INTRODUCTION
Portfolio refers to a collection of different types of details which can be used in a suitable
manner. By making its use an individual is able to ensure that the various types of goals and
objectives which are set for the future can be attained without any kind of problems and issues. It
is quite important to prepare a portfolio for a person so that the overall level of skills and
competencies can be reflected in a highly effective manner (Ankers, Barton and Parry, 2018).
Therefore by making its use a person will be able to ensure that the presentation of the overall
level of skills and competencies must be made. In this Portfolio, a wide range of research will be
made on different topics. In it, various topics like Personal statement, Self-reflection on your
experience, Personal Development Planning and Research on suitable leadership in the industry
will be made.
MAIN BODY
Personal Statement
I am working for a company named T.J Plastering. The company deals in providing of
plaster products and other construction related services to its different customers and clients.
Therefore while working for this company I have made sure that I am able to enhance my overall
level of skills without facing problems and issues.
Earlier on while I was a student I did not had much experience of the way the industries
used to function (Callahan and et.al., 2020). But after working at T.J Plastering I have gained
vast and valuable experience on the way the organizations operate and therefore this has been
very useful for me in ensuring that I am able to make use of my relevant skills and competencies
effectively and efficiently without facing problems and issues. Thus in this way I have made sure
that I gain relevant experience of the industry in which I work.
Thus, I have gained knowledge. With the use of knowledge I have made sure that I can
gain valuable experience in the Construction industry in the future. Therefore it is quite
important for a person to make sure that by gaining valuable experience relevant progress is
made in the future. I have learned that Construction industry is a wide one and covers different
types of aspects. It also considers the maintenance of the buildings which have been constructed.
Therefore in this way I have made sure that by working continuously in this industry I am able to
attain relevant skills which will be quite useful for me in the future.

I learned that there are three main sectors in the Construction industry- Commercial and
social, Residential and Infrastructure. All of these sectors form the core of this industry and
contribute effectively to its overall output without problems and issues. Therefore these sectors
of the construction industry contribute in their own manner towards the attainment of the
different types of goals and objectives. While working at T.J Plastering I have learned about
these sectors and the contribution they make as a whole towards the overall output effectively
and efficiently without problems and issues.
The industry accounts for nearly 3 million jobs which therefore contributes to 10% of
U.K.'s total employment and thus includes both manufacturing and services. As Construction is
high-cost, high-risk and long-term activity its overall performance is quite good indicator of the
condition of the economy as whole.
Thus, In the future my focus will be on the way I can enhance my overall skills and
knowledge and thus make sure that I am able to attain the relevant goals and objectives related to
my development so that I am able to progress further in my career in this industry.
Thus I can say that I have gained skills like time-management, communication skills so
that their application can be made effectively by me in the future if the requirement to do so is
there. Therefore I have made sure that by working and gaining experience I am able to achieve
my different types of goals and objectives.
Self-reflection on experience
I am working in T.J Plastering. It is a company which deals in the providing of plaster-
related products and services to its customers (da Ponte and Quaresma, 2016). As a part of this
company I have gained valuable experience which will be very helpful for me to progress further
in my career in the Construction Industry. Thus as a part of this company I have made sure that
by gaining relevant skills and knowledge I can ensure my personal as well as professional
development.
When I first started out in this company I had little knowledge on how to behave
professionally in a dynamic environment (Durks and et.al., 2017). I also did not knew much
about the ethics which are required in a professional setting and their application. Therefore by
working in T.J Plastering I have made sure that the dynamic environment was used by me in the
right manner to attain knowledge and skills about behaving in a professional environment and
setting and applying the ethics in my behaviour.

Thus the use of this self-reflection has ensured that I find out my shortcomings and
therefore make sure that the application of the appropriate techniques is made to remove them
highly effectively and efficiently. Therefore by working in T.J Plastering I am making sure that I
am able to attain knowledge of behaving ethically in a professional setting and thereby help the
company in progressing in the future by applying my different skills and competencies
effectively and efficiently.
Thus In this way I can say that my work experience & transferable skill have been quite
helpful for me in becoming an efficient and effective creative leader who is guided by the ethics
(Edirippulige and et.al., 2018). By working in T.J Plastering I have gained these skills &
experience which is helpful for me in guiding my team effectively and efficiently in doing the
work in a proper manner. I am in a better position now to understand the way the teams work in
my organization and therefore I am able to guide my team members properly. Thus by using my
creative leadership skills I can understand the problems and issues which are being faced by my
team members and therefore ensure that I can solve them properly.
Also I have ensured that I use my academic education & my training so that I am able to
work on my leadership skills by making them more creative. (Grise-Owens and et.al., 2018).
Thus In this way the experience of my studies & the training which I have received from my
organization i.e. T.J Plastering has helped me in identifying the ways in which the different
leaders can function. Therefore in this way I am able to understand better about the various types
of needs and requirements of the staff members regarding motivation and the techniques and
methods which can be used so that the appropriate motivation can be provided to them. This is
helpful because it provides an extensive training about the way ethical processes can be used to
make a company better and thus enabling the attainment of the different types of goals and
objectives in the future. I am sure that this has helped me in the proper development of my
leadership skills and abilities and has enabled me to make their use in the right manner in the
different types of situations and circumstances.
Thus, I can say that both my work experience & transferable skills and academic
education & training have been very helpful for me because by making their use I have made
myself more efficient through the use of different types of leadership skills properly. I am now
able to act like a leader and therefore guide and motivate my various team members so that they

are able to remain highly focused and can thus can concentrate on the attainment of the goals as
well as objectives in the future which will be helpful or the company's progress.
Personal Development Planning
Personal Development Planning is a process through which the overall Personal
Development of a person can be ensured through the process of identification of the goals and
objectives which are to be achieved in the future (Hopwood, 2016). It is a plan which is useful in
the development of the relevant skills and competencies. Therefore by making its use a person
can ensure that the development can be attained in the future without facing problems and issues.
Thus by preparing a PDP the person will be able to ensure that the goals and objectives are
effectively attained. As I work in T.J Plastering the use of this type of plan can be made so that
the the development of personality can be done for the future. The detailed PDP which I will be

Research on suitable leadership in the industry
As I work in Construction Industry in U.K. I know in detail about the way this industry
functions. There are different types of ethical issues which are present in this industry. The
ethical issues which are present here are explained as follows-

Charging for sub-par materials- In the construction industry sometimes the customers
are charged for sub-par materials which are provided to the them (Lopes and et.al., 2020).
Thus in this way they are charged higher rates for the material but are provided sub-
standard material which is below an acceptable quality level. Therefore in this way the
customers can feel cheated because they paid higher price but could not obtain quality
material.
Safety issues- There can be safety issues with the construction material which is
provided to the customers (Patrick and et.al., 2017). This can be due to the reason that
safety of the customers can be compromised. Thus in this way the customers are required
to make sure that they are able to deal with these issues by checking the quality of the
construction material which has been provided to them.
Treating workers unfairly- In the construction industry, some workers are treated
unfairly and are not given proper wages for the work which they are doing (Regan,
Laschinger and Wong, 2016). Thus this affects their rights and also leads towards an
impact on their overall motivation and morale. Therefore in this manner this is a major
ethical issue which is creating an impact on the workers of the construction industry.
Thus it is required from the leaders and managers that they respect the workers and
provide them their wages on time.
Not following environmental regulations- There are different types of environmental
regulations which have to be followed by the organizations in the construction industry
(Slatyer and et.al., 2016). Therefore the organizations which are operating in this industry
are required to follow these regulations which will help them in managing their
operations effectively and efficiently.
Thus, it can be said that creativity and creative leadership are quite important from the point of
view of the leaders of the organization. Thus by making their use the leaders are able to make
sure that the identification of ethical issues can be done quickly without facing problems and
issues. Also by displaying such type of leadership these ethical issues can be easily resolved.
The use of the following leadership theories can be made so as to solve the ethical issues
in the Construction Industry-
Contingency theory- This is a theory which proposes that there is no particular way of
leadership which is applicable to all situations (Tham and et.al., 2018). Thus the actions which

are taken by a leader are dependent on the nature of the situation which is prevailing within the
organization. Thus this theory has been very important for me in developing my leadership
abilities in T.J Plastering because by making the use of this theory the nature of the situation can
be identified and assessed properly and thus the actions which are required to be taken are taken
thereby ensuring that the correct actions are taken. Thus this helps in the development of
leadership abilities as it is helpful in assessing the nature of the situation and thereby taking the
correct approach towards the solving of problems and issues which may be faced by the
subordinates due to the situation.
Behavioural theory- This is a theory in which the focus shifts on the behaviour
displayed by the leaders instead of their qualities. While working in T.J Plastering I can make
use of this theory so that it helps me in behaving in a proper manner with the staff members of
the organization. This helps in positive stimulation towards a particular goal or objective. This
can influence the staff members as their overall motivation and morale can be boosted thereby
leading towards a display of positive behaviour and thus helping in the attainment of the goals
and objectives of the organization.
Situation theory- It is a theory which states that there is no particular way for a leader to
take the desired actions. The actions taken by the leader depends upon the prevailing situation.
Therefore I can make the sue of this theory in T.J Plastering because this theory requires acting
according to the situation so that the different types of goals and objectives can be attained.
Relationship theories- These theories focus on the connection between the leader and
follower. Thus in this way the relationship between a leader and the follower can be developed
which will thus be quite useful in ensuring that the goals and objectives can be attained. Thus in
this way I will be able to make sure that I form a good relationship with people in T.J Plastering
which helps me a lot in the attainment of goals and objectives.
Thus I can say that the use of Behavioural theory is more important than Contingency
theory in the construction industry. It is so because by making the use of this theory the
behaviour with the staff members can be improved so that their motivation and morale is boosted
and they are influenced towards the attainment of the goals and objectives in the future. Thus this
theory is very useful for the leaders.

From the above discussion, it can be concluded that Porfolio refers to a collection of
different types of details. Therefore it is important for a person by making its use the person will
