PREVENTION OF OBESITY1
Community Health Nursing Diagnosis Statement
Obesity is a huge problem these days in all different age groups of people all over the
world. It is one of the leading causes of death at present considering all the other health issues
such as diabetes, heart diseases and various others. The possible reason for this huge prevalence
is most likely to be the lifestyle adopted by the people of different generations at present.
Health Inequity or Disparity
The rate of obesity among children, adolescents and adults is increasing all over the
world, including the United States. The disease condition affects differently in every population.
The instances of death are mostly associated with the adult population though.
Primary Community and Prevention Resources
The Mississippi community can be considered as a primary community, selected for this
paper. The rate of obesity is very high in that community, especially in adults, which is 37.7%
(Grant, 2018). There are a few preventive measures such as promoting the importance of leading
a healthy lifestyle and the awareness programs on the associated risks of obesity to an
individual’s health. The governments are taking the above-mentioned measures to lower the
prevalence.
Underlying Causes
The principle causal reason that can be selected for this high prevalence is the lifestyle
choices made by all the generations of a population these days. The example of those choices
includes the unrestricted consumption of food without considering the calorie count, lack of
proper physical activity and the unlimited consumption of alcoholic beverages along with
smoking (www.cdc.gov, 2020).

Evidence-Based Practice
It has been found from various studies that the prevention of stress eating and increased
physical activity lowers the instances of obesity (Wolfenden et al., 2016). The reason behind this
is that both of those interventions help in lowering the calorie count of the body. This instance
helps in controlling the body weight of an individual and lowers the instances of obesity.
Identification of Data
As per the CDC report, the prevalence of obesity is only increasing with time for the past
few years among all the different races and sex in the Mississippi community. Hence, the
problem is really significant and requires immediate actions, which involve the prevention
strategies.
Development of Community Health Nursing Social Media Campaign
Strategies
Social Media campaign Objective

disease along with the associated health risks and the prevention or control strategies among a
wide range of populations quickly and effectively.

the case of health-associated social campaigns, the profit of the seller involves improved public
health and the benefit of the buyers involve an improved individual health (Lee & Kotler, 2015).
