2PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN
Task 1
Concept of personal development and professional development
Personal development refers to those activities by which an individual can increase
awareness, self-knowledge, fulfills aspirations, social abilities, facilitate employability,
develop potential talents and improve the quality of life. It also involves developing others
through coaching, teaching or mentorship (Cottrell 2015).
Professional development is the process for learning for enhancing the skills and
talents to maintain a sustainable employment and become capable for growth career.
Professional development can be done through coaching, lesson study, technical assistance,
mentoring and consultation (Darling-Hammond, Hyler and Gardner 2017).
Value of short-term goals along with three examples
A short-term goal is an objective, set to be completed in the near future. Short-term
goals are the mini milestones which helps an individual to achieve the long-term goals. The
value of these short-term goals is to maintain the individual on track for their long-term goals.
Short-term goals creates an action and encourages and maintains focus within an individual
to reach the set long-term goal (Riahi, et al. 2015).
Listed below are examples of my short-term goals for becoming an entrepreneur:
Following a healthy diet
Getting membership in a gym and exercising daily for staying fit and active
Working regularly on my communication skills
Value of medium-term goals along with three examples
Medium-term goal refers to the intermediate goals between short-term goal and long-
term goal. These medium-term goals should resonate with the long-term goals and are much
easier to accomplish than the long-term goals. Achieving a medium-term goal would make

the individual realize the progress towards the accomplishment of long-term goal (Rekhy and
McConchie 2014).
Listed below are examples of my medium-term goals for becoming an entrepreneur:
Improving the academic performance in graduation
Learning French language
Saving money for a vacation after college
Value of long-term goals along with three examples
Long-term goal is termed as the vision, which the individual needs to accomplish in
the distant future. The value of long-term goal is to create a drive in the individual for self-
improvement. Long-term goals give a purpose to the life and a direction to where the
individual wants to take his/her life (Robertson-Kraft and Duckworth 2014).
Listed below are examples of my long-term goals for becoming an entrepreneur:
Paying off my education loan
Graduating from the university with a degree in business management along with
good marks.
Opening my own bakery shop.
A personal development plan
Personal development planning refers to an action plan used for establishing the aims
and goals of an individual relating to the career desires of an individual (PLANNING 2018).
The plan helps in choosing the correct activities, which will facilitate in meeting the needs
