Introduction – Beginning Process
Canada has been in headlines all over the world for its humanitarian approach and
tradition towards the world and especially towards refugees. It has become the biggest hub to
welcome refugees following shared responsibilities in helping displaced, persecuted, and
needy people for protection. The country formed Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship
Canada (IRCC) in 1994 to handle responsibilities with immigrants to deal with the process, it
follows the principle of Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom to enforce immigration
policies and laws to preserve human rights (Boyd, 2016; Berhane & Tyyskä, 2017).
It works under several acts, namely,
- Canadian Multiculturalism Act
- Canadian Passport Order
- Citizenship Act
- Department of Citizenship and Immigration Act
- Financial Administration Act
- Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Revolving Fund Act
- User Fees Act
According to Data extracted from 2016 Census Statistics, approximately 21.9% of the
Canadian Population were reported as Immigrants. In 2017, the Immigration Minister of Canada,
Ahmed Hussein determined that there would be approximately 1 million permanent residents and
it will increase to three years increasing from 0.7% to 1% in 2020. Analysts have classified the
immigration into three categories – short term, medium term, and long term. These terms have
different features. Therefore, the reflective paper is focused on using different sociological
