INTRODUCTION
The report aims to analyse the concept of personal and professional development for an
individual. Personal development is all about enhancing own skills and knowledge which will be
helpful in both personal and professional life. Personal development is necessary for all the
individuals who are looking for achieving aims and objectives to get succeed in many areas of
life. Therefore, professional development is what an individual require to build their career in an
effective manner (Мorozova, and Kuzheleva, 2020). Every individual has their motive to
accomplish different challenges in life. There is requirement of many skills and capabilities to
focus on own development. This report is going to create and evaluate short, medium and long
term goals for a student. Also, there will be discussion of the valve of PDP through creating one
example.

Define the concept of personal and professional development.
Person development is a activity that helps to enhance person's potential and capabilities.
It is a life long process, this is beneficial for identifying skills which are require to achieve the
targeted goal. It gives a boost to persons confidence and encouragement to live a higher quality
life. In other words, personal development consist any skills that a person want to learn and
enhance to improve themselves. It bridges the gaps between where a person stands today and
where he want to reach in upcoming time (Howard, and Eddy‐Imishue, 2020). Personal
development means developing the quality of thoughts, social skills, improving mental skills and
feelings. Professional development means learning to earn and improving their working quality,
which create new opportunities and career advancement. The major goal of professional
development keep an individual up to date about current trends and also helpful for their career
goals.
Describe the value of short-term goals by identifying at least three personal examples.
It is something that a person achieve in few time like within a day, in a week and in one month.
Short term goals are consist those things, that a person wants to achieve in near future. These
goals help to manage time and beneficial for increasing productivity. Maximumly a person

achieve these goals lastly in 30 days and this give a sense of accomplishment. If a person achieve
there short term goals then, it easy for him to accomplish his long term goals. Short term goals
are internal part of achieving long term goals (Earley, 2020). If a person have capabilities to
achieve there targeted short goals then he goes upward for achieving their long term goals. Goals
are require in everyone's life because its give a direction to there life. A vision and perfect plan is
must be require. Short term goals beneficial for accomplishing a persons life goals. Short term
goals give a presence of targets that a person have in there life. By completing daily basis target
a person develop his mind to achieve long time period basis goals. This helps to create a positive
attitude of a person like he become more committed and determinant toward their life goals.
Examples:
To score good marks: Getting good score in very exam is a basic goal for a student. He wants to
score good marks in every semester. By achieving short term targets and goals he become
prepare to achieve long term goals.
Submit assignment on time: Being a good student its a responsibility to submit their
assignments on time. By completing assignment a student get aware and gain knowledge
about the topic and it give advantage to gain good marks in their exam.
Maintain regularity in classroom: Maintaining attendance in their classroom is also a short
term goal. It basically for those students who are not attend classes regularly and this give a
major impact on their studies.

Medium term goals are the mainly created for 6 months durations. That means, these
goals can be last longer for this much period of time (Ragan, 2018). These goals fill the gap
between short and long term so that, a student could be able to achieve their targets easily.
Without moving to long term aims and vision, there is need to focus on step by step stages to get
success. So that, students needs to first become capable by having potential skills and
knowledge. So that, the future will be bright and they will not face any hurdles in achieving long
term targets. I need to first achieve short term objectives so that, it will be easy for me to move
on medium term goals which will take some time. These goals plays vital role for my personal
and professional development as it creates a path towards achieving future career objectives.
Hence, the medium terms goals are valuable for deciding the potential capabilities of the students
towards academic life. Personal examples of medium term goals are described below:

Enhance technological and digital skills: this goal is necessary in the current time.
Having technical skills is required everywhere whether at academic professional level. This
includes knowledge of MS word, power point and Excel.
Complete my diploma course: in the period of 6 months duration, I would complete my
diploma in art and designing. It will help me to apply for part time internships and start to gain
workplace experience.
Learn and adopt critical ways of thinking: Critical thinking is necessary for self
development which enhance my decision making and problem solving attitude. I would be able
to achieve these goals through involve in case studies, group discussions and present own ideas
and thoughts.

Every individual has some or what goals and aims which they wants to achieve in their
life. Every students gets into the academic learning to develop skills and behaviour which would

goals are created for the period of 5 years. These goals must be achieve within this limited period
of time so that, opportunities will be maintain. As soon as students will achieve their short and
medium terms goals, they will ] tend to start looking and working for long term objectives. It has
analysed that, these three goals are interconnected and has step by step procedure. It is something
that a person wants to achieve in future these type of goals require proper planning and time
management. They are not something that a person achieve with These goals are related with
professional career objectives that will focus on improving skills and knowledge which is
required in professional context. Some of personal example of these goals are described below:
Start own business: It is my one of potential aim which is to start my own small
business by investing in a good idea and utilise skills which I have already developed.
Learn Leadership and HR skills: These skills are necessary to accomplish my business
objectives and be able to guide and motivate my team mates.
Buy a house: My long term target is to buy a house which I will get through achieve
great profits through my business.

are required to develop within limited period of time. These plans will showcase the essential
skills and capabilities within limited and targeted period of time (Knight, and Newby, 2019).

to fulfil their particular aims. This shows what resources and support does they require to
improve targets skills in effective manner. The value for PDP are described below:
Develop confidence and competency: personal and professional development are the
most essential activities which needs to be focused by an individual. It is valuable to boost
confidence to communicate and interact with others by improving weak skills. Also, it develop
competences and potential to cope up with challenges at academic or professional workplace. By
being competent, an individual will be able to deal with problems and become competitive for
others. In academic context, every student wants to be in lead as compare to other students. So
that, they require to be more prominent in scoring marks, completing assessments in an effective
manner.
Development of personality: This is another important factor for an individual in order
to present themselves in front of audience. Personality plays an important role to seek attention
and making them force to listen. Good personality will emphasize on others and make them

manner, organisations are looking for good personality individuals who are seems to have great
attitude towards work and capabilities to work in professional manner. This could be done

both academic and professional context. Creating of these skills shows its relevance and
applicability in various fields of life. Therefore, a student must take these opportunities and
