accomplish objectives. Data gathering procedures acknowledge a basic place in every
investigation. This deduces researcher needs to use suitable strategies for social occasion data in
order to achieve the focuses and focuses of research. Basic system includes assembling direct
information (Badke, 2012). This is new information which the master assembles himself for the

research. Basic data gathering strategies include surveys, reviews, interviews, focus social affairs
et cetera. These help with getting point by point viewpoints of the respondents. The present

Secondary methodology for data collection is another system that is used as a piece of
social event data for an investigation. Discretionary data contains information that has been
dispersed in various examinations. Thusly, it contains data that has been used by various
scientists in their works (Bernard, 2012). Likewise, helper data is also called as second hand
contraption. The present work on delegate motivation and causes utilized distinctive for getting
discretionary data. Circulated articles and books of various specialists have been used. As needs
be, the theory used works of various makers related to specialist motivation and diverse
components related to it. Discretionary data was in like manner gotten from online articles, sites,
government reports, censuses et cetera. In the present theory, survey has been used as an
instrument for get-together information from basic sources. The survey contains close completed
request (Burns, 2008). These request have been used as they are less requesting and speedier for
the respondents to answer them. In like manner, with these request, it is less requesting for the
pro to take a gander at the fitting reactions of different respondents. Specifically, it is less
requesting to code and furthermore quantifiably dismember the fitting reactions of close
completed request. By having a consideration of secondary sources the collection of information
can be taken into account in desired manner. With an effective consideration of key measures the

LITERATURE REVIEW
Monetary and non-monetary factors of impacting motivation of employee
Motivation is that part or force which is helping and enabling the person to achieve their
set targets and in their growth or development that is overall as introduced by Lazaroiu, (2015).
Motivation is at that time of person when they are desiring or wanting that they must be
attempting to achieve that which would thus be based on their actions. During or at particular
time when a person starts doing something just in order to achieve their goals and objectives set
and the motion or factor whether inside or outside is instructing them to do is called to as
motivation. So it is required that this motivation should be there into every person in order to
4

achieve their targets and goals of life. Most particularly this needs to be there into employees
who are working not only to attain their professional but also their personal goals which would
be only limited to themselves. Thus, it would also be regarded to as manipulating part of person
when they are acting or performing their working into set or desired way out.
Facer Jr, Inoue and Zigarmi, (2014) once included that employees who are working never
could be regarded to as liability for company as they are assets in form of human resource for
company. They are one who not only put their efforts but their time, intelligence, forces and
sometimes physical strength into company in which they are working. It is not the managers, or
owner of organisation which are making business successful but employees are the one who are
growing and developing company. So it is very important that company is making its efforts to
motivate employees who are not only performing well but to them who are not. As both of them
would be resourceful for business and they are doing something in way of achieving targets and
objective as well. Kauppila, (2018) also argued that motivation is that factor which is either
intrinsic or extrinsic but it could never to impose in forceful manner onto employees.
This theory was at initial time studied and practiced only into social and psychological
part but now it is emerging as important task which management or human resource department
of company need to perform. This emphasise was made in 19th and 20th century into company
especially on human resource department to motivate and make their efforts to achieve targets of
company. In the study Ahmad and et.al., (2014) included that there are mainly two types of
factors which are forcing or motivating employees like that of intrinsic that are internal and
extrinsic like external factors. The presence or absence of both the factors would be meaning and
making employee to work in a set or pre direction leading them to achievement of targets.
Intrinsic motivating factors are those that could be linked up with non-monetary elements
that are encouraging them to work and attain the targets. These are the desire or instinct of
human or employees that are coming from inside and aimed at achieving their own targets for
personal growth. On the other hand extrinsic factor would be related to money or other monetary
benefits like that of bonus, salary increment, compensation and profit sharing as well. Kiruja and
Mukuru, (2018) said that these external factors are generally driven by third party and depended
upon the performance and efforts of employees. The extrinsic factor would be leading to many
achievement rather than only growth or target achievement which are like that of job
management, leadership and job satisfaction as well. All these noted factors are thus leading to

motivation of employees towards the action or better performance is also many times considered
to be as good and including factor (Sanyal and Biswas, 2014). Both these factors are leading to
motivation of employees are they then perform in good and effective manner on company which
is helping to contribute into profits.
There are many included theories which are focusing on motivation and its impact or
several factors encouraging employees. One of the most important theory which evolved into
basic and important theory of motivation named after scholar and researcher Victor H. Vroom in
year 1964. As per Miner, (2015) in the before theories of motivation main focus was only onto
internal needs and all resulting efforts to fulfil them. On other hand Expectancy theory that was
propounded by Vroom lays stress majorly on three factors like performance, efforts and outcome
all of them are arising from motivation only. The performance that of employees in company
would be centred on individual factors similar to knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and
abilities of employees to work. Into this theory which is leading for the motivation of employees
and impacting their performance and growth development there are some variables used.
All three variable which are used are focusing on both monetary and non-monetary
factors expectancy, instrumentality and valence. In this expectancy is relied on having right and
correct form of resource including material, tools, machines and human as resource and it is
important to have right skills in doing the job as well. On the same hand supervisors of firm
should be supporting for their employees in getting right type of job (Bakker and Demerouti,
2014Sandhu and et.al., 2017). While instrumentality is based on outcome that too it must be
valuable and then getting reward or recognition in respect to that accomplishment of goals. This
is mainly all kind of monetary rewards which employees are receiving from their seniors and
higher level management like that of commission, incentives, bonuses, etc. In order to enhance
the motivation of the employees working in the organisation it is essential for the managers to
focus on their needs, wants and expectations. Olafsen and et.al., (2015) said that motivations of
employees is greatly influenced by the monetary benefits provided to them by the organisations.
In order to accomplish the aim and objectives of the organisations it is really important for the
management to keep their employees motivated and satisfied. If management fails to fulfilled the
needs and expectations of employees, than they have to face high employee turnover,
absenteeism, high attrition rates, strikes, conflicts and disputes. For instance, many outsourcing
companies in order to fulfil their targets puts loads of pressure on employees which makes them

frustrated and exasperated. This impacts on their reputation and employees tends to leave the
organisation.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research methodology is the framework of research study, in this section researcher will
describe the research methodologies used by him or her in order to accomplish the aim and
objectives of dissertation. In dissertation, researcher has to elaborate the types of research
methodologies used by him or her (Taylor, Bogdan and DeVault, 2015). The research
philosophy, research approach, research design and research strategies selected by him or her
and the process of data collection, analysis and sampling must be elaborated by him. In this
context, this part will help in elucidating the research methodologies used by researcher in order
to attain the aim and objectives of the research study.
Research Philosophy
Research philosophy deals with the source, nature and development of knowledge. In
simple terms, a research philosophy is belief about the ways in which data about a phenomenon
should be collected, analysed and used. Research philosophy has been classified into four types
which are positivism, realism, interpretivism and pragmatism. In order to attain the aim and
objectives of dissertation, it is important for researcher to selects appropriate research philosophy
(Mackey and Gass, 2015). In the present dissertation, in order to attain the aim and objectives of
research, researcher has used positivism research philosophy, Positivism research philosophy
helps in analysing the case study, theories and models associated with the research in effectively
and efficient manner and also provide assistance in collection and analysis of data (Billig and
Waterman, 2014). Thus, by using positivism research philosophy researcher was able to
accomplish the aim and objective of research study.
Research Approaches
Discussion of research approach is very important and essential. Research approach is a
plan and procedure that consists of the steps of broad assumptions to detailed method of data
collection, analysis and interpretation. It is therefore, based on the nature of the research problem
being addressed (Lewis, 2015). Research approach has been classified into two forms. These are
deductive and inductive research approach. Deductive research approach has been used by
researchers in order to testify the hypothesis or assumptions them made. Inductive research
approach has been used by the researchers in order to attain the research questions, As no
7
Document Page
hypothesis has been formulated in the research study, thus researcher will use inductive research
approach. Inductive research approach helps the researcher to attain the research questions
thoroughly and efficiently.
Research Design
Researchers have argued on precise definition of research design. Some researchers
believe that research design is the process of data collection and analysis while some researches
define the researchers defines research design as difference between qualitative and quantitative
research study (Flick, 2015). Research design is the process through which researcher attempts
the research questions. There are several types of research designs which have been used by
researchers in order to carry out the research study. In the present dissertation, researcher has
used descriptive research design. Through descriptive research design, researcher was able to
accomplish the aim and objectives of research study.
Research strategy
Research strategy is the plan devised by researcher in order to accomplish the aim and
objectives of the research. Research strategies are general plans which assist the researcher to
attain the aim and objective of the dissertation effectively and efficiently (Silverman, 2016).
There are two types of researches conducted by the researchers which are qualitative and
quantitative. In qualitative research, researcher analyse data which is collected through inquiry.
Quantitative research is the research which is used for analysing numerical data. In the present
research, the investigator has used mixed research method using both qualitative and quantitative
research study. Through this, researcher was able to attain the goals and objectives of the study
effectively and efficiently.
Data Collection
Data collection is the process through which researcher gathers vital and relevant
information. In research dissertation, data collection is very important and crucial process. There
are two sources where researcher can acquire relevant data and information. These are primary
and secondary sources (Ledford and Gast2018). To answer the research question of present
dissertation, the researcher has collected data from both primary and secondary sources. Primary
source of collection data is the process where researcher makes efforts to collect data all by him
or herself. There are numerous tools of collecting primary data. In the present study, researcher
has used questionnaire research instruments. The questionnaire has been provided to the

employees of Thomas Cook in order to assess their motivation level. The questionnaire consists
of close ended questions and has been provided to them by hand only. Researcher obtain
secondary data by analysing different books, journals and articles related with subject matter.
Sampling
Sampling is the process used in statistical analysis in which a predetermined number of
observations are taken from a larger population. As analysing large population is pragmatically
not possible for researcher thus, researcher prefer to take sample of population (Brinkmann,
2014). As the population was large researcher prefer to take a sample of 50 employees working
at Thomas Cook for the analysis purpose by using simple random sampling method. Simple
random sampling method is the purest and simplest form of sampling method of probability
sampling. It is easy as researcher randomly selects the participants of the study without
considering other aspects.
Data Analysis
Data analysis is the process through which researcher converts raw data into meaningful
information. In order to attain the aim and objectives of research it is essential for researcher to
analyse the collected data in appropriate and precise manner (Humphries, 2017). In this
dissertation, researcher has used thematic analysis in order to analyse the collected data.
Different themes have been formulated by researcher for each question and interpretation has
also been provided so that end users can comprehend it effectively and efficiently. With the help
of graphs and tables, researcher has conducted data analysis in effective and efficient manner.
Ethical Consideration
For dissertation perspective, ethical consideration is considered as the most important and
essential part of the research (Panneerselvam, 2014). In order to conduct the research in ethical
manner, the researcher has to follow certain rules, regulations and norms. In the present study,
the researcher has explained the motive of the study to the participants of the dissertation.
Furthermore, the researcher has respect the dignity of research participants and confidentiality
has been maintained by the researcher. Anonymity of individuals has been secured and no such
question has been asked in the questionnaire that impacts on their emotional sentiments. The
protection of privacy of research participants has been assured by the researcher. In this way, the
researcher maintained and followed the ethical norms that help in accomplishing the aim and
objective of research in ethical and efficient way.

Research limitation
Every researcher faced one or many limitations in the process of research which act as an
obstruction to the study (Bauer, 2014). In the present dissertation, researcher has faced some
limitations which affects the effectiveness in the dissertation. In this context, the limitations
faced by the researcher is described below: Data Collection and analysis: Researcher faced limitation during the process of data
collection. There are several methods of data collection and researcher got confused
regarding precise method for collection of data.
 Resistance of participants: Participants of the study which were employees of Thomas
Cook resist to participate in the study. Researcher faced difficulties in conveying them to
participate.
