Assignment on Production Flow- Equipment Down time - Analysis
Introduction
Generally, in a production process for any gigantic company, lot of machineries are involved. The
machines are integrated to each other and stoppage of one machinery/ equipment can slow down the
entire process. The assignment seeks to analyse the downtime of eight such equipment which are
part of integrated process in a manner that all plays a crucial role in the production of goods. The 8
equipment comprise of 2 cranes and 6 other equipment. The details of the equipment has been
presented as under:
(a) APM;
(b) ASM;
(c) APS;
(d) ECSM;
(e) HLW 1& 2;
(f) WCSM;
(g) Cranes comprising N Crane & S Crane
The business report presents a detailed analysis of downtime of equipment for past 26 months
wherein data for the month of December, 2018 is not there, assuming no down time. The report has
been presented under five parts. The detail reported is presented here-in-below:
Part A of the Report: Monthly trend analysis of downtime for the machinery is past 26 months
The total downtime of machinery for the past 26 months has been 88014 hours and does not include
any time for slowdown (the data for slowdown has not been considered for analysis). The above
figure is quite high and requires immediate attention of the management to rectify the same. Based on
the data enclosed in the excel the downtime of machinery for the past 26 months has been presented

The graph has been drawn on the basis of Pivot Table and displays a uniform downtime of machinery
in all months except two abnormal months of December, 2017 and April. 2017 wherein the downtime
of each machinery has increased abruptly. The worst hit machines during the concerned months are
mainly WCSM for December, 2017 and S Crane for April, 2018. Further, the total of downtime, during
the abrupt months have been 7401 hours and 5173 hours which is significantly high. Also, seeing the
downtime of machinery for the month of January and February, 2019 it may be seen that company
has taken stringent measured to curb downtime and the same has been amply evident from the sharp

fall in downtime in the month of January and February, 2019 in the graph. Also, the downtime of the
concerned months are 63 and 77 hours respectively, significantly low.
Part B of the Report: Quarterly trend analysis of downtime for the machinery is past 26 months
The total downtime of machinery for the past 26 months has been 88014 hours and does not include
any time for slowdown (the data for slowdown has not been considered for analysis). The above
figure is quite high and requires immediate attention of the management to rectify the same. Based on
the data enclosed in the excel the downtime of machinery for the past quarters has been presented as

The graph has been drawn on the basis of Pivot Table and displays a uniform downtime of machinery
in all months except two abnormal quarters of Quarter 4, 2017 and Quarter 2, 2017 wherein the
downtime of each machinery has increased abruptly. The worst hit machines during the concerned
months are mainly WCSM for Quarter 4 of 2017 and ASM for Quarter 2 of 2018. Further, the total of
downtime, during the abrupt quarters have been 14157 hours and 12445 hours which is significantly
high. Also, seeing the downtime of machinery for the 1st quarter of 2019 it may be seen that company
has taken stringent measured to curb downtime and the same has been amply evident from the sharp
fall in downtime in the month of January and February, 2019 in the graph. Also, the downtime of the
concerned months are 63 and 77 hours respectively, significantly low.
Part C of the Report: Analysis of Cumulative and Standalone downtime based on Pareto Chart
Analysis has been done for the downtime for the machinery is the past 26 months based on pareto
chart which presents data for total downtime for each machinery and cumulative downtime. The
downtime table has been presented as under:
