Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to enlighten the reader about the work centred analysis approach on
the company Walmart. In the earlier stances it was noted that the company was not using point of
sales services in managing the sales at the store, however after making active use of innovative
technology in the business, the company initiated point of sale service in the environment.
Further, the paper is going to represent the assessment of WCA framework before and after the
implementation of digital disruption at Walmart (Libert, Beck, and Wind 2016). Further, it also
analyse effect of digital disruption on the business. Recommendations and implementation plan
are provided to the company to make effective use of technological disruption at Walmart and
grow. More details about the paper are discussed below:
Effect of Digital Disruption
Innovation and technology are two major aspects that can completely change the business
functions of an organization. Similarly, digital disruption refers to the change that occurs in the
business process when new and innovative digital technologies takes place in the model that
affects the value proposition of existing goods and services. The companies in the current
environment have started understanding the needs and importance of use of technology in the
business to gain competitive advantage in the market. Resulting in which, the company Walmart
also effectively utilized digital disruption to attain competence in the market and grow (Durand,
and Poizat 2015). Walmart is the largest retailer present in the worldwide market where the head
count of the employees is greater than that of several small countries (Appendices 1).
While Walmart is celebrating its success, other retailer organizations are struggling to maintain
their sales in the environment. Before the implementation of point of sale system, the company
used to perform all the task manually due to which a lot more calibre of employees was required
than expected. Earlier the employees of Walmart had created the bills manually, record them in
bill book and introspect with the inventory kept at the warehouse. It was difficult for the
management to manually count the entire inventory present at the warehouse and order more
quantity accordingly (Todorović, et. al., 2015).

However, with the implementation of point of sales system the company adequately changed the
business structure and improved efficiencies as well. The point of sale system helped the
business to initiate effective supply chain management system in such a way that manual work is
reduced and adequate links are created between different departments of the company. The POS
system helped the company to make use of technology to analyse the order quantity that is
required by the business along with analyse the quantity present with warehouse and align it with
sales as well (Rigby, et. al., 2012). The point of sales system helped the company to effectively
share the information and reduce the workload of employees as well. Introduction of digital
disruption in the business eliminated the paper work and made everything simple and smooth to
function. With the help of POS system, the company Walmart adequately obtained information
about the requirements of customers from the business along with demand and supply of goods
present in the overall industry. Through this system, the company gets learn that which product
is selling fast and which product has a slow rate so that would overstock the product (Gilbert
2015).
Recommendation
The fact should be noted that digital disruption is a positive as well as negative word that
involves the process of transforming the emerging digital technologies and the business model.
In the given case of Walmart, the company effectively utilized digital disruption to grow and
succeed in the market. However, there is still scope for the company to utilize the resources in
such a way that they attain success in the target market. The Point of Sales digital disruption
acted in a splendid way in favour of the growth of the company. However, the company can
make use of digital disruption in different ways in order to increase the productivity in the
environment (Evans, and Forth 2015). Further, below mentioned are the recommendations that
Walmart should make use of so as to attain progress in the target market:
Disruption in Supply Chain Management: Technology is the driver of digital disruption in the
environment that creates effectiveness for the business. The use of technology in disruption
provides opportunity to the business to create win-win situation in the environment. The
company Walmart should effectively make use of wearable and mobile technology along with
sensor and automatic identification to initiate effective point of sale system. The company should

provide chips cards or digital cards to the loyal customers to initiate sale. The customers should
also insert its thumb impression so as to given information to the company for the record
(Christensen, Raynor, and McDonald 2016). Through this card, the customer can gain additional
points on sales as well. This type of innovation will help the company to attain information about
the customers and provide them products and services according to their interest.
Disruption in Customer Segment: In the case of digital disruption, the company should also
make use of cloud computing and storage devices and robotics and automation. This type of
technological innovation will help the company to attract maximum customers in the functions
of the company. Clouding computing will effectively help the organization to store the details
about the suppliers and customers at an encrypted place which cannot be accessed by all the
outsider or insider of the organization (Bonnet 2016). Further, use of robotics and automation
will help the customers to invest more time in the store and it will also help the customers to find
out where the products are kept at the store and entertain them as well.
Connect Everything: More retailers are unaware of the IoT (Internet of Things) but it provides
high degree of value and opportunity to the companies in the environment. The company should
use internet of people (devices) to deliver timely marketing activities and services in the
environment. Further, internet of place will allow the retailer focus on the dark areas of retail
environment. By connecting all the functions of the business together, Walmart will gain the
advantage attain better efficiencies from the external environment (Harding, and Tager 2014).

The company Walmart should initially identify the right type of technological innovation that the
want to adhere in the business. Afterwards, the company should effectively make use of such
disruptions and align them with the business functions so as to mix the technological innovation
with the activities of the company and deliver it to the customers as well. The company need to
train the employees so as to reduce the impact of resistance to change and effectively deliver the
competence to the customers as well. Further, the company should follow the implementation
plan consistently for a year so that the disruption comes under the habit of the employees of the
company (Rogers 2016).
Conclusion
Thus, in the limelight of above mentioned events, the fact should be noted that the above
mentioned paper represented information about the Walmart Company. Work centred analysis is
a framework that elaborates activities of the company before and after the introduction of point
of sale digital disruption in the company. However, just like any other organization Walmart still
had the scope to develop the business functions in a better way. The recommendation and
implementation plan are provided to the company to increase its sales and use disruption in a
better way to grow.
