Leadership within health care plays significant role as it support in rendering quality care
services to different service users of health care (Currie and Lockett, 2011). With the proper
leadership care practitioners and senior manager can easily direct their staff as well as care
worker towards performing proper services so that patient may easily get recover. This section
focuses on the self reflection of an individual with the help of using Gibbs reflective cycle of the
incident that they have experienced in practice where leadership skills have had an impact on the
situation. Along with this, reflection also showcase the experience and determine how leadership
theory would enable them to gain the learning.
Reflective account using contemporary model Gibbs reflective cycle
It has been assessed that reflection plays significant role within the health care as it
supports me in reflecting practices that are performed by the senior doctors within the care
organization to the different patients and service users. While working in the ward unit within the
local hospital in the UK region. I have determine that is is essential to use the effective
communication and inter personal skills within the hospital so that I can easily communicate
with the patients. With the help of Gibbs reflective cycle I can easily acquire the information
regarding the opportunities that would amend my care practices.
Gibbs reflective cycle is an effective tool that is used by different health care
professionals as well as individual those who are in the leadership position to support the
practitioners in reflection. With the help of using this reflective model it mainly involve in
learning activities and amending their role within the health care (Pearson, 2012). In addition to
this, it has been also stated that with the help of this individual can easily demonstrate their
practices and activities within the hospital that directly assists in safeguarding the service users
health and well being. On the other hand, it has been also assessed that with the help of this
reflective cycle I can easily engage in the development of nursing and enabling the proper
planning so that I can easily ensure the safety of service users within the health car environment.
Along with this reflective cycle would also contribute the individual in shaping their health care
policies so that they can easily maintain the activities within the hospital. This focuses on

74 year old man was shifted from emergency department to the ward and he was in the
continuous pain suffering from retention of urine. The old man met with an accident and has
injured his right leg. As, my duty there was to change the dressing of the old man and I was also
in-charge of doing his routine activities and work. While, communicating with the patient I
maintain soft tone and have constant smile on my face so that I patient may not get hurt. With the
consent of the service users within the hospital I assist them in maintaining hygiene by allowing
proper care and treatment. Therefore, with the proper cooperation of patient I was successfully
able to render quality service related with changing the dressing of his leg.
Feelings
Through describing the scenario within the local hospital I have encountered with the
different feelings and emotion. During the initial phase when patient was shifted from the
emergency department in the ward the staff did not articulate the positive image of the patient
(Davies, 2012). I was feeling that patient would be so aggressive towards me and would be
demanding. But after communicating with the patient and delivering care services to them I have
changed my perception towards the individual. Accordant with the norms of professional
conduct it is required the nurse within the hospital must confined towards maintaining the respect
and treat the patient in proper manner. The patient was not been given the wheelchair therefore
he was housebound within the bed. Therefore, this made him aggressive.
Evaluation
With the help of assessing feeling it was evaluated that professional staff within the
hospital has not performed their activities in the proper manner as well as they have ignored
maintaining patient dignity (Stonehouse, 2011). Along with this, I have also experienced some
positive and negative about the situation that is I have learnt that it is required to maintain the
respect and dignity of the patients while delivering the care so that all the requirement of service
users can be met easily. On the other hand, I have also evaluated bad experience from the
situation that I have judged the patient through the information provided by the nurse within the
hospital.
Analysis
From the above steps it is analysed that communication plays significant role within the
health care organization as it support the health care practitioners in communicating with the

patient regarding their care requirement (Cavanagh, Masson and McDowell, 2011). Within the
NHS most of the compliant are related with the ineffective and poor communication. Therefore, I
would focus on amending and improving the communication aspects so that I can effectively
render services to the different patients within the hospital. Along with this, I was also analyse
that barriers or obstacle in the communication was due to aggressive behaviour of the old people.
Action plan
With the help of using reflective model it has supported me understanding the different
situation and it also support me in acknowledging how could I implement the learning into action
so that it might results in the effective services. In the circumstances if this type of situation
occurs within the hospital I would not believe on the information provided by the staff rather I
would personally treat the service users and gain knowledge regarding their actions and
behaviour. Along with this, I would also make plan regarding improving and amending the skills
related with interpersonal skills that support me in rendering quality care and services to the
service users.
Conclusion
Therefore, the last step is conclusion that focuses on the overall environment of the health
care that ensure I am effective in managing the situation that occurred in the hospital. It is also
seen that care worker plays significant role within the health care as it support in communicating
with the service users so that they might assist in rendering quality treatment and services to
them. Through the reflection I have also learnt that for rendering care and medical treatment
communication plays pivotal role.
Leadership impact on the situation
The leadership has positively impact the situation that often arises within the local
hospital of UK. For instance, in the local hospital conflict arises in the situation when I was
treating the female patient with the infectious diseases. It was my prime responsibility to
maintain the dignity and privacy of the service users that have infectious diseases. In this
situation conflict arises among me and the family members as patient was not feeling
comfortable and she was also isolated within the ward (Saint, Kowalski and Krein, 2010). In
such situation leader or manager within the health care must focuses on the autocratic leadership
style that is they must punish as I have violated the rule or principle of the health and social care.

Therefore, in this situation leadership would positively impact in overcoming the situation in the
future scenario.
Along with this I have also assessed that transformational leadership has also positively
impact the health care as it support me in resisting the change within the health care procedure
and policies so that I can easily render the quality care treatment and services to the different
diseases patients. On the other hand, I have also measured that leadership also impact the
situation that often arises in the situation. Along with this, I have also assessed that leadership
has also impacted in changing my behaviour towards the patient as there are different attitude
and behaviour patients existing in the health care so I must understand behaviour of each and
every patient to render quality care and treatment.
Along with this, I have also assessed that with the effective leadership style I can easily
attempt to make effective business decisions for the health care that support in rendering quality
care treatment and services to different diseases patients. It has been also assessed that effective
leadership also impact my activities and influences my behaviour towards the activities of the
health care. Moreover, the situation arises within the health care that is related with giving
improper treatment and medication to the patient. In this situation the leader would aggressively
outcome in giving penalty to me for my negligent activity within the premises (Martin and
Learmonth, 2012). I have also reviewed that the key advantage that comes with implementing
the effective leadership style is that it results in arising minimum clashes. I and the other
followers are extremely mitigated by the actions and judgement of the leader that is effective for
me to rendering proper services. Health care organization requires the cited leadership style
within the critical circumstances that would results in breaking the spirit as well as principle of

also stated that impact of transformational leaders is that it focuses on unite and authorise their
subordinates which would definitely assist me in strengthening and influencing their attitudes
and attributes within the health care.
Outcome of leadership experience within the health care
In order to successfully measure the leadership within the health care I have assessed that
it plays significant and positive role in the following manner that is the outcome of leadership
experience results in successfully implementing the change within themselves or within the

hospital (Weberg, 2010). As, it support me in rendering quality care and treatment. Along with
this, with the change in behaviour and values of the patient I must change the leadership style so
that I can easily render the medical services to the patient. With the change in leadership style
that is adopting participative style I can easily allow the patient to suggest their thoughts and
views related with the care services that they requires so that I can easily assess and renders the
services. Along with this, with participative leadership experience within the health care I would
also resist the change within the activities.
Along with this, another outcome of the transformational leadership within the hospital is
that if reduces and overcome my stress level. As, transformational leadership indicates
influencing and directing the staff and care workers to attain the stated vision and objectives.
Therefore, this experience would positively outcome in the managing the stress level as there are
different behaviour patient within the hospital that need to be handled by me. With the help of
gaining leadership experience I must feel committed and motivated towards the hospital that
support me in addressing all the problems and issues faced by the service users and also results
in delivering quality health care services to them. Along with this, it has been also outcome that
with the participative leadership style I can easily communicate with the senior authority
personnel regarding the patient so that I can easily manage my stress level within the health care
provisions. In addition to this, with the transformational leadership within the health care senior
level personnel motivate me beyond my expectation so that I can easily manage my stress level
and influences attitude towards the service users that assists me in reducing the level of
complexity within the workplace.
Whereas, with the different leadership in the health care it benefit me in enhancing my
skills related with taking an effective decisions within the care unit. Transformational leadership
experience assists me in gaining the learning as well as knowledge regarding the services and
activities that need to be rendered within the health care. Along with this, effective leadership
activities has also supported me reviewing and allowing the service users to put forward their
views and thoughts in the care unit so that they may deliver the required services to the service
users. In addition to this, another outcome of the leadership experience within the health care
unit is that it support in making proper decisions that would benefit the service users in gaining
proper health care services.

Although with the leadership experience within the health care also assists me in building
team building skills that support in formulating multi-disciplinary team within the health care
that deals in rendering adequate services to the patients. Along with this, it is also assessed that
with the effective leadership within the care unit it focuses on proper leading and guidance that
support the individual in building their team and unit in the health and social care.
with the transformational leadership is ideal within the healthcare organisations as it
concern with the communication levels and motivation. I have also assessed that most of the
scheme within the unit get fail due to ineffective or lack of the communication process. If the
goals and objectives of business organization are framed properly and the team or a group are not
versed then followers won't be awake regarding the procedure that has to be modified for that
situation in the care unit.
Along with this, it has also assessed that local hospital within the UK region mainly faces
challenge related with nurturing the culture so that it may ensure continuous delivery of the care
treatment and services to the patients. Working as care worker in the local hospital I have come
assessed that leadership factor within the organization is regarded as an influential aspect that
shapes the culture of local hospital so that care practitioners behaviour and qualities easily get
amended. In addition to this, I have also assessed that there is link among the leadership and
activities of the service provider as it outcome in satisfying the patients, lower the morality of
service users within the hospital, engagement of the employees, lower the rate of absenteeism as
well as it also ensure engaging in delivering quality of care.
How leadership theory will enable them to learn from the experience and change their action
With the different leadership theories such as situational, transformational and
behavioural leadership theory it has been assessed that all these theories would support me in
learning and gaining different experience. The learning and acquired experience would support
me in changing and modifying my actions accordant with the requirement. The foremost
leadership style is transformational style that indicates that leaders within the health care
collaboratively with their staff and employees determine the need of change and implementing
them to render quality care and medical treatment. It has been further assessed that this style of
leadership also benefit in enhancing the level of motivation as well as enhances the job
performance of employees. Therefore, it is reviewed that implementing this leadership theory

would benefit me in gaining proper knowledge regarding the activities that are operating within
the health care so that I can amend them easily to render adequate services the service users.
Along with this, through implementing this leadership theory in the health care I have also
determine that I would be motivated enough in amending and making the change within their
action so that it ultimately impact my level of performance as well as also benefit in the
improving the health of patient in the care unit. Along with this transformational leader also
support me in gaining adequate knowledge and information regarding the objectives and goals of
the health care that need to be accomplished.
It has been also assessed that transformational theory would also support in resisting the
change through initiating the change management theory that is Kurt Lewin change model as it
would support me in resisting the change within the health care organization (Hartley and
Benington, 2010). With the help of this I can also take active part in resisting the change and
allowing subordinates to initiate the change within the organization so that they can render
proper services within the health care premises. Along with this, through transformational
leadership I can easily offer the guidance and direction to the nurses and staff so that they can
perform their activities and services accordant with the norms and standards. In this situation
leaders reserve their duty to take the final decisions but it also prompt the feedback and ideas
from their staff and workers so that they may enhance the services within the premises.
On the other hand, another leadership theory that is used within the health care include
situational leadership theory that clearly indicates that leader or manager of the organization tries
to adjust and manage their style and working so that they may engage in the development of the
their staff and care practitioners within the health and social care. Along with this, in this form of
the leadership leaders do change their style not the staff or employer. Therefore, with the help of
this leadership theory within the health care I have learnt that this style support in engaging in
the employee development that further assists me in developing different other skills and abilities
so that I can easily render the quality care and medication services to their service users. On the
other hand, with the help of situational leadership it might also benefit me in boosting my morale
so that I can properly renders the services. The situational leader within the health care
employees highly committed and motivated staff that would support in delivering quality
medical care treatment and services to the different patients and service users.

The last leadership theory that is used within the health care include behavioural style
that mainly ensure understanding or studying of the behaviour of leaders. In this form of
leadership the leaders are the one that possess behaviour and trait that support them in
succeeding as the leader within the health care. Through this I have gained the learning that
leaders are born they are not made.
From the above reflective account it has been analysed that Gibbs reflective cycle
supports the health care practitioners in understanding the incident that individual has
experienced while practising. Along with this, it has also concluded that leadership skills impact
on the situation.
