Selected project: Extensive data available in Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, and
how these data can be used to classify these data into smart reports that help in decision-making,
prioritizing and shaping the future emirates of Abu Dhabi in food safety and food security.
1.1 Project business case
The purpose of the project is to implement smart business system software as well as data
warehouse in terms of Information System to protect confidential information. The system help
Abu Dhabi food control Authority to build a data warehouse which include all information and
needful data. It can integrate, enhance and preserve the key accurate information across the
business organization. It also helps to provide a common data model for all types of data which
count regardless of the data sources and can add on values for business operation and all other
applications. In order to store the information Oracle database connectivity will be used to fetch,
insert and update key data in the database table. Oracle ERP system will be used to access
information stored in the database by running needful queries.
The Minister of State for Food Security released a roadmap for excellence technical
innovation driven food security in the Middle East. In order to improve the food security
performance the Abu Dhabi food control Authority has introduced certain tools and strategic
initiatives. The United Arab Emirates is bidding frequently to become world’s one of the top 10
food secure nations. It is determined that, extensive data are available in Abu Dhabi Food
Control Authority. Based on type and size, theses data can be classified and used in smart reports
so that the authority can take effective decisions for economic and commercial success.

Discrete data are available in the Abu Dhabi Food control Authority. However, managing
large set of data has become a major challenge to the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority. In
order to resolve this issue the food corporation authority has decided to design and develop an
Information System (IS) and data warehouse. It is identified that implementation of an
Information System and data warehouse will easily resolve all operational and functional
challenges. The Information System and data warehouse or smart reporting system will help the
authority to take effective decisions.
The project roadmap is dependent on some strong pillars such as building as well as food
data strategies, developing professional Research and Development (R&D) Strategies, nutritional
guidelines, regional trading environment and national food waste program that support regional
improvement in the improvement portfolio. The Food Control Authority was established in the
year of 2005 to make sure customer care with quality food delivery. In the year of 2009 the
Farmer’s service centre was established that offer technical agricultural services and technical
advice to the farmers.
1.2 Project selection criteria
This is not mandatory that every project will be successful in any business organization.
In order to implement any project successfully in the business organization it is mandatory for
the project manager and project team members to identify the possible project selection criteria.
Therefore, before selecting any project most of the project leaders consider all contingency that
may come up and use as a yardstick to select the project. The project sponsors are also needed to
get permission from the project manager before selecting the most suitable project for its
competitive advantages and commercial profit. The different project selection methods applied in
this project are as follows:

Cost benefit ratio: This method calculates the ratio of project investment and expected
benefit from the project. It is an effective way of communication that provides easily understable
terms to the project manager and project team members. It calculates the investment done for any
project and the net return value that may generate from the complete investment. A project that
needs $50,000 as their resource allocation cost must complete with an expected return value of
$100,000 after a certain time period.
Economic model: The economic model is referred to as a very simple benefit
measurement model which describes the difference between the invested cost and the possible
revenue generated from it. It gives a cleat representation on quantifiable benefit of a project as
soon as it completed. In other words it gives solid return that is actually expected from a project.
Payback period: The payback period is referred to as measurement technique which
calculates the time that would be required to get the invested value as a return.
Discounted cash flow: The discounted cash flow is referred to as a value that calculates a
return value may be generated after a certain point of time period. The concept helps the project
managers to translate the future earning into present days.
Net present value: The net present value helps to put the entire project development
lifecycle into project earning perspectives.
Among the above mentioned project selection criteria the project manager and project
team members for this project is require to choose the most suitable project select method. For
this project, payback Period is referred to as the most suitable project selection method. The

1.3 Project objectives
The objectives for the project are as follows:
To implement a data warehouse and smart business system in terms of
Information System (IS)
To discuss all the extensive data available in all sectors in Abu Dhabi Food
Control Authority and also identify how those data be used for smart reporting
system
To accomplish the IS implementation and data warehouse design and
development project within estimated timeframe of 125 days and within the
estimated budget of $65,000
1.4 Goals
Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority is facing major challenges due to availability of huge
discrete data in different sectors. Managing these data is becoming very much challenging these
days. The goal of the project is to build data warehouse which include each type of discrete data
and needful information. It has been assumed that, if the data warehouse is successfully
implemented then it would be able to integrate, increase and preserve all key accurate
information across Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority. The warehouse can merge all data from
multiple sources and successfully provide a common data source and add values for effective
operational business applications. The data warehouse can restructure all information that
provides excellent query tools even for complex analytic queries without giving any negative
impact to the Operating System (OS). Deactivated Operating System can also keep the data
history stored.

5PROJECT MANAGEMENT
The goal of the project is to identify the ways through which discrete data available in
different sectors can be used by the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority into smart reporting. The
smart reporting system needs to be designed in such a way so that it can take effective business
beneficial decisions and prioritization and future shaping. In order to develop the manual
reporting system to a smart one the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority require to implement
Information System and data warehouse for food security, safety and quality improvement.
1.5 Requirements
After analyzing the business case in details data warehouse or a business Intelligence can
be developed for successful programs. The data warehouse can be developed successfully on
solid business requirements. It helps to demonstrate the solution requirements in business terms.
Some steps are there required to be followed by the project managers of Abu Dhabi Food
Control Authority while developing data house system. The detail steps are as follows:
Determining the business objectives
Collecting and analyzing Information details
Identification of core business processes
Construction of conceptual data model
Locating data sources and planning for data transformation
Set tracking duration
Implementation of the plan
1.6 Preliminary project scope
Data warehousing business requirement demonstrate the needed solution in the business
terms. It helps to gather and manage all business requirements that include the following steps-
