4.1 Solutions to work-based problems in Travelodge
My organisation is facing high labour turnover rate because of various issues such as
ineffective communication, lack of motivation, excessive workloads etc. This is decreasing the
productivity and efficiency of the hotel and it is reflecting in the satisfaction level of customers.
Customer care is badly affected by these issues' hotel is currently facing. Some solutions can
solve these issues and it may can result in employee retention and better customer satisfaction.
4.2 Communication styles at various levels in an organisation
Travelodge has several departments and a long-chained hierarchy for which an
effective communication system is required to achieve efficiency. There are different
communication styles such as verbal, nonverbal.
Active listening is one of the way of making the communication effective and is
important transferrable skill. This has to be applied at the all the level of the
company.
Understanding perceptions and opinions of others by the employees in Travelodge
would help the management in building an efficient communication in the
company.
Appropriate written communication should be circulated in the standard form that
does not contain any vague meaning, difficult words. This would avoid any
misunderstanding related to the information passed within and outside the
organisation.
Top management: The communication from the top management is generally is
flow through newsletter, official mails, conferences, meetings, policy frameworks that
needs to be followed by the middle and lower management in Travelodge.
Middle management: At this level, communication flows horizontally between
different departments, downward between superior manager and his subordinates.
Communication takes different forms here such as offering suggestions to top management
and providing guidance to the lower level management in the form of instructions and
guidelines for carrying the policies and strategies framed out by the top management.
Lower management: This management is concerned with operational activities of
Travelodge. Information is passed in the form of submission of performance reports to
middle management, putting forward complaints of employees towards higher
management, helping low level workers regarding the work etc.
Recommendations: Being an assistant manager, I suggest company to use
motivational techniques such as recognition, job enrichment, incentives, and
healthy working conditions for motivating the staff. It will lead to retention of
employees. It also needs to make its communication system effective for

Solutions
I am of the opinion that, employees need to be allotted achievable task with
appropriate deadlines.
HR and departmental heads of hotel needs to motivate their employees by
providing opportunities related to development in career, incentives, delegating
authority etc.
Self-discipline needs to be encouraged in the employees. Management should
motivate people to apply their self-discipline skills in their operations. It is a
self-controlling of own actions and behaviour. It would help employees in
achieving their targets.
Negotiation is a discussion for reaching on an agreement. This tactic could be
used by management in settling differences among employees.
Management needs to persuade its employees in terms of changing their mind
sets
I suggest the company to provide stress free and healthy working environment
by giving employees frequent holidays, breaks to provide mental satisfaction to
the employees.
Ensuring effective communication system within Travelodge would eliminate
the issues regarding misunderstandings, delays etc.
I insist the management of the company to increase the job responsibilities and duties by
the way of job enrichment as per the caliber of the different employees. This would
make people in hotel more satisfy with their jobs.
