1.0Self-reflectiononpersonallearningand development, and the transferable skills Thecurrentjobmarketishypercompetitiveandinordertoboostone employability and make sure that their competencies are on a level where they are ahead of the curve than their competition, proper skill development and quality learning are essential. The role of skill development is paramount as nowadays the job requirements in both public and private sector are very complex and in order to get selected among many competitors which are all gunning for the same spot, a thorough and specific skill portfolio is very crucial as having a complete all around skill-set impresses both the interviewer and bolsters the ability to be effective at the selected job role. 1.1Identificationandreflectiononmyapproachtopersonal learning and development I recognize the fact that simply knowing how to communicate and talk to people and simply sit through multiple interviews to get one job by sheer luck is no longer an approach that works in modern job markets. Nowadays, interviewers focus on candidates which have developed a keen and well thought skill-set portfolio even for the most basic of job as it reflects desire to learn and academic disciple which are appreciable qualities in candidates. In order to apply and be a respected candidate whichthepanelresponsibleforconductinginterviewsandscreeningprocess appreciates upon the first glance at my CV, I must display proper avenues of skill development and learning. There are many ways to acquire the skills which are needed to be employable for most job roles as many skill requirements for generic job positions are near universal such as English language skills and proper communication skills and these skills can be both verbal and written. Simply acquiring and being proficient at these skillsmightbeenoughtoboostsomeone'spersonalityandwayofdisplaying academic proficiency to the point where they start acing job interviews but the reality is quite different. The job market has evolved to the point where simply knowing a couple skills might not cut it anymore. My personalapproachtowards learninganddevelopmentis that itisa continuous cycle where a lot of skills must be required and combined to form a 3
diverse portfolio which enables me and individuals in general to tackle a lot of job roles in a comprehensive manner. One of the most major challenges that one can face in the current job market is that there is progress and growth of technology and managerial skills to the point that if one does not acquire skills to replace or compliment their current existing ones, one risks the value of their skills becoming redundant and overall attractiveness in terms of being a valuable employee. 1.2 Identification of the transferable skills I have already developed by attending this module The attainment of complex skills is a very intensive process as one not only needs to learn the basics as but also needs to master them to the point where their daily application becomes a routine habit without the existence of critical errors. The thing that makes this entire process way more complicated than it needs to be is the fact that simply selecting one skill is not enough and there must be enough emphasis paid on the type of skill being learned to gain the most value out of the time and money spent to learn that respective skill. One of the best types of skills that individuals can equip to their portfolio to gain the most out of the job opportunities presented to them are transferable skills which refers to specified skills which can be used to perform optimal job roles and operations across various job roles and occupations irrespective of the industry within which the job belongs. Some of the most sought after transferable skills include communication skills which can be both vernal and written as both are equally important, the art of multitasking which is needed in today's exhaustive corporate work cultures, critical thinking, problem solving skills and creativity to name a few. The transferable skills that I learned during the teaching of this module were critical thinking skills which are very important as I am more interested in landing a futurejobinthecorporatemanagementsectorandthemodernbusiness environment is very disruptive and requires candidates to possess the ability to understand comprehend and analyze complex problems with maximum efficiency. When it comes to conducting academic activities and studying in a proper manner, I would like to develop time management skills which are near universal in importance as every job role and occupation irrespective of its nature and industry requires employers to conduct their required activities within time constraints. By learning about proper multitasking skills and giving priorities to tasks by dividing them by the time available for the execution of tasks is very important part of academic learning as sticking to the curriculum in an efficient manner guarantees quality learning. Time management will be a major part of my academic skill-set. To round off my development regarding the provision of various skill-sets which will boost my knowledge, I would like to focus on the development of business administration skills to boost my working in the workplace of the jobs that I am interested in. Having proper knowledge of this skill will allow me to bean efficient business operation handler with a keen mind for business related problems and their consequentsolutions.Workingincorporateenvironmentisaveryexhaustive process and with proper administrative knowledge to guide me, I am sure that I can become a very productive employee capable of displaying competent results for any company I work in. 5
