Executive Summary
In today's world, the information system is critical to the success of any organization.
This report is about the scope of information systems in the operations management of
British American Tobacco Bangladesh (BATB). It is a subsidiary of British American
Tobacco, and it has a long-standing reputation for providing its customers with
consistently high-quality tobacco products.
The report gives the details regarding the various information system used in operation
management by BATB. In our research, we discovered that BATB is currently utilizing
five applications, which are SAP, BAT leaf, IQMS, Business Xpress, and Wings,
across its various business layers, which include the Green Leaf Threshing (GLT)
plant, the Primary Manufacturing Department, the Secondary Manufacturing
Department, the Distribution Department, and the Consumer Services Department.
Despite the fact that they are the largest tobacco company in Bangladesh, they have
limitations and face challenges at every level of the business when competing on a
global scale. It is still lagging behind its other global subsidiaries, such as BAT
Malaysia, in terms of productivity. After reviewing the information systems used by
BAT Malaysia, we strongly recommend that BATB adopt the globally accepted
information systems in order to run their business more efficiently and cost effectively,
as well as to improve their performance and increase their profitability.
