainability and employbility(DeGraaf and et. al., 2013). Some are determinedas under: Continuous professional development (CPD): It is refer as an effective way used by theworkforce of Travelodge hotel for continuous learning, enhancing skills and knowledge. Thisapproach also help the workers in identification of its strengths and weaknesses. This CPD ismore essential for individual to attain their personal and professional goal easily. Self-reflective or directed learning: It introduce of actions, opinion, judgment and personalknowings that will relate to professional development of workforce of Travelodge hotel. Thiswill also assist them to acquire new or unique things at workplace as well as also createpersonal ability by getting the responsibility and work allotted to them (Diale, Pillay andFritz,2014). In addition, this approach is used by them for studying and accepting entirechallenges without any support. Therefore, both approaches are essential for managers and employees of Travelodge hotelto enhance their lifelong learning and attain personal as well as professional goal. As a managerin the Travelodge Hotel I use different types of learning theory such as Kolb’s learning cycleand reflexive modernization theory. All these are highly essential and effective for my byincreasing my lifelong learning and also assist in achieving personal and professional goal ingiven time duration. 1.3 Benefits of self-managed learning to the individual and organization In self-managed learning workforce take the initiatives to handle and manage their learning.Such type of learning has different positive influences for organizations as well as employees.There are some benefits of self-managed learning to both individual and organization aredetermined as under: Benefits to Individual (Assistant Manager): There are some advantages of self-managedlearning to assistant manager of hotel which them in increasing conference level to adapt inkind of situation within an organization (Fechter, 2012). Self-managed learning help themanager to improve skills and knowledge about the business functions and activities inappropriate manner. Self-managed learning is effective and more essential for manager to learnand enhance presentation ability. As such type of learning is flexible, business manager becomemore comfortable or free to learn via self-managed learning. Benefits to Travelodge hotel: One of the most essential benefit and advantage of self-managed learning for company is that Travelodge hotel can decrease their costs of organizingformal learning program by inspiriting self-managed learning for workers (Floyd, 2012). It alsosupports employees to understand the values and culture of hotel in a short duration. As theycan be capable to apply all rules and regulations in proper manner, so organization is highlybenefited by having knowledgeable and disciplined workforce without learning program forthem. It also enhances the skills and knowledge of workers ultimately hotel are benefited asskilled or efficient workers help them in increasing profitability of them. There are differentbenefits of self-managed learning to the Travelodge hotel such as to retain employees long time,better level of customer services, reduction of recruitment cost and many other. All these areessential for the growth of hotel.
