Introduction
An organization can involve an information system for the improvement of the
business and its business functions. Arthur Davidson and William Harley founded
the Harley-Davidson Motor Company (HDMC) in 1903. The company has largest
company of motorcycle in the world by 1920. HSMC has involved online facilities for
management of the supply chain management.
ERP systems provide help to the improvement of the business processes of the
company especially supply chain management. In addition, the ERP system
provides help to the management of various things, such as inventory, finance,
marketing, and CRM.
This report will describe about the HDMC and its business functions that improve
because of the Supply Chain Management system (SMS). It will explain the role of
information systems and decision-making systems on the business functions of the
company, such as supply chain, marketing, sales, finance, inventory, CRM, HRM,
and many others.
Background of the HDMC
The company has included new technologies and innovations to improve the
performance and business of the company. It has improved the profit and revenue
of the company. In addition, the company has managed all the business functions in
a proper manner. The company has various sites to manufacture and development
of the project. These are the sites of the company, which are Wisconsin
(Headquarter), Pennsylvania (Part production), and Missouri (Parts Development).
All the sites have managed different functions of the company. In addition, the
company has managed Sportster motorcycles in an additional way. Moreover, the
company has hired good leaders, which manages all the works in a proper manner.
The company has included a proper leadership and strategy council, which has
divided into three parts, which are produce products, create demand, and provide
support. There is a huge impact on all three things on the business of the company.
The company has produced good quality of the product, which makes a high value

in the market. There are some products, which have special demand in the market
because of the quality and service of the product in the market. It has created a
demand in the market, which makes direct impact on the profit of the company. The
company has provided proper support to their customers and other stakeholders in
a proper manner (Zhong & Rohde, 2014).
However, there are some factors, which make changes in the overall processes and
provide a high level of benefits, such as innovation and technologies. In addition,
the Information System (IS) has a factor that makes huge impact on the progress of
the company. The company has created ‘office of CIO (chief information officer) in
which all the directors have provided suggestion for IS and its processes (Wu, et al.,
2013).
Information Technology Circle (ITC) is a pair of senior IS persons and end-users of
the system. The company has required the IS for managing their maintenance,
repair, and operations (MRO), general merchandising (GM), parts and accessories
(P&A), and original equipment (OE).
Gerry Berryman has changed the scenario of the company in the year 2003, as he
has planned for purchasing a new system to manage purchasing and other systems.
It has provided many benefits to the company, such as influence cost, supplier
relationship, reduce costs, time management, and improve product quality. There
are many huge impacts of technology on the business of the company (Shamah,
2013).
Business and technical environment for SMS
SMS has imposed many changes in the business functions and its ways to manage
the process. It has changed the scenario of the business from two different
environments, which are business and technical environment for SMS (Russell &
Taylor-Iii, 2008).
The business environment for SMS
SMS has increased the business of the company, as it improves various things of
the sales and purchases processing, such as reduce cost, influence rate, quality of
products, less time, and many more. All those things improve the business of the
