INTRODUCTION
Personal and professional development is a process to manage relationship between
organisation and individual in terms of learning to meet the challenges and desire goals.
Professional development is all about to develop professional skills through various activities
such as- training, learning, etc. Travelodge is a private company operating in the hotel and
hospitality industry in UK. Company is expanding its business across the world. Company has
third biggest hotel chain in UK by number of bedrooms. This file discusses about the evaluation
of self managed learning of the staff of Travelodge company. Ways of life long learning in
personal and professional context could be encouraged by Travelodge. This file also evaluate the
benefits of self managed learning in assistant manager and Traverlodge. This file also identify
the needs of development and required activities and opportunity to meet current and future
needs. In addition, of these processes and activities required to implement the development plan.
This file also identified the document development activities. This file also discussed about the
variety of style and appropriate manner at various levels and use of effective time management
strategies(Olsen, 2015).

1.1 Evaluation of approaches to manage self learning
Self learning means educating oneself without any kind of help or guidance from any
other person. This means available resource are being used in order to expand the knowledge
without supervisor (Olsen, 2015).
It is a process which will help to and individual to take initiatives to do something new and
creative. This process of self evaluation also includes the improvement of an employee of
Travelodge through the approaches. All these approaches will help them to identify their
internal strength and weakness. Here, preference of the short-term goals is considered to be
most important thing. Preference is just in the term of what is necessary to be executed at initial
stage. Following are the approaches that are necessary: -
Internet: - it is a source of connection of all computer to a central network. It is a global system
which helps to create a network with the help of TCP/IP protocol. This is very important tool
which plays a very crucial role in the self-learning of an employee. Through internet an
employee of Travelodge, can develop his professional skills. Employee of Trvelodge can
develop his Knowledge through suffering various websites that are giving training to an
employee in the term of maintaining the staff members and the possible risk that can take place
in the enterprise at any time (Kroll and Dussias, 2017).
Social group: - these groups defined as when two or more than two individuals comes togethere
and influence one another the can be called as social group. There are many networking sites
which are available to an employee as a source of help. Ethical sites such as - ; YouTube;
Facebook; LinkedIn Twitter and many others sites are providing a platform where, and
employee can experience through various different personalities which belongs to business
group. It is very essential in the self managed learning for gathering knowledge through various
sources. This platform will help to connect with the experienced personalities of corporate
sector. And individual can interact and involve with many personalities and he can increase his
knowledge by working with them.
Coaching- coaching classes are extremely effective way to enhance the skills of self
management. It is a part of long term process that prepares employees to think
eventually for themselves which is based on what he has learned.

for intellectual, physical and emotional success of occupation. Life Long Learning can be
pleased in many ways in the individual and professional context. This type of learning at
Travelodge, is advantageous for the entire life of an employee. This learning has very essential
role in making an employee fully self-reliant. The process of lifelong learning is very bendable
and plays a very crucial role at several levels and at different time frame. The worth of this
learning period deviated from the childhood to become an adult. Following are the structure:-
Internet:- It is considered as the best beginning of learning in the enterprise. Taking the
assistance of internet can learn a lot from the web. It would be facilitative for the
employee working over there to learn new method and techniques of practical work
effectively in a good manner. It considers:- self directed learning. With the help of
internet an employee can get the knowledge about various fields in travelodge. It will be
also helpful to increase knowledge. Credit Increment And Transfer Schemes:- it is a process of collection of credit for
learning towards an education. Life long learning can be gained by collect credit in the
function of assistant manager of Travelodge. These acknowledgements or achievements
can be facilitative in the constant development in job.
Observation:- By being an administrator at Travelodge, its very essential for an employee
working as a manager that he find very keenly to the whole operative process of an
employee in the enterprise. He feels needful to divide the work in different manner

to develop in the hotel industry. Travelodge became the first company in United Kingdom to
open the skill academy training centre for hospitality industry. The person who want to develop
their skills which match to the hospitality industry, can learn from the Travelodge. It became the
first company 2010. Travelodge hotels supports their employees by providing a full training and
development programs and a large range of diplomas such as diploma in team leading. Programs
are developed in various stages such as the discoverer, the traveller, the adventurer. As a
manager of company i developed the opportunities for the new employees by developing the
training sessions(.Macià and García, 2016). As a manager i will meet the needs and wants of the
employees on weekly bases and understand the skills which have to developed in them and try to
develop through training and development programs. Through this i will improve the areas such
as marketing skill, performance evaluation skill and resolving skill. These areas which have to
develop in me and also in other employees.

Know the goals of life- It is the first step of personal development plan in which it has to
know that what are the goals of life. The skills which have to develop, will meet with the future
goals. It has to understand that the goal of life considers the skill which have to developed.

Swot analysis- The second stage is swot analysis. It is the internal analysis of an
individual in which the weakness and strength of the person has to known because the whole
personal development plan depends on it(Knight, Iswanti and Murphey, 2018).
Understand what would be the best available option- In the third stage it has to known
that which is the best source which has to apply to develop the skills. It might be internet, books
and novels, feedback from peers etc.
Take action- The next stage is to take action in which the personal development plan
have to make with the time period. Know about the success criteria of the skills and

It is the another activity which have to done by an individual to make
efficient to communication skill. For development in communication
skill, it is necessary to develop relations with other person in the
organisation and try to communicate with them all the time so that the

Above activities helped me to develop my skills. I saw the online videos to learn
something about communication and presentation. I did not know few things such as how to
communicate in proper way with the upper level managers and i also did not know how to give
presentation. I learn many things from videos. Next thing is seminars, I also develop my
capabilities from seminars. Seminars gave me motivation which through i developed myself. The
result comes as i learned many things from this. From it but some skills which are not developed
in me till now just like time management skill, oral communication skill. I have to develop this

communication skill due to lack of interaction with other people. Moreover, I lack at oral
communication which is a weakness for me but with the help of this learning styles I am able to
achieve my aims and objectives effectively and efficiently. Also, I am not confident at specking
in group discussion but with the help of these activities I am able to speck in group and can
answer confidently in group discussions (Whitehall And et.al., 2018).
I made the personal development plan to develop my skills. It is important to develop the
skills in me to achieve the future goals. The skills like communication skill, presentation skill
which is planned for development. However on the critical note, I am not too good in
communication skill so I decided to develop these skills in me just because it is need to future
development.
I set the goals and objectives to develop the skills. I took help of the online videos which
is so helpful for me in my development plan because through the online videos I learned how to
stand and perform, in front of public. It is not easy for everyone to give presentational in front of
public(Perry, 2017). However, By using this learning style such as internet, videos etc. I have
developed my skills and knowledge of specking in public which is beneficial for my future
(Stebbins, 2017).
I am not good at listening properly due which many a time I skipped what people told me
and it is a big disadvantage for me and for my career (Cottrell, 2015). But, I learned from the
feedback of my peers. Sometimes they taught me the things which have to develop in me. I also
developed the listening skills in me because if anyone wants to being a good Lister and
communicator then they also have to develop the learning skills. I developed these core skills in
me and now i am good both in communication and presentation and these skills also developed
another skill in me such as problem-solving skill (Holt, 2016).
I set the time period for skill development and i learned maximum things in this time
period. Now I am capable to take decisions on my own bases and present my findings in front of
other managers. I also taught some things from them because they know very well how to
perform in a well manner. But on the other side, I was not able to develop my communication
skills in this and thus for developing my communication skills I require more time.

of the organisation. Manager has to solve the problems of employee in every aspect because it is
all about the overall productivity of the organisation.
Work based problems- In my organisation there is a problem regarding employee
turnover and customer care. Problem is raised regarding the inequality of salary due to the sales
target. Basically, who perform outstanding here he/she is rewarded by the organisation but for a
certain period there is lack of clearness regarding this issue. Another major problem is conflict
between employees and it is the common problem which is founded in every organisation.
Solution of the problem- It is important to solve the problem in organisation because
problem of the employees always create negative things for the organisation. For get rid of
employee turnover, organisation has to pay more attention on the employees and take care of
reward and incentives. Employee turnover can be decreased through reward system and
incentive system. For solve the problem of customer care the organisation has to build more
online services which through it is easy to develop the strategies for best customer service.
Another solution for employee retention is training and development. Through training and
development, the organisation can retain their employees. Another solution is employee
supervision, through supervise the employees the organisation can easily retain the employees in
effective manner. According to my opinion, The best solution of every problem is, divide the
employees into small groups. The groups are making up with 5 to 6 people.
Through this the collaboration and bonding between employees increased. Again,
supervisor of the team can help to define team's goal, identify problems and recommend
solution. Through diving the employees in small group, rewarding system, will be more defined
and more competitive. It will create more efficiency in the work because the situation of conflict
cannot arrive in the small groups and it also increases the work efficiency of the employees.
Through this the employee can self asses themselves and self-assessment is the best thing for
development of the employee. Self-managed learning promotes the employees for more
competition with the other groups of employees. As the result employees will be efficient,
cooperative and above all devoted to the work.
Communication is the process of transforming ideas, thoughts, feeling and emotions by
using the different channel of communication. Every person has own communication style which
used by them to communicate with other people. Communication style varies from individual to
individual. Communication is an important part of the organisation. It is important to

communicate with the other persons in effective way because everything depends on good
communication. There are some styles of communication and they are following-
The controller style- In this style the communicator wants facts. They are the person who believe
on task orientation. They have clear concept of goal and objectives. They are motivated and
dedicated to their tasks. They are very goal-oriented and determined to meet deadlines and
objectives. They make eye contact and are often seen as exhibiting an aggressive style and
emphatic behaviour. They are also sometimes seen as aggressive and bossy communicators in
their strictness. A conversation with a controller should be short, sweet and to the point.
The promoter style- This type of communicator focuses on planning activities. They are
interested to make the plan for start to end. They will spend hours talking about their weekend
plans but will also dentil a project from start to finish. They are passionate about their work and
too worried about talking of themselves. They are fabulous in effective communication. They are
always talking about their lives, plans, and range, and are just as hurried to ask the same. They
like to present a personal message when talking with peers and cater to their program and
conversations with their people. The verbal and non-verbal communication styles of that type of
person are open and honest. In the organisation, this makes them easy to approach with feedback.
The analyser- This are the person who works with detailed information regarding their work and
objectives and goals. Analysers are rightist forward to others because they don't want to talk in
negative sense because they know the effect of this. In the workplace, these types need all the
facts as soon as possible. They want to analyse and investigate and understand a project from all
angles.
The supportive style- This type of people considers in good listener and effective communicator.
The low-level employees of the organisation consider in supportive style of communication such
as guard, workers and other low level employees.
4.3 Reflective report effective time-management strategies
According to my opinion, Problem solving techniques are those assist in identifying the
solution to solve the problem in effective and efficient manner. There are various techniques
which are used for solving Problems which consist of followings :

problem the organisation must understand the problem clearly to provide better solution.
Assess the scale of problem : The scale of problem means the identifying the extent of
problem to make determine the better solution. Travelodge in order to identify the
solution to problem must understand the extent to which the problem lies.
Gather relevant information : According to my views, Travelodge in order to find the
solution to problems must gather information regarding this factors. I have identified that
employee turnover is high due to less pay scales and lack of motivation at the workplace.
Identify the root cause : As per my opinion, Root cause means to identify when this
problems started. Travelodge mus identify the cause of problem such as management
pressure, workload, lack of leadership etc.
Test of Hypothesis : It means undertaking quantitative research regarding the cause of
problem to gain better understanding regarding the problem.
Involve others : I think, To solve the problem it is required to gather suggestion of other
members to solve the problem in a better way. As per me, Travelodge must involved
their members to identify better solution of problem.
Consider the proposed solution : Travelodge In order to solve the problem can proposed
solution such as reducing employee turnover through use of providing them with
satisfaction by motivating them, providing them appraisals etc.
Test the proposed solution : It means implementing this proposed solution to identify if it
is working or not.
Champion your decision: The proposed solution require element of resources to
implement in organisation. It consists of financial or human resources. After making a
decision regarding problem I have to take permission from senior authority to get
approval of this idea.
Monitor the results : The next step after implementing the solution to the problems it
requires monitoring to reduce the chances of future problems regarding this matter.
According to My opinion, Travelodge must follow the problem solving technique to
resolve the problem and keep monitoring the situation to reduce chances of future problems of
employee turnover and customer care.
