POMPOM HOTEL WASTE MANAGEMENT1
Task 1
Answer 1.
Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 is one of the
legislations which the Pompom Hotel has to abide by. This act by the Australian government
lays out that any organization operating within the Australian territory must not pose any harm to
the natural heritage of the country. Department of the Environmental Water, Heritage and the
Arts must approve of any organizational activity, which is to be carried out by any organization
in Australia, under this act. It also empowers local governments to resist against any commercial
organization, should they realize that the organization has been doing harm to their local
environment. This act further encourages commercial organizations and project management
companies to encompass environmental aspects in their businesses, so that they do not have to be
intervened by local governments at all (Environment.gov.au. 2019).
A regulation which the Pompom hotel has to abide by is the set of norms regarding online
payment in Australia, as laid out by the Reserve Bank. It is the apex bank in Australia, and is
responsible for ensuring regulations and issuing them regularly, involving online payments. The
reason for this is the fact that the payment systems include a minimum of two financial
institutions. Not only does RBA regulate as the payments systems regulator, but also as a
clearing house, responsible for clearing all payments (Rba.gov.au. 2019).
The Pompom Hotel also has to abide by model codes of conduct, as laid out by the WHS
Act and Regulations. This has been enforced in the country to ensure that the workers across all
of the sectors, enjoy a basic human right in the form of safety. This act applies to managers and
senior personnel of any post or designation, who has any person from any background working

hotel can enhance its policies in a numerous aspects. Firstly, as per the case study, it is found that
the hotel does incorporate a number of strategies to turn waste into biodegradable forms of
energy. It is here that it can be pointed out that the hotel, besides efficiently managing its own
wastes, can even make sure that they train other companies surrounding them as well, for the
purpose of being a more responsible corporate (Kasavan, Mohamed and Halim 2017).
Furthermore, it can also consider selling off wastes like bottles and cans, as it can also mean
generating revenue for the company.
Answer 3.
a.
The management department of the hotel must consider adopting specific changes within
and outside the organization, to be competitive with the concurrent market dynamics. Followed
by this, the management must consider meetings with the various departmental heads of the
organization to pitch them about the changes, and the benefits which these changes would bring
to the organization, if they are adopted. Next, these departmental heads would brief the
subordinate employees under them about these changes, and how the implementation would
follow. Simultaneously, these departmental heads have to consider the various skills which
would be required by the employees to realize the proposed changes. Following this, necessary

training sessions have to be given to employees in order to ensure that every employee is on an
equal platform in terms of required skills to bring about these changes. It is suggested that those
employees who would resist the propose changes, will be given exclusive sessions of counselling
to assess their resistance and possibly eliminating them altogether. Last but not the least,
management departments must consider aligning the proposed policies with the corporate
philosophy of the organization for the successful implementation of it (Cameron and Green
2015).
