Abstract
Psychological Disorders are a very common thing in the present day. People suffer
from anxiety disorders, which is considered to be a typical form of psychological disorder in
the human beings. The main causes of the anxiety disorders as have been mentioned by the
experts is because of the reasons of mood disorders which is suffered by them. To explain the
causes and the treatment of the anxiety disorders in the human beings, this essay will choose
a character form a book, movie or television show who suffers from the same kind of
problems and find out what caused the problems of anxiety disorder and how the individual
sought out treatment for the disorder which he faced. The essay will also explain the fact that
whether the treatment managed to cure the individual of the disorder or not.

Anxiety Disorders are one of the most typical types of the psychological disorders
which are found to be among human beings in the present day. With the increasing amount of
pressure in the field of work in the present times, it is only natural that people might succumb
to the problems of anxiety disorders. Experts claim the main cause of the anxiety disorder in
the people is the environmental stress which they face as well as those of the genes and the
changes in the brain. It is seen that the there are many characters in the books, movies and
television shows who suffer from the same problems of anxiety disorders themselves. The
essay will discuss one such character by the name of Rachael Watson, the protagonist in the
novel and the movie “The Girl on the Train” by Paula Hawkins.
The purpose of this essay is to find out about the anxiety disorder which the
character of Rachael Watson suffers in the book and the movie “The Girl on the
Train.”
Before the readers start to analyse the anxiety disorders faced by the character of
Rachael Watson, it is important to know about the background of the character. Rachael
Watson is the protagonist of the psycho-thriller novel “The Girl on the Train” written by
British author Paula Hawkins (Rodriguez, 2017). The book tells the story of the protagonist, a
depressed divorcee, who one day notices something while travelling by train that changes her
entire life.
Rachael Watson suffers from the problem of the anxiety disorder, which is evidenced
to the readers of the book in the way she behaves. The book tells the readers that she displays
alcoholism which results in her losing her baby and loses her memory. Moreover, she
displays the feelings of being afraid, guilty, worry and panic, all of which are symptoms
which poins to the problems of anxiety disorder in her (Hawkins, 2017). Hence, it can be said
that the character indeed suffers from the problem of anxiety disorder herself.
