The following narrative attempts to analyse what i have studied for this course as part of
my preparations in order to achieve my career goals of becoming a journalist. It was ever
a childhood ambition as most kids do not aspire to be involved in dealing with customers
at a 5 star hotel. But i always had good communication skills. I’ve always had a knack for
understanding what people want. I understand what might be their need at their tipping
points. I won’t brag about having exceptional communication skills but when i stepped
out of my teen years i gradually became aware that i could talk to people (Anderson, Bell
& Shirky, 2015). Holding a conversation and extracting positive outcomes from them
came naturally to me. I took up mass communication as my major for undergraduates.
I understood the role of media and how they can shape the perspective of masses and
change the direction of nations. It soon became clear to me media had a bias and just like
any other professions it had limitations. There are positive and negative aspects attached
to this particular profession (Coddington, (2015). The dilemma faced by a media
professional who has vowed to society that they would relate the news without any bias.
There are moral and ethical obligations. There is a need to understand society. The
structures that define society. Its development, structure and functioning needs to
clarified and thus sociology will be a very important subject that i would need to study.
A journalist has the power to shape the information that they gather into a particular
propaganda but they can also just report the news telling both sides of e story. Journalism
has the ability to spread and political uproar and create massive changes the social order.
It is important for a journalist to understand politics and its complex workings, its
corruption and discrepancies. A journalist has the report the whole story (Benson, 2018).
If its political thee needs to be due diligence. Political science is another subject that i
would like to add to my roster. In order to narrate events thoroughly diction and
vocabulary is essential. There needs to be no flaws in the narration whether it be written
or televised.
Dishonest journalists can face legal challenges. A free media is necessary for every
democracy to function properly. But reporting the news comes with its own
responsibilities. A journalist should never of mould the news according to his or her own
biases. Just like in any other institution media has also been corrupted. Their are frequent
cases of news manipulation were political agendas were promoted (Splendore, et al.

2016). In this digital age reliability is a huge factor. Sources need to be rechecked.
Communication skills are an important requirement in this aspect. Is is essential to ask
the right questions to get the proper answers. There should be no indiscrepancies in
writing and my coursework must be relevant to these aspirations.
There are two fundamentals that builds journalism: visual and text. Both of them need to
be implemented to report news with complete accuracy. Public speaking and
understanding rhetoric is importance. Speaking to the public in a manner that will make
them understand the importance of an issue. But it shouldn't be aggressive. It should be
poised and not cause agitation (Campbell, 2015). There needs to be a certain intellectual
standard attached to the rhetoric that will not cause chaos but instead make people think
and act rationally. False propaganda has become a huge issue in modern world. Racial
tensions have increased and society is becoming polarised. People are choosing sides and
journalists will play a primary role in the shaping of the future.
The professional standards of ten journalists are often downplayed by those who are
power. It is the duty of the journalist to aspire for better standards at every point in their
career. To mould political views, different political and administrative agenda needs to be
understood. Details of their plans regarding the future needs to be thoroughly kept into
consideration. Journalists cannot be completely neutral in reality. Thus objectivity as a
standard norm has been defined by journalists as a primary objective that needs to be
aspired (Coddington, 2018). Apart from being objective it is also necessary to maintain
and objective world view in order to be specific in stories that can represent a larger
perspective. teamwork is key in order to understand different point of views and acquire a
subjective reasoning and understand that there is not a limited agenda in a report.
teamwork is key to achieve certain aspect of a story.
It is essential to have an efficient communication mediums between different renters
who are working on story. It is important to have a well structured team that is well
managed. Everyone should be clear about the role that they will play t create the best
possible version of a story that will include a diverse range of perspective (Deuze &
Witschge, 2018). Both the right and wrong sides of the story need to be identified.
Different societies have different cultures. They have different thinking thinking patterns
and act on their thoughts differently. Thus it is necessary to distinguish between relevant

news and gossip . it is necessary to implement the point of view of the reader or the
audience. In order to live up to the principles of journalism a journalist has to look
through the confines of political limits (Anderson, "Journalism as procedure, journalism
as values." Journalism 20.1, 2019). A master narrative has to adhere to the truth even if
the consequences may not be beneficial to the journalist himself. There is a certain moral
obligation that a journalist has to society. News is not a commodity that can be sold. Is
cannot be used for subjective manipulation but rather present information a purely
informative way.
It is important to understand the conec and background of any story and thus effective
measurement of the relevance of different aspects of the story and there are several
factors that needs to be understood in chronologized before understanding how a certain
perspective can lead to vast ramifications in a story this ramifications should be socially
relevant and encourage social change. there are no shortages of reporters who are corrupt
and do not adhere to the professional standards that need to be maintained. They
manipulate stories in favour of political agendas, create mass hysteria to sell their content
and, and depend on gossip to achieve success. Just like any other institution journalism
also has its problems rooted in the vices of human beings. Greed leads t corruption and as
an aspiring student of journalism i should avoid hypocrisy as a vice.
Historical context is essential in journalisms. Journalists shape political judgement in a
population and thus it essential to offer proper political history to the masses in order to
keep their point of up to date with the current political scenario. In a world where society
is deteriorating at a rapid pace it is essential to identify markers that may define the next
era of human civilisation (Benson, 2015). This markers need to be identified in proper
time and report with utmost precision so that the population can express their point of
view on a decision that will have a dramatic impact. Thus truthfully reporting anything
that may have a lasting consequence on society have to be understood.
The correct political, geographical and sociological context needs to be kept in mind
when generating a storyline. Journalism is a tool that can bring change to society. It is
essential to understand different point views thoroughly and identify both their positive
and negative aspects. There are different social stigmas that should be dealt with
sensitivities and understanding that they have a cultura basis (Foley, 2016). A journalist

needs to identify and explore different political agenda and dwell on the different
contexts of liberalism and conservatism. These subjects need to be dealt with great
concentration and studied in great detail in order understand how they stand different
from each other and how bridges can be built between conflicting points of view.
It is essential to avoid bias and an aggressive rhetoric. Insincerity needs to avoided at all
cost. The Role of journalism is also to help make the population make informed decisions
in national affairs. Thus national affairs need to be judged first. Thus it is important to
ask relevant questions to relevant sources and be ready with rebuttals in case there is a
tendency shown by the interviewee, of avoidance. Journalism has a revolutionary aspect
as the profession seeks the truth and hopes to spread it to the masses (Beckett & Deuze,
2016). Liberated journalism is essential in creating a government that is in check. It is the
job of the idea to become a bridge between those who hold political power and the rest of
the world. The primary objective of this profession is to hold the government accountable
to the people every decision that it takes. It is important for a journalist to understand
politics and its complex workings, its corruption and discrepancies.

As a human being bias is a pre programmed nation and one cannot avoid it completely
but in my chosen career path i need to be continuously aware of what i need to eliminate
before framing a narrative. The use of proper rhetoric will be essential in maintaining a
broad perspective and not being narrow minded (McIntyre & Gyldensted, 2018). There
should be no gaps in information and I will require training in sorting through

information and have the tightest possible version of any narrative. I understand that only
having an efficient communication skill will not propel me to success if every one of the
the narrative point of views are not acquired by me.

To become successful as a journalist it is essential to understand that there are multiple
perspectives that need to be acquired. More than any other profession it is essential grsp
the perspectives that guide people to actions (Ausserhofer, et al. 2017). To shape the
popular culture and political future is a great task that comes with great responsibilities.
But the rewards are worth the work that needs to be put in. to shape the future of
humanity is a task of great honour and there is no greater satisfaction than to dedicate a
life towards the welfare of society.
