DATA AND COMMUNICATION
1. Introduction
The report consists of the description of the networking and communication setup for
the USoft private company. The company is a biomedical software development company.
The company is expanding and there has been a decision in the organization to develop a
LAN network for the Head quarter of the organization.
The report has been used here for the description of the network designs and
development for the organization as per requirements. The organizational description has
been included in the report for the requirements analysis of the network. In addition to this,
the IP address allocation scheme for the network in the headquarters have been provided in
the report along with the logical and physical designs of the network for the organization.
2. Organisational Description
The organization currently has the two branches that are spread over the region of
Gold coast. The LAN topology in the organization consists of the three routers, which divides
the current network into three smaller networks. The three smaller networks are the Braches
A and B and the headquarters of the organization. There is need for the expansion within the
organization and hence there is need for relay of the LAN topology design of the
organization. The structure for the network setup by the Usoft organization is provided in the
table described below. The number of hosts for each of the department in the headquarters of
the organization is provided in this table as informed by the organization.

3. Analysis of User Requirements (Requirement engineering)
The requirement analysis is the most important part of network implementation
process as this provides the designer with the information about the users in the network and
the network peripherals required for the development of any type of network structure for the
organization. In addition to this, the process is very important so that the conflicts in between
the users of the system and the network set up done for the headquarters of the organization.
After performing a thorough analysis on the current situation within the organization, it has
been found that the network of the organization has two type of goals. One of them is the
business goal and the other is the technical goal.
The business goals of the organization involve the communication facilities, wireless
technicalities and efficient voice processes within the network setup for the organization. The
network should be able to provide the organization with better communication techniques and
also the voice communication within the network should be noise less. In addition to this, the
aspect of security is also to be kept in mind during the implementation of the network for the
USoft organization. The network should be well protected by the firewall technologies and
efficient data protection protocols. In addition to this, the network should be able to provide
the employees and the staff of the organization with remote access when within the
headquarters. This access should be well protected with efficient password schemes that
would be protecting the network from unauthorized access.
Additionally the technical goals of the organization would involve a number of
features that are to be implemented in the network to satisfy the needs of the USoft
organization. Firstly, the network that is to be designed should be scalable so that the plan of
the organization to expand the network by the 15% over the next 12 month is satisfied. This
is because the organization is planning to hire a number of employees into their organization
and this would require the network to be extended largely. In addition to this, the network

solution that is implemented should be able to support remote access to it, which would allow
the employees of the organization to be connected to the network from both inside the
headquarters and outside it. Hence, a number of servers are to be deployed for the
organization, which would be helpful for the clients get online with the system of the
organization.
Thirdly, the performance of the network that has to be implemented for the
organization should not be lagging in any respect. The performance within the network
should be high and network should always be up. It is very important that the number of users
required in the network be to be identified. The performance of the network would depend on
the hops that are present in the network largely.
4. Logical Design
It is very important that the network peripherals and the hardware to be installed in
the networking structures be identified beforehand to the implementation of the network. This
would be done with the help of the logical network designs. In addition to this, the IP
addressing scheme would be helpful for the network implementation process that would be
able to provide a measure for the expansion of the network in future if required. Additionally,
the number of departments that are present in the organization are to be identified that would
help the sub netting process largely. The division of the network is done with the help of the
VLan techniques and the LAN topology is to be developed accordingly to the division. The
number of floors are 6 as defined by the organization and hence the network is to be set up
according the floor plan of the six storied building. Each of the departments of the
organization are placed on a different floor. In addition to this, a software is to be installed in

About 96% of available major network address space is used
About 77% of subnetted network address space is used
6. Logical Network Diagram:
The logical diagram for the network is developed keeping the focus on the flow of
data within the network, which includes the points of control and the routing domains as well.
The generic switches has been used in the network for the top layer of the network. The
network is distributed from the main core switches used for the core network layer. This
helps in centralizing the network. Two switches have been used for the distribution of the
network in proper subnets. Along with the switches in the distribution layer, there are
switches for each of the departments in the organization. Each of these switches further
divide each layer into 3 smaller divisions. All the divisions contain there subdivisions which
allocated the computers in a switch, the IP Phones in the switch and the server in a different
switch. The users are the last leyer in the network.

7. Physical Network Diagram:
The physical diagram has been developed for the network, which would be
demonstrating the devices that would be used in the network. Each of the switches would be
connected to each of the floor that would be connected to the systems. In addition to this, the
IP phones would be connected parallel to each of the computers in the system.
8. Conclusion
For conclusion, it can be said that the development of a network and communication
solution is a very important process for any type of organization. The case study of the Usoft
organization is an indication to this fact. With the reference to the case study, it is to be noted
that the organization is looking to implement a network solution for their headquarters.
Hence, the report has been created for informing the reader about the network
implementation process. The entries details have been described along the logical and
