Executive Summary
Procurement is the heart and soul of any construction project. Various types
of procurements are used in the industry. Some of them are as old as the
construction industry itself while others are modern. The conventional
method is the traditional procurement while the modern method includes
management procurement and design and build procurements. Each of
these procurement methods have its own unique characteristics, advantages
and disadvantages. Also, they impact the stake holders different. The choice
of a procurement methods depends entirely on the clients taste and
preference and the situation of the construction project during the time of
execution.
Introduction
Procurement is the process by which materials and labor required to
facilitate the execution of a project are obtained. There are designated
methods of procurement that are guided by standard regulations and
practices. Some procurement methods have been in existence since time in
memorial while others have been developed recently. A procurement
method determines how effective and faster a project is executed (Vilasini,
Neitzert, and Rotimi, 2011). The objective of the paper is to present the
conventional and modern methods that are used in the construction
industry. Also, the paper presents the advantages, disadvantages,
