PRODUCTIVE CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS
CHOUDHRY, R. M., 2015. ACHIEVING SAFETY AND PRODUCTIVITY IN
CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS.
JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING AND
MANAGEMENT, 23(2), pp. 311-318.
The author illustrated on the improvement of productivity and safety which are main factors to
be considered in the construction industries and was investigated by conducting a surveys. This
article demonstrated that there is possibility of enhancing safety and productivity in the
construction projects. The findings of the article generate knowledge on the safety practitioners
and project managers on construction projects to achieve productivity and safety. A new expert
system suggested in the study for the identification of suitable risk response strategy for risk
event based on factor of risk is the risk allocation and control number. The perfect response
action for a risk event is then identified through the same technique using scope expected
deviation index.
Daluwatte, L. & Ranasinghe, M., 2018. Effects of Inputs from the
Preconstruction Activities on the Design Phase of Construction Projects.
Engineer: Journal of the Institution of Engineers., 51(2), p. 31.
Authors of this article stated that the success of the project design depend on the inputs’
adequacy from the construction activities and it’s important to achieve design delivery and the
projects of construction. This article illustrated that identification of important preconstruction
activities is should be done to act as the inputs to the design of construction. It is recognized that
the construction industry always passes through two specific issues during the stage of
construction, namely overruns of project cost and slippages of the project schedule such as
overruns or project costs and time-frame. The proposes pre-construction methodology ensures
successful and smooth implementation during pre-construction activities of the project since they
are normally executed in cost-conscious, deadline-driven, and fast-pace environment.

Hoseini, E., Bosch-Rekveldt, M. & Hertogh, M., 2020. Cost Contingency and
Cost Evolvement of Construction Projects in the Preconstruction Phase.
Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, 146(6), p.
05020006.
This article discussed the methods of estimating cost and cost contingency in the construction
process. It discuss the evolvement of the total estimation of project cost during the
preconstruction phase of the construction in the real project of construction. This paper estimated
the total costs in the known and unknown contingency which has increased in the phase of
construction. This increase proposes that the project were not confident about their estimates and
the increase can be described by the phenomenon of pessimistic bias, organization culture, and
lack of experience. The article suggested further research into realizing the cost contingency after
the execution of the project.
Kärnä, S. & Junnonen, J.-M., 2016. Benchmarking construction industry,
company and project performance by participants’ evaluation.
Benchmarking: An International Journal, 23(7), pp. 2092-2108.
This article illustrated how the industry of construction requires the best way of gathering
information of performance about the industry and Individuals. Information of benchmarking
can be collected from the performance of the project's participants during the projects of
construction. Such benchmarking information can be gathered from the participants of the
project through evaluation of the performance of each other during the construction of the
project. This article presented methods of evaluating project of the company using benchmarking
tool. Different benchmarking allows the construction companies to evaluate their improvements
and performance daily. Benchmarking enables the company to position its performance with the
competitors to help in identifying black spots in the project level process.
