implementation of an information system in The Savoy Hotel. Information systems are essential
for technological innovation, which helps in improving performance. It is analyzed that the
information system directly impacts on the operations and business activities. The organization

Introduction
In an organization, the implementation of an information system helps in managing the process
of the business. It helps in providing the various benefits and makes the process and operations
of a business easier for the growth and development of the business. Every business requires the
implementation of an information system in a business function, which involves the adoption of
different types of information systems. It is necessary to adopt an effective information system
for the operations of the company. The processes of a business are managed with the help of
supply chain management, management information system, enterprise resource planning, and
many more. This report includes the implementation of an information system in the hospitality
industry. The mission of the industry is to acknowledge the priority of customers. They had
created the environment of the modern lifestyle by delivering heartfelt services to guests for
achieving the goals and objectives. The vision of the organization is to become the leading local
independent destination hotel chain in the UK, which offers unique products and excellent
services to customers. The savoy hotel has used the information system for improving the
systems. This report includes the issues and challenges which are faced in the current system,
and a proposal is provided for implementing the new information system. The latest information
system will be introduced, which will help in providing new business opportunities.
Issues in the information system
The information system includes the various approaches which are required to be managed with
the help of the system. For bringing the changes in the system the data and information are
required to be managed. Information technology is used by the organization for improving the
performance, which helps in improving the process. The current system, which is used in the
hotel, is business intelligence for managing the data and process of decision making. In a hotel, it
is necessary to manage the system as the process in hospitality requires technological innovation
and advancement in the process (Chathoth, 2010). Customers are required to be satisfied with the
services. A management information system is considered the computer-based system, which
helps the managers in providing the tools for organizing. Evaluating and efficiently managing the
departments. It is required for proving the past, present, and prediction information. MIS
includes the software which helps in making a decision, managing databases, hardware
resources, decision support systems, managing people, and projects. Currently, the manual

system may lead to erroneous management. In the hotel system, reservation is considered the
most crucial, which requires an effective system. Management information system helps the
manager in computerizing the information and making effective decisions. MIS provides the
tools to the front office manager for making effective decisions for allocating rooms and
reserving the rooms for group customers. The information system plays a crucial role in
facilitating the planning, management, and overall operations of the hotels. Hotels are required
to deliver the services and solutions which should be focused on the customer’s needs and should
emphasize to serve the customers in an effective way (Christauskas and Misevičienė, 2012). In
the Savoy hotel, the need is to integrate the disciplines for providing the solutions and services
for business integration, system integration, and development of applications, information
technology, and infrastructure services. Hotel Savoy is a luxurious 5-star hotel in the UK,
London, which is known for its distinctive interior and design.
In hospitality, it is necessary to consider ethics in the workplace. It requires improving the rules
and regulations for enhancing the security of the information system with the help of ethical
consideration. The code of ethics helps in enhancing the security data and information of the
organization. It helps in improving service quality to attract and retaining customers. IS systems
are used for managing the different processes of the business. IS systems are required for
integrating a large amount of information for the various business functions which require to
integrate structured and unstructured data. For the customer’s information and data, it is
necessary to keep a high level of security for sensitive information. Data management is
considered an issue that includes a large amount of data for storing the database, warehousing,
and data centers (Matende and Ogao, 2013). An organization must have a proper IT
infrastructure for storing the information. Accessing data is necessary for providing better
services to customers. The security of data is essential for storing safety for the future. The
advanced system will be beneficial for data management in the systems. The savoy hotel is
required the MIS to improve the performance, and investment is needed on research and
development for overcoming the issues in the system.
Improvement in the existing system
In the emerging technologies, the new system is required for improving the performance and
productivity of the organization. The legacy system at the workplace reduced the performance

and productivity of the business. It is necessary for improving the basic services of the existing
system. In order to satisfy the customers’ needs with new technologies and fast responses to their
requests. New hardware and software tools are required for improving the efficiency of the
system. Business intelligence is used for improving performance. The new management system
is updated for securing the information and data. For controlling the information system, the
management is required to have control over the governance, technical, general, prevention,
detective, and corrective controls in the business (Melián-González, et al., 2016).
The transaction processing system in the hotel is an effective system that includes the collection,
modification, and retrieval of the transactions. It is also known as real-time processing. It
contains the characteristics of performance, reliability, consistency, integrity of data, and it is
easy to use the system. Management information system helps in enabling the online booking
and automating the data entry method. In the hotel, it requires for ensuring efficient and reliable
communication (Liping, 2011).
In the hotel, the functional areas of MIS include the food and beverages, front and back office,
securities, maintenance as well as financials and accounting. This system includes the property
management system, which is effective, comprehensive software that helps in coordinating with
the operational functions of the front office, sales, and planning. It helps in automating functions
like guest booking, details of guests, online reservation, accounting, sales, and marketing. This
system helps the guests in making the reservation automatically. It enables the staff to maintain
the facilities of guests. It is necessary to maintain the financial transactions of guests and to
secure the information for building the trust of customers (Turner and Weickgenannt, 2010).
In the savoy hotel, the implementation of a management information system will help in
providing a large element of control in the system. Standards will be set, which will be related to
securing the system for gaining the wide acceptance for leading in technology. It is analyzed that
the management information system is required for supporting and controlling business
activities. The application in MIS in different department requires the adoption of new standards
for developing purchasing. The strategy is required to be implemented for a global perspective. It
helps in making the system easily enabling and accessing the files of guests quickly. The data
management facilities are provided in a better way and enable the online booking of guests. The
management information system will help the top management in evaluating the performance of
the employees for ensuring maximum productivity and dealing with the customer. This system

(Zeng, et al., 2012).
Feasibility study
In this case, the feasibility study is done for determining the benefits of the existing system and
the proposed management information system for managing the information and data. This
includes the economic, technical and schedule feasibility study. It is analyzed that the
management information system helps in providing the various benefits and more profits. In the
case of the technical feasibility study, the system is easy to maintain for managing the technical
staff. The structure of the system is easy for modifying to meet the needs and maintaining
competence in the market. Scheduling feasibility is the system development process for meeting
the deadline which is provided by the team of the hotel management (Nickols, 2016).
An information system is needed for meeting the management, employees, and needs of the
customers for the process of data collection. In the implementation of the hotel management
system, the integration of various systems are required which includes the front office system,
customer relationship management system, supply chain management system as well as decision
support system. A management information system is beneficial for all the business functions in
the hotel which includes marketing, finance, management, and human resource. MIS is effective
for marketing as it helps in keeping the information and analyzing the performance for the
process of marketing, selling and purchasing the products for the satisfaction of the customers.
For the finances of the company, the management information system will help the company in
analyzing the profits and losses (Laudon and Laudon, 2016). The salary of the staff can be
maintained with the help of MIS. The sales and marketing of the organization will be supported
with the help of MIS by executing and tracking the effectiveness of the business which includes
the developing the business, forecasting sales, managing the channels of distribution, pricing,
offers and discounts to the customer and implementing the effective sales promotion and
advertising for attracting the customers. With the help of MIS, the main benefits will be given in
finance and accounting business functions as it will help in tracking the assets and investments of
the organization. it will help in compiling the financial information and data which is required
for the law for functions like payroll, federal, local taxes and pension funds of employees. MIS
will help in providing the reports on time to the management for making financial decisions. MIS
helps in managing the details of human resource which helps in recording and tracking the

employee’s details and recruiting. MIS helps in tracking the financial elements of human
resources (Laudon and Laudon, 2015). MIS is responsible for streamlining the communication
between the employees and managers for analyzing the HR policies, legal compliances and
organizing the training and events. It will help the management in automating the timekeeping of
employees, tracking the work attendance as well as maintaining the balances of leave without the
involvement of managers.
In MIS, the organization level which is required to be considered are the strategic, management
and operation. In the savoy hotel, the level of the organization includes the executive support
system, management information system, and transaction support system. At the different levels
of the organization, the transactions occur in the executive support system, which helps the
management in making effective decisions. It helps in serving the strategic level of the business
and designed for incorporating the data from external events like competitors. For the middle
level of the management, MIS and decision support system helps in providing the sales
management reports, analysis of sales, controlling inventory, production scheduling, preparing
budgets, analysis of profitability, and managing the cost analysis (Hendriks, 2013).
New information system
In an organization, the implementation of the new information system is beneficial, which
includes cloud computing for managing the information and data. In order to improve the
performance, the management is required to adopt artificial intelligence, which provides the
emerging technology benefits with the help of integrating technological innovation. IS is
implemented for improving outcomes and productivity. Management information system helps
in bringing the many opportunities in business by managing the process and operations. It
includes the management of the different business functions, and in the Savoy hotel, the
management is essential for the satisfaction of customers by providing effective services to them
(Huh, et al., 2009). MIS also helps in reducing the work of employees as all the repetitive work
is done by the systems and reduces the efforts of humans. It is analyzed that the MIS is helpful
for providing effective services to employees and making fair decisions for employees, and their
performance is measured according to their availability at the workplace. The staff of the hotel is
required to deal directly with the customers, so it is necessary to provide the training to

advantages as it helps in showing the system charts as, with the help of information technology,
it helps in collecting and communicating the information for the operations. In the hotel, the
management reporting system is beneficial as it includes the database designing for preparing the
reports on the finances and operations at each level of the management. This system is used by
middle-level managers for generating reports and comparing it with a past financial performance,
which helps in determining the financial growth in the market and tracking the performance of
the managers (Kissel, et al., 2010). The data is used by the top management for comparing the
current position and its efficiency, which helps in determining the goals of the organization. In
the case of process control, the system helps in monitoring and collecting the data for regularly
generating the performance of the system. The information is considered as key for tracking the
overall efficiency of the production as well as safety at the workplace (ALsarayreh, et al., 2011).
MIS software helps in improving productivity and also helps in achieving a high level of
efficiency with the help of strengths and weaknesses. It helps in improving the quality of the
decisions as past information is available, which helps in reducing the uncertainties, and
managers are able to make more effective decisions. MIS helps the employees to work more
effectively, and the input of employees is not required for gathering the information as MIS helps
in providing all the required information and data for further processing. It helps in strengthening
the competitive advantage by bringing the creative and innovative method of doing business
(Kateb, et al., 2015). With the help of a management information system, the management is able
to improve the customer’s services and designing effective marketing and promotional
campaigns.

In the Savoy hotel, the information system is required for improving growth and providing
opportunities. The various opportunities are available for the organization, which helps in
providing the new areas of business. It helps in implementing the new services for the customers
and which is beneficial for attracting and retaining the customers on a large scale. For the growth

improving the capabilities. The computer reservation system is considered as a computerized
system for storing and retrieving the information and conducting transactions which are related
to the hotel booking (Berezina, et al., 2012). The global distribution system is also an
opportunity for growth and development, and it helps in creating business opportunities. Hotel is
required to maintain the records of guests and employees and which is possible with the help of
MIS. The updated records help in generating bills for the customers.
System development life cycle
In the management information system, the software is considered as the major component,
which includes packages like spreadsheets, programs, applications, and databases. It includes the
process of planning, creating, testing, and deploying the information system. SDLC is important
is producing a high-quality information system for meeting and exceeding the expectations in the
estimated time and cost. It includes the waterfall model, which includes the five stages are
requirement analysis, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance (Galliers
and Leidner, 2014).
Requirement analysis
In the organization, the new system is required for developing the system for managing the
information, which is essential for the satisfaction of the customers. The savoy hotel is required
the information system for managing the technologies. Requirement analysis is considered as a
huge process for identifying the requirement which is required to be managed in the system
(Banarjee, et al., 2018).

Implementation
The implementation of the new system requires the international framework. The
implementation phase requires the various tools and techniques, which include the testing as it is
a necessary activity for improving and analyzing the performance.
Evolution
The new system requires the evaluation, which is based on the various factors of the
management information system. It helps in providing the various benefits to the company for
satisfaction. The system is required to be managed for effectively implementing. Evaluation
helps in measuring the performance for making a better system to manage the data and
information (O'Brien and Marakas, 2016).
A computerized system is developed with the help of the system development life cycle. SDLC
is a process that is used by a systems analyst for developing the information system as it includes
the requirements, validations, training, and ownership of users. It is necessary that the SDLC
should be of a High-quality system for meeting the customer’s requirement and completing the
task on time within the estimated costs (Reddy, et al., 2009). It is considered as an important
phrase which is essential for developers for planning, analyzing, designing, and implementing
the system.
A management information system is required for managing the staff and facilities in a proper
way. It helps in effectively analyzing and facilitating operational and strategic activities, and it
will be effective for security, housekeeping, maintenance, and controlling finances and
accounting. The various risks are associated with the implementation of a new system as it
includes the management of the project, which should be effective. In the implementation of IS,
the organization is required to execute the project successfully. The various software and
hardware are required to be managed. The risks management is essential as the system also

requires the changes, and risks are associated with managing the changes. Ethical consideration
is required to be considered for implementing the information system (Zissis and Lekkas, 2012).
Conclusion
To conclude, it is analyzed that the management information system is important for the growth
and development of the organization. In the hotel, MIS is necessary for security and safety and
keeping information security for the future. This report included the system, which is beneficial
for reservation management, and it provides the benefits to managers to make strategic decision
making. The process of reservation is provided for the search capabilities and in the hospitality,
reservation, and locating the rooms to customers. It is considered an important element for the
system, which helps the managers at the front office and allocating the rooms to customers. It is
necessary to provide the reservation to customers on a fairly basic and giving effective services.
The effective use of MIS data helps in leading to improve the performance of departments as it
also helps in increasing the efficiency in the hotel. This report included the requirement of MIS
in the Savoy hotel for solving the issues of the existing system and improving the performance.
ERP system is considered as beneficial for managing the data and information in an effective
manner.
