CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION, SDG-6 IN INDIA.
Clean water for drinking and other domestic uses is essential for a healthy living. As some
people say, water is life. However, access to this clean water is a challenge to many across the
world, or instance India. Plans have been put in place by the government of India together with
the UN to ensure supply to clean water across the country. This research work thus explains the
clean water and sanitation, SDG-6 in India.
India being one of the most highly populated nations across the world, require an efficient water
supply to sustain the people. However, poor management on water supply and lack of sanitation
has led to many contracting diseases yearly (Water, 2018).
In India, regions such as Kartanaka, Gujarat and Rajasthan are one of those places where there is
inadequacy in the supply of fresh and clean water. Statistics show that poor hygiene and
sanitation around these regions have led to many people, and most especially children
contracting diseases yearly due to lack of clean water supply.
However, the local government together with the United Nations have come together and drawn
plans aimed at ensuring adequate water supply in the most affected regions in India. The SDG-6
plans put in place have aimed at solving water shortage and ensure safe drinking water within the
next 15 years to come (Guppy et al, 2019).
Research shows that since the implementation of these plans, together with improved sanitation
there has been an increased supply of fresh and clean water.
