Purpose of the assessment task:
This assessment task is designed to evaluate student’s following skills and
abilities:
Skills to assess current workloads, and schedule work to maximise
efficiency and customer service quality within budget constraints.
Skills to monitor efficiency and service levels through close contact with
day-to-day operations.
Skills to monitor team and individual performance against agreed goals
and objectives.
Skills to proactively consult with colleagues about ways to improve
efficiency and service levels, including potential for new technologies and
other innovations
Skills to Identify quality problems and issues and make appropriate
adjustments to procedures and systems, with relevant approvals.
Reading skills to interpret varied and wide-ranging information of an
operational nature.
Numeracy skills to develop schedules and timelines for team activities.
Skills to Provide feedback, coaching and support to team members.
Skills to monitor and respond to team-based operational and service
issues during the above operation or activity.
Problem solving skills to anticipate and respond to unpredictable
operational problems and situations at a frontline management level.
Planning and organising skills to coordinate multiple and potentially
competing operational priorities
Skills to complete organisational records for work operations or activities.
Skills to answer the questions asked by the audience/trainer and assessor.
Skills to proactively share information, knowledge and experiences with
team members.

Assessment Task 2 – Role Play
Instructions to complete this assessment task:
Role plays provide students with the opportunity to take part in activities
which mirror real life career-related scenarios.
During the role play, the assessor will be looking for:
o Appropriate interaction, body language and communication skills
o The student’s ability to establish rapport and defuse potentially
difficult situations
o The ability to understand, interpret and answer the questions
appropriately.
o Suitably documenting and presenting the topics to audience.
o The student meet the requirements of the unit of competency or
performance criteria mentioned in the assessment task.

Assessment task Instructions:
This assessment task requires you to assume/ take on the role of an
operational manager at ABC hotel.
You need to perform two (2) activities in this task.
You must monitor and improve workplace operations in the restaurant.
You must plan and organise workflow for team members and effective
operations.
You must monitor and support team members in this task.
You must solve problems and make decisions for the difficult situations in
order to complete this task.
Your assessor/trainer will assess your performance as per the performance
criteria and checklist provided.
Task:
You are currently employed as an operational manager at ABC restaurant. Your
main responsibilities are to monitor workplace operations in day to day
inspections and provide training to staff members in order to maintain safe and
secure workplace for everyone. In this assessment task, you are required to
monitor work operations in your organisation by planning and organising
operational activities with consultation of team members and management. Your
assessor/trainer will act as senior manager and other colleagues will work as
your team members. If there are insufficient numbers of students in your class
then your assessor/trainer will act in multiple roles.
Activity 1:
RP 1: In your workplace, there is an event on Saturday evening, your
management has given you the responsibility to handle the work
operations on that day. You need to plan and organise the workflow of

workplace operations according to organisational policies and procedures.
You need to check and assess current workloads and schedule work to
maximise efficiency and customer service quality in event within budget
constraints. You checked the roster of staff for this event. There are total
ten employees who are working in this restaurant and there are only six
staff members on roster who will be working on Saturday evening. You
observed that there are not enough staff members for this event. You need
to adjust the rostering requirements. Following are the staff roster for the
event in your restaurant from 6pm to 12 pm:

enough staff members for the event. They told you that Elicia and John are on
medical leave as they worked very hard last week for different occasions.
Melisa and Tom are not happy to work on weekends, so they took off on
Saturday evening. But as you need more staff in the event you need to send
an email to management and supervisor that you need at least two staff
members more on that event. They called Melisa and tom for Saturday shift.
You need to make a new roster for this event by using following template.
Delegate task and responsibilities for each team member based on their
levels and skills profiles and principles of effective delegation and delegation
techniques. After making this roster get approval from your management.

You need to plan and organise workflow for a team activities and operations
in order to maximise the efficiency of the operations and staff performance.

the event, the latter would
need to be first in line in
getting ready for the service
rush. Furthermore, the
latter would use help from
the part of Tom who has
had considerable
experience as an amateur
home cook. The latter
delegation has been
thought of due to the
pressure that the kitchen
will be subject to during the
event. Moreover, Prince
needs to prepare ideas for a
special item on the menu
that will be served on the
day of the event. The
special items that is to be
prepared would be an
Indian curry dish and Riya
