PSYCHOLOGY 2 Chapter 12: Social Psychology Question 1 Fundamental Attribution Error is the tendency where a person is judged in an unpleasant manner attributing the person’s behavior to internal factors and explanations as we fail to consider the circumstances that lead to such a behavior. When we were young, there was this girl who used to urinate on herself in school every time. All children would laugh at her as we thought she wanted to do it but little did we know that her bladder had a problem. Question 2 The way attitude influences action depends on processing level that is through self perception or cognitive dissonance. Question 2a Those passengers who board last and don’t have companions to sit with are forced to sit there with no luggage thus forcing them to pay an extra fee for any luggage they had. Question 2b Cognitive dissonance is where conflicting attitude, behavior or belief produce discomfort of feelings thus leading to alteration so as to be able to minimize any discomfort and ensure there is balance. Question b1 The students who were paid $ 20 found the task interesting as there was no dissonance as being paid $ 1 was not enough incentive to lie and the way to overcome their dissonance was to lie that the experiment was interesting.
PSYCHOLOGY 3 Question b2 The group that did not haze new students was found to be committed to the fraternity as they did not have any dissonance conflicting behavior while in college. Therefore, they did not have to lie about anything. Question 3 The 5thboy behaved the same way the other boys who were before him did. He just stands up like them, walks slowly to the outside of tent and stands first but falls down like the rest but he is sure to do it without hurting himself. Question 4 Social facilitation is the improvement of performance of an individual when working in a group. Social loafing is where a person shows less effort to achieve goals when doing group work while group think arises from a group of people who wants harmony. As a group leader, one should ensure that every individual shows improved results when working together by ensuring all members participate equally, maintain peace and harmony.
PSYCHOLOGY 4 Chapter 11: Personality Question 1 Last weekend Mark visited a children’s home. He helped the children do laundry and he was seen being conscientiousness. He did not like children hurting happened therefore he was agreeableness. When he saw a couple walking together holding their hands and laughing he became neurotic. One person noticed his behavior and decided to talk to him but he refused to talk about himself. He suddenly changed the topic. He was extraverted and seemed weak. Question 2 Awarding every child is a good practice as it boosts every child’s self esteem. It is a self object to a child as they are normal part of development in their lives. Children require such awards to help them in their development. Question 3 My culture is equally individualistic and collectivist. I have therefore learnt to respect people from different races and religion. It has also taught me to be a strong business person.
