REFLECTION ON NURSING THEORIES
Section 1:
In week 5, the professor initiated three important topics which are quite important in the
field of nursing. The topics were person centred care, critical reasoning cycle, rlt model. I was
quite excited to learn about new models in the field of nursing. Nursing theories act as guidelines
for helping professionals to develop their practice and also to ensure safe and compassionate care
for the patients (Williams et al., 2017). Therefore I was quite interested to learn about them and
to apply them in my practice. in the 5th week, I was able to develop an overview of the different
topics but could not understand the main foundations of the nursing theories in details. I tried to
relate with nursing practices and understand their applications but I was not being able to do it as
I was not very clear about each and every aspect of the three theories. However one important
thing that I developed knowledge about was that the RLT theory and the CRC theory are mainly
assessment based theories that help nurses to take certain assessments for patients to develop
their interventions. However I was not able to relate it properly with real life scenarios. On close
analysis, I understood that I need to work more on my studying skills so that I can develop my
knowledge on each of the three aspects of Nursing. I should have tried to ask my professor in
details about it so that I did not have any confusion. However I was waiting for the further weeks
to come so that I get the scope of developing more knowledge on the topics. I was also facing
issues in managing time and was getting grasp of the topics at same time as I did not understand
the entire topic successfully. Therefore I needed to discuss it in details with the mentor and also
search out for evidence based articles in order to develop my knowledge

REFLECTION ON NURSING THEORIES
Section 2:
In the sixth week the professor provided more insight into the three topics that helped me
to understand the different aspects of the three topics in details. I understood that the person
centred care is mainly an approach by which the nursing professionals can develop therapeutic
relationships with the patient and can thereby make them feel included in the Healthcare system.
I developed the understanding that it helps nursing professionals in empowering the patients by
making them participate in decision making and also taking informed consent from them while
applying interventions. My professor also talked about clinical reasoning cycles in details mainly
highlighting the first four important part of the theory. I realise that the first four parts mainly
help in assessing the different symptoms of the patient and thereby trying to understand the main
care priorities that the nursing professional should address. Collection of the cues, understanding
the patient information, relating it with the pathophysiology of the disorder and thereby trying to
identify the care priorities are the main aspects. This would help me in my future as a guiding
Framework when a patient would come to me with co morbidities and serious critical illness
(Vikstorm et al., 2015). I also developed the knowledge that I would be applying the RLT theory
mainly in case of patients who are suffering from poor quality life with various kind of
interdependencies on others due to inability to complete daily activities of life. I mainly
developed knowledge about it biological feature in this week. However I still needed to work on
this topic as I had only gathered superficial knowledge about the theories but I could not
interconnect them or still apply them in real case scenarios. Therefore I decided to discuss my
concern with the professor and try to overcome the barriers that I was facing. To this the
professor replied that in week 7 he would be helping us to solve real life case studies which
would help me to relate the theories with scenarios and thereby understand its proper application.

REFLECTION ON NURSING THEORIES
Section 3:
The 7th week was the most interesting week as I completely understood and developed a
deep insight about the three theories that I have learnt. I was quite happy that I could
successfully relate the three theories with the case study of Jim that was provided to us and
therefore I became quite confident in applying these theories in my own practice as well. These
theories help me realise that with the medical advancement, life expectancy has increased but the
disease burden of the older people have increased. Most of the older people are living with
chronic illness with large number co morbidities (Liou et al., 2016). Therefore in order to assess
their symptoms and learn about their disorders and thereby in providing them effective
interventions, I could use person-centred care, RLT theory and CRC theory at the same time. I
understood how I should analyse the psychological, socio-cultural, environmental polito-
economic as well as biological determinants and factors affecting the patient life through the
RLT cycle and thereby realise the symptoms and connect them with the pathophysiology and
identification of the issues of patients (Moorhead et al., 2018). I should also use the person
centred care so that I can develop therapeutic relationship with the patient making the patient feel
empowered and at the same time this would help me to make the patient compliant with the care
interventions that I am providing. However in order to develop the skills of effectively applying
the different theories to practice, I believe that I still need to research immensely and find out
evidence-based articles which would help me to get more insight on the three topics. The
recommendations provided by the researchers in those evidence-based articles would help me to
become an expert professional (Kogan et al., 2016)

Section 4:
When I would become one of the healthcare professional in a healthcare organization, I
should always try to follow all the nursing theories that had been taught to me properly so that
the care I provide would be of high quality and ensure patient satisfaction. I might also have to
tackle large number of patients who come with various kinds of chronic issues. I would first
develop effective relationship with the patients and provide him patient centred care (Dalton et
al., 2015). I would use clinical reasoning cycle to analyze his symptoms and develop the care
plans. I would also use the RLT model when I need to assess the ADLs of the patient and
determine their abilities to maintain themselves independently. This would help me to ensure that
they are living better quality lives. I would first need to conduct literature searches and gather
evidence based articles by which I would be able to develop an in-depth knowledge about the
three theories in details. I would also discuss my concerns and my doubts with my mentor so that
I can apply them in my practice effectively without any conclusion I will also go through several
case studies where professionals have used these theories. These would help me to become more
efficient in relating theories to case studies and thereby applying them effectively (William,
2017). I would maintain a reflective journal to keep up the track of my development and hence
will become expert in using these skills.
