Open source software uses to manage different works, which are related to
personal and professional life. Our group performance is better than other group
member is, as we guided other groups in few cases. We had work as a team to
complete that assignment with good quality of research and knowledge about the
open source technology. I learnt about open source softwares from different online
and off-line sources. There are many advantages of open source softwares. I learnt
about many open softwares, which are used at different places, such as business,
technology, education, social purposes, research, and many others.
In my assignment one, I provided annotated bibliography of different online
resources in which website, book and journal has included. I surfed many websites
to know about the open source softwares. After many research, I got
opensource.com, which has provided details about the role of open source tools for
research. I found that open source alternatives are better because of less cost, free
of charge, modifiable, adjustable and many others. Open source alternatives are
better than closed-source commercial projects ( Offerman, 2012).
According to (Bonaccorsi, 2003), open source software are more successful
because of their open access and user can modify their source codes as per their
requirements at a limit. Open source software is almost free of cost as compared to
closed-source softwares. I learnt from (Marder , 2017) that ERP softwares require
huge cost to implement, but open source ERP are available free of cost for limited
users.
I learnt about knowledge loss in open source software projects from journals
and online contents. Individual contribution is important and pen source technology
is shared contribution of all the persons, which are attached with project, while
others are not shared such types of information. Everyone is having an important
part in the whole projects and individual gain experience and develop skills from
different projects.
I learnt that open source software could be used in the developing and
managing embedded systems and products. I learnt about general licensing

arrangement of open source software. I learnt that open source softwares has
general public license (GPL), which make secure many things of companies as well
as individual knowledge. Open soured software has proper license to use for
different applications.
I learnt about open source softwares uses and its benefits for users. There
are many benefits of open softwares, which are free of cost or almost nothing as
compared to closed-source softwares. There are many restrictions in closed-source
systems, such as limited time, limited users, high cost, and many other things.
I learnt about the open source software development and licensing for usages
in projects development. According to ( Walli, 2013), individual can know about the
licensing of opens source softwares and its benefits for project development and
management. Licensing is necessary processes to give credit to individual, who
share his knowledge to develop new software. It is free of cost but after a limit, it is
chargeable. Therefore, many users are not used it.
According to (Opensource, 2018), open source organizations are highly
famous and popular because of their new concept and it is adopted by many other
organizations. Knowledge sharing is a good thing for innovations. I learnt that to get
credit for individual work, people work hard. Therefore, open source softwares are
highly used from last two decades based on many surveys.
I learnt that many new types of software are freely available for individual as
well as companies, such as ERP, operating systems, open source softwares, and
many more. ERP softwares are freely available to manage different operations of a
company, such as production, manufacturing, finance, sales and marketing, and
many more (Opensource.com, 2018).
According to (Saltis, 2018), there are many benefits of open source
softwares, as compared to closed-source softwares. I learnt that open source
softwares could be modified to use for particular work. It can be a part of
individual’s research and they can manage their works with the help of open source
softwares.
