FIRST COUNTRY STUDY England is the country of United Kingdom which is counted in one of the developedcountries in the world. Further, it is also known for its government who is responsible formanaging the residents in the nation. There are many factors which influence the approaches ofmanaging people in this economy. Some of them are as follows: Economic system- Economy system is one of the biggest and the developed economy ofthe world. The mixed economy system is followed in the country which supports the capitalismand free market economy. Government interferes in the transactions as well as exchanges whichare carried out in the country (England Economy, 2010). So, it can be said that there are fewrights given to the private companies to operate their business. In England, government interferein planning of the natural resources as they are scare in the nation so they ensure that there isequal distribution of resources. Being a mixed economy, here, both private as well as the publicsector organizations are playing a crucial role and giving high contribution (Bowles, 2014).Major aim of this economy is to make efforts for the welfare of society. So, because of thesereasons, it has become the most financially stable economic system across the world. Corporate governance- In England, various sets of acts are made by the country and theyhave to be followed by the companies who come under the London stock exchange. In this, thecompanies who are listed in the corporate governance code are required to expose as how theyhave adhered with the code. If in any case they have not complied with them then in that case theorganization has to give reason for the same (The UK Corporate Governance Code, 2014). Thereare different sections made for companies for safeguarding the interest of residents. The sectionscontain leadership, effectiveness accountability, remuneration, etc. As per the corporategovernance of nation, private firms are motivated enough to play the game. Here, there is noneed of the fulfillment of different norms in company’s accounts as firms are not required todisclose it (Leblanc and Gillies, 2010). However, there is a rules-based approach which strictlystates the exact provisions which are necessary for organizations to follow. keeping accountability for the adherence of norms made by the government (Harford, Mansi andMaxwell, 2012). Employee relation system- There is appropriate employee relations system which is madeby the government. In England there is only one union confederation and further 26% of UKemployees are the union members. Besides this, the industrial relation act 1971 has been made tocontrol the industrial relations and manage the work appropriately. There are many several actswhich are made for the welfare of the people (Employee Relations, 2016). The governmentfocuses on maintaining coordinal relationship with the workers. Thus, it can be said that nation ismaking firms contributing to a high extent in maintaining healthy relations with its employees sothat they can be kept satisfied and firms can enjoy benefits through their commitment and loyalty(Walby, 2013). European Union’s social policy is helping the firms to have a system of sharingresponsibilities among employers and employees with respect to work in an ethical way withmaintaining a positive working environment (Fossum, 2014). UK has established The Advisory,Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas) in 1974 with an aim to create healthy relationsamong employees and employers. Now, as a result of this, nation is having very few employmentrelations disputes. Equal opportunity and diversity- In England, equality act 2010 has been executed by thegovernment which do not discriminate between the public services, private goods etc. Sexualdiscrimination act has been made by the country which states that the employee’s will not bediscriminated on the basis of sex; culture religion etc. Besides this, England is having vastdiversity in the population. Even on the basis of the diversity no resident is discriminated (Equalopportunity and diversity, 2016). Further, in England, equality act 2006 is made to enforce theequality laws made by the government. It can be said that nation is highly focusing on sevenmajor areas in order to maintain equal opportunity and diversity that is, age, ethnicity/race,sexual orientation, work life balance, gender, religion/belief and disability (Barak, 2013). TheBritish Council’s Diversity Assessment Framework (DAF) is that tool established bygovernment by which working of firms can be assessed that whether they are adhering todiversity and equality in their working practices or not. 2
