Why learning through reflection is important and what values could it bring to professional
development?
Importance of reflective learning
Reflection is one of the integral parts of learning process that make individual to reflect on their
work and makes corrections in their own mistakes. However, activities and behaviour allowed
people to be successful It is important as it lead to own evaluation that simply describe what
happened in the classroom and what possible learning could be developed while learning.
Another importance is concerned with having better planning process with learning from the
mistakes and also reflecting upon what education is being provided in the classroom. It is the
kind of ongoing process that has helped me to be confident, responsible, reflective, and
innovative and getting engaged (Beech et.al. 2017). Reflection has helped to frame and reframe
problems and drive out actions to learn from the current process.
Values to professional development
Professional development is concerned with achieving experiences in life that is concerned with
achieving the several professional goals. Improving with the reflection in daily processes helps to
build different abilities and skills that add to build professional experience. With the reflection, I
have developed skills such as time management that will help to complete duration within short
period of time (Schön, 2017). I have developed strength in some of the areas as compared to the
other that includes development of assessment skills, ability to be competitive, and gaining basic
understanding of the key skills. Learning from the reflection is definitely the room for
improvement that develops confidence and abilities to improve my management experiences.

Which reflective model has you chosen and why?
For having effective learning and application of suitable model, I have chosen Kolb’s learning
cycle as it is one of the leading theories for acquiring knowledge. I have helped me to develop in
my education that states that 80% of the human cognition comes from our own learning and
experiences. Thus it has helped me to develop different communicable experiences and
increasing the remembrances of the new information. This cycle suggest individual to follow
certain steps for having effective learning. It is mainly used for meeting with the specific
experiences and also observation, thinking and reflecting from the experience. However, it has
helped me to create the abstract, concepts and ideas for improving my professional learning
(Barker et.al. 2016). It also suggests performing regular experimentations that is based on the
experience with having the test that what is being learnt from the experiences and lessons in
classroom.
This model is being chosen as it argues that life is full of experiences and we learn from the life
on everyday basis. I have occurred with different responsibilities and with this it is necessary to
learn and get prepared towards achieving personal and professional goals. For this, reflection is
one of the important parts where I was able to experience that it is necessary to review ourselves
on the basis of day or on weekly basis. This includes preparing the weekly reflective journals
that tells about developed experiences and learning that is performed from each and every
activity.

Apply the relevant reflective model, what are the three main aspects you learnt from PPDI?
There are different activities that are being followed for having learning from the application of
Kolb’s learning model. Concrete experience include actual doing of the activity, reflective
observation is reflecting performance in the activity with considering success and failures.
Abstract conceptualization is concerned with application of the theory in performance of the
activity and planning active experimentation includes considering theory and reflective guide
planning for developing experiences (Tomkins and Ulus, 2016). There are different aspects that
have been learnt with the lessons in the PPDI that includes:
 With reflective learning practices it is being effective to take initiative to grow in near
future. Individual needs to accept the fact that core skills can be developed with making
changes in the personal experiences and having regular observations. This will help me in
taking the responsibility of improving the learning progress as progress is derived from
own learning.
 I am able to apply the gained experience in the real life situations that includes solving
problems and being numerate and literate to take effective decisions. Learning is being
developed from listening and communicating orally and in writing. Learning in groups is
effective for attaining and developing by working in group situations and developing
quality in learning and effective achievement.
 I have also learnt to gain information and communication with the help of effective
technologies that can be used in the near future for completing different projects. In
addition, it is required to use in effective process of learning and also bringing
development in carrying out the experiences that is being developed with the effective
process of learning.

Earlier doing things systematically with the use of cycles and applications and different
reflective theories has helped me strengthen my professional knowledge. Such knowledge will

only contribute in professional development but also leads to achieve personal growth in

Do you see any value in the knowledge gained when applying the reflective model and why?
Experiential learning can be effective with finding development having power to inspire people
that is concerned with having not only learning but also to have effective learning from the
practice. Kolb’s learning model is being effective and helped to carry out the effective weekly
process to develop effective knowledge and learning. I am able to set dedicates and achievable
goals for future careers. This helped to develop the opportunity of having familiar with my
individual strengths, aptitude and potential (Dixon, 2017). I am effectively able to uniform
decisions in near future that will help to reflect on my personal learning and critical path of life.
Key knowledge and skills that are developed from the effective learning practices are effective to
be applied in the real life situations. Earlier while hearing the facts, I used to forget things but
having clear experience I started remembering the experiences and when I started practicing I
was able to understand the fact that performing experiments with having regular practices helped
in effective learning and also experiences. I applied model to achieve development in skills and
also professional growth and also achieving goals in near future. I will be able to complete my
learning programs and achieve degree of management that I will be applying in the near future. I
will be able to accomplish my dream of applying different skills and knowledge for opening my
small cafe with proper management of the operations.

How will this knowledge change this practice?
With bringing development in the knowledge, it is necessary for applying the knowledge in real
life situations. For example, technology used in education place helped to learn that labour
efforts can be minimized with finding development in the technology and having technical
knowledge. Also different skills were given by the teachers that includes organizing students
work, maximizing the effectiveness and having practicing in regular studies that has been learnt
from the lectures. It is necessary to foster regular connections and relying on the advice that has
been effective for bringing development in future.
However, with self learning it is effective to find development in the relationships that are being
formed with the teachers and also with the colleagues. Self learning will help to regular assess
my strength and weakness that would be effective for practicing my professional goals (Peterson
et.al. 2015). With evaluation of what is to be learnt and what is actually learnt will be effective to
find gap and necessary actions could be taken to improve in the near future. Performance could
be improved with having critical thinking with the critical implementation of peer learning
activities that are used to facilitate the critical thinking and learning of individual. I will also take
active participation in such learning programs to identify the key aspects that are being effective
for application of practices that helps to improve in the actual learning program. I need to learn
about the action research in the classroom by thinking, creating and growing with the learning
that is being taught in the classroom.
