Communication skills important in every sector. In academics communication
skills play important role, It affects students personality and behaviour it also impacts on
their future performance. This reflective essay explain effective communication skills
and also its effect on academic and professional life of a student. This report also reflect
performance, behaviour and experience of student in university course and what
challenges they face.
Communication is an act of using words, sounds or behaviour and to show or
exchange information or ideas etc. It is very critical element in student personal and
professional lives. Effective communication skills include active listening, non-verbal
communication, asking question, providing feedback etc. In effective communication
there are various barriers such as semantic, organization, emotional and personal
(Karnieli-Miller, 2020). These barriers affect effective communication. Basically it has
two types which include verbal and written communication.
Verbal Communication: In this communication type people use words and share
their idea and information with others. For effective verbal communication it includes
facial expressions, tone of voice and body language etc. Clarity in verbal
communication is important to share ideas or information with others. It is used in daily
conversation. Effectiveness in verbal communication is important to explain the ideas to
other person.
Written Communication: It is a process of sharing messages and ideas in written
form. It is including emails, letters, social media, books, magazines and other platform.
For effective written communication writer must include facts and statistics in organized
manner for better understanding of reader (Vogel, Meyer, and Harendza, 2018). It is
most common way of communication it is also a mode of business communication.
Written communication is used when information is long and include complex terms and
which cannot explain verbally. It is very effective way of communication it depends on
correct choice of words.
Learning style: It helps me to improve my communication skills. By using different
learning style it is easy for me to improve my communication. I used different learning
styles to improve my effective communication skills such as visual, verbal, social,
logical, combination etc. These learning style help me to learn and understand in better

way it also helps in my career and in my personal life. For example in my personal life
experience learning style is helpful because it helps me a lot in my academic writings
and as well as to improve communication skills. Verbal and visual learning style help me
to learn from audio and videos effectively. These different learning stylers help me a lot
to improve my effective communication skills and it help me to achieve success in my
academics.
Communication skill play critical role in my life in every stage either in academic
or in professional context. Both types of communication help me in academic and my
university course. Verbal communication helps me in various ways such as it improves
my presentation skills, it also helps me to communicate and share my views on
particular topic. In my academic success communication skills play very crucial role, it
helps me to answer the question in class it also gives me challenge to improving
communication skills for effective communication and to share right information with
others. In academics effective communication help me to understand other person
ideas and information and which is used to develop myself. It will also help me in
future and my professional life (Supandi, Rosvitasari, and Kusumaningsih, 2017). In
professional context verbal communication help me in team leading, seminars and in
my interviews and also in public speaking. Written communication skills help me in my
letter writing, and effective emails writing. My non-verbal communication skills help in
my interview and my personality development skills. It also helps me to grow my
personality in my professional life.
If I develop my communication skills than it helps me in my professional career.
For this purpose, I will try to actively participate in social gatherings so that I can get a
chance to communicate with variety of audience. Good verbal and written
communication help me to deliver and understand information quickly.
If my communication skills are not better than it will affect my academics as well as my
professional career. It gives negative impact on listeners. In bad communication skills
lack of communication and misunderstanding happen.
For effective communication skills listening is also an important part of
communication. If I am a good listener than people easily explain me their ideas and it
