Question answer from case study
Question 6 Using the University of Michigan leadership style model, was Jobs or Cook job
centered or employee centered?
From the case study analysis, we can say that the previous CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs, was a Job
centered leader. It can be easily known from the case study that Steve Jobs was not only
concerned with the tasks that which had to be accomplished as part of the goals of organization,
but also a very strict leader. He always aimed for innovative results. He was focused to develop
devices that were sleek & innovative in technology. He aimed for such devices that were easy to
use, leveraging high end technology. On the other side, the new CEO Tim Cook is considered to
be an employee centered leader in Apple Inc. However, he also expects results and measures the
success in numbers rather than efforts. Both leaders were result oriented and somewhere they
were disregarding the hard work that goes behind in achieving those results. There are some
incidents that relate to Steve Jobs’ characteristics. When Apple Maps application was released
for iPhone, it did not work as per the expectations (in comparison to Google Maps) and due to
this, he had fired all the low level employees involved in the application development of that
app.
Question 10 Is Tim Cook considered a transformational or transactional leader?
Tim cook is a transactional leader but there are certain instances where we can say that he has the
ability to develop the characteristics of a transformational leader (CUL Croopini, 2017).
