RESEARCH TITLE
To identify the impact of reward system on employees retention; A study on Marriott
hotel".
TASK 1
1.1 Research project Description
Increasing competition between the firms have created the need for businesses to retain
employees who are excellent in their work and play important part in organizations growth.
Different studies have revealed that at workplace a employee is motivated through different
prospects due to different perceptions of employees towards various things that comes there way.
One such thing to motivate a employee at workplace is Reward systems(Gerhart and Fang,
2014). These systems in the recent times have seen a rapid increase in organizations adopting the
reward system techniques to retain employees in companies who can make a impact.
Reward systems are the key element in the organization, through effective reward system
a firm can retain its key employees, enhance motivation, creates a brand image in the mind of
stakeholders and potential stakeholders in context with the organization. There are different
reward systems through which companies are able to retain their employees, they are considered
under the headings Extrinsic rewards, Intrinsic rewards, Monetary rewards and non-monetary
rewards(Bin, 2015). It is tough challenge for a HR department of the firm to keep the employee
on the job. So here reward system plays its role. Every firm has its own kind of reward systems,
since nature of business varies so does the rewards. The present report has been taken into
account to measure the impact the reward systems have on employees and how organizations are
able to make their employees not go anywhere else through reward system. So basically the
research is to measure the impact of reward system on employee retention(Rukevwe and Oke,
2014). For the purpose of research a company has been taken into account which is Marriott
Hotel. The research project will help in identifying the ways through which Marriott hotel by
applying various reward systems will be able to retain the important employees of the
organization.

Aim and objectives
Aim
To identify the impact of reward system on employees retention; A study on Marriott
hotel".
Objectives
To understand the conceptual framework of rewards system and employees retention.
To identify the impact of reward system on employees retention.
To determine the relationship between reward system and employees retention in
Marriott Hotel.
To suggest ways that can help in increasing retention rate of workers in the organization.
1.2 Factors that contribute to the process of research project selection
There are plenty of factors which contributes to the selection of research topic and they
are as follows:
Interested Field: Companies management has to lay emphasis on increasing rate of
employee moving out of the companies these days. In order to facilitate them and
motivate them to keep working in the organization, companies should come up with
different rewarding techniques in order to retain employees in the company. Researcher
has interest in the particular field also the topic taken is related to current practices. This
will help researcher in conducting good research.
Current Issue: Since reward systems and the influential factors of reward systems that
drives an organization to retain its employees is the current issue in context of
organizations which are more innovative and creative. This research on the fresh issue
will help its readers to further draw conclusions and practically implement reward
systems in the firms.

Collection Sources: As far as primary data is concerned that would be collected as per the
researcher knowledge of the topic. While secondary data will be collected based on some
journals, articles, white papers, books, etc.
Survey: For collection of data, individual has conducted a survey and asked the
employees about effectiveness of reward system in their particular organization also
companies authorities were asked some questions related to framing of reward systems
which has supported the researcher in a high extent.
1.3 Critical review of key references
As study regarding the topic is done by many scientists and authors or experts of the
fields, there point of view towards reward system in an organization is important in finding out
what are factors they have considered in there report or white papers in order to draw the
conclusions(Parakandi and Behery, 2016). Some authors have positive recommendations and
some may have negative. By looking at their study it will help researchers to make necessary
judgments in this report.
Motivation is generally the act of particular individual that drives through certain factors
like achievements, responsibility, competence, promotion, rewards, etc. As per Vroom, "Vroom
Expectancy Model of motivation suggested that an employee's performance is based on
individual factors i.e experiences, knowledge, skills, personality and his/her ability to perform.
Reward systems are implemented in organizations to motivate the workforce". Getting out the
best out of an employee is the main purpose of rewards. Rewards can be monetary and non-
monetary. Monetary rewards are: Bonus, Financial Incentive, Promotion, Stock option, etc. and
Non-monetary rewards are: Appreciation and recognition, Relocation Expenses, Holiday
Packages, Out sites, Etc(Česynienė, 2015). Reward systems are all psychological payments that
an organization delivers to its employees in exchange of work perform for them. According to
Nick Ryan, "if rewards are not competitive, it will be difficult to recruit the staff since potential
employees can obtain better rewards from competitors". This will act as a good strategy for the
Document Page
companies as well as bad for the companies since Nick has talked about rewards to be
competitive in order to recruit staff but if current employees are not overwhelm from that
practice then they will be temped to leave the organizations. So implementing a reward system is
also a big task in organizations in order to drive employees retention ratio high. Another study
By Greene, 2014 reveals that reward systems are incorporated in an organization in order to
ehance4 the employee performance levels in the businesses. As per this research an attempt has
been made to understand the practices that are followed by Marriott hotels in employee retention
and finding out what drives Marriott hotel employees to keep engaging with the hotel, whether
its the work environment or the effectiveness of the reward systems. Since Marriott Hotels are
among those hotel chains in the world that every person will love to work for. So keeping that in
mind a deep research has been conducted by researcher to make sure that these brand loyalty
factors doesn't affect reports judgments.
1.3 Research project specification
Research Methodology is that process in which researcher collects all the relevant data
and information for achieving the objective of the research. Through research methodology a
researcher is able to conduct a detail study of the research topic and it facilitates researcher in
knowing problems of the issue and how to overcome those issues. In the event of carrying out
the research process a researcher frames research questions for the target audience who's
opinions will help them to find suitable answers of research. Apart from this various tools and
techniques have been followed by researcher in making appropriate conclusions towards the
topic. Questions for the research study are as below maintained:
What is the framework of rewards system and employees retention?
What is the impact of reward system on employees retention ?
What is type of relationship between reward system and employees retention in Marriott
Hotel prevails?
Document Page
What are the ways that can help in increasing retention rate of workers in the
organization?
For the present research several research methodologies will be used by researcher, these
are as following:
In order to collect primary data and secondary data different sources will be used.
Surveys will be part of primary data collection and for secondary data collection books,
journals, white papers, articles and newspapers will be taken.
Inductive approach will be used for this research as collection of data is do0ne in keeping
view the organization that is Marriott hotel, So this is the appropriate method of study.
For the present report interpretivism philosophy will be used so that necessary
amendments can be done timely.
Random sampling techniques will get selected by the researcher so that unnecessary
biasness can be avoided. Sample size for this topic will be 20 employees of Marriott
hotel.
Data analyses will be done by applying qualitative technique for the purpose of this
study.

TASK 3
Research methodology
Introduction
Research methodology is way to study about the participle topic that can help to reaching a
particular outcomes. In this report understand various frame work of reward system and
employee retention. Where to identify the impact of reward system on employee retention. As
per this topic, a study is done to have a deeper knowledge on chosen subject so that entire study
can be done on its cause and impact.( Mackey and Gass, 2015.)
Research philosophy
In this point research philosophy is a based on entire study about the topic with the some
kind of interpretation. The philosophy of research is laid on assumption so that developed from
into the working practices. Mainly there are two type of research philosophies one is
interpretivism or second is positivism. Where Interpretivism philosophy is based on various kind
of perception which are established in an organization. On the other hand the positivism
philosophy of research is done with the real facts. Where some logical or factual bases
Document Page
information can be proceed in this philosophy. According to present report used interpretivism
theory for analysis current issue of society. ( Taylor, Bogdan and DeVault, M., 2015)
Research approach
The research approach can be understood by the researcher where he would get information from
the different source with the context of topic. This is very vast situation in an organization to
where right approach selected for the research a process. It help to leads right ht outputs.
There are mainly two type of research approach where one is inductive and another one is
deductive. In inductive research approach analysis various things with the help of
observation, while deductive approach is where researcher make a study on specific topic so
that a generalize viewpoint can be developed. In present report researcher used inductive
research approach where they develop new phenomena for the research , the new techniques
has been set where it is helpful to understanding the current issues. ( Brinkmann, 2014. )
Data collection
Data collection is most important part of the any research report where relevant data is
used by research in their respected study. Data should be useful to elevate specific
information about there problems. Data collection is method about their study to identify
relevant information about the topic. There are two types of data collection methods one is
quantitative method other one is quantitative method. Where qualitative method is way to
collected data is done according to a particular method which is based on thematic analysis
of the data. On the other side quantitative method is a way to collect data from statistical
tools like SPSS where mean, mode, median etc. In present study, research has been
Document Page
accomplished as per the qualitative method of data analysis. In this research method various
tale graphs will be made in this report. ( Silverman, 2016. )
Sampling
Sampling is way to identify number of employees where you select them. Researcher
ensure firstly sampling of the overall research project where they communicate with them.
With the help of sampling researcher will ensure size of employees. Sample size is help to
reduce the large population size. Sampling can be done in two phase one is probabilistic and
non probabilistic. In probabilistic type the participants have equal chance to getting selected
in research program, on the other side non probabilistic sampling is a way to does not
provide equal chance to get contributing their. In present report researcher adopt 20
employee on random basis for study purpose.
Ethical consideration
Ethical consideration has plays a significant role in their research project. It is mandatory
to apply ll legal aspects in research program. It would be maintain of overall study. In this point
research must focus on Popper study on taken participants. Research properly used some ethical
object to main their workforce environment in research project. A part from this , research ethics
provide proper confidentiality in data collection methods. In current report all these ethical tools
will help to achieving outcomes in right manner. ( Vaioleti, 2016.)
Limitations

In the study of research report there are various limitations is available in current
situation. Limitation is way to provide some restriction in some ares where researches a cant be
proceed.. Which means at the research programs research face some problem in data collection
where some of the restricted ares is there where they cant able to take data. According to current
topic various limitations were faced by the researcher that is based on information gathering
source and openness in organization environment. One more thing is time , in present report
allotted time is not sufficient for the whole study it will take lot more time to achieve success.
Moreover, as stated above discussion , research report scope is very wide thus these is limitations
in resources where researcher enable to utilized them. Along with there is adequate data was not
available for study . That is major imitation of the present report. ( Panneerselvam, 2014.)

3.1 Using appropriate research evaluation techniques with justifications
To evaluate the collected information from primary source, the researcher can adopt
either formative or summative research evaluation. When a study carries out on regular basis i.e.
starting to end then formative method can be used. But in the case of summative research
evaluation, the final result develops after completing the entire investigation. In this, there is a no
scope to make changes in findings. In the context of the present research, the researcher has used
formative research evaluation because of to make sure about validity and reliability of primary
data.
