RESEARCH DESIGN 2
Background: The impact of social behavior factors on the emergence of measles
Although the World Health Organization (WHO) has put a lot of efforts in reducing
the burden of measles on public health, there are various social behaviors that are impacting
on the emergence of the disease. This is particularly in developing countries where there
remains a low coverage of immunization and the deficiency of vitamin A is common. In
2005, 345,000 children deaths were reported out of a global reported cases of 20 million. This
represents 55-60% of the 1.6 million deaths attributable to diseases which are vaccine
preventable. The social behavior has been a big contributor of deaths and infections due to
failure to deliver at least a single dose of the vaccine to infants therefore leading to a high
mortality and morbidity due to measles (Alavi, et al,2018).
Literature Review
The signs of measles to conclude that a child has a clinically confirmed case include;
cough, fever, conjunctivitis or coryza, maculopapular rush which is non-vesicular and
increased body temperature (Babatunde, & Low, 2015).. The only condition for the study and
the methodology is that between the specified months is that the pediatricians included in the
hospital charts the signs and symptoms, the demographic data and the proximity to their
houses. Proximity shows that houses that were more than > 25 km from the hospital were
difficult to trace. The behavioral factors such as social conditions of extreme poverty, lack of
social amenities and lack of information about vaccination caused a wide spread of measles
diseases. The clinical data and demographics were gotten from the charts by pediatricians
and were matched with age and sex of the children.

RESEARCH DESIGN 3
The appropriate measures in the research include reliability, acceptability and validity.
The research focused on the validity of the results. The research question is the impact of
social behavioral factors to the emergence and spread of measles and the high morbidity and
mortality rates in developing countries. The validity of the research results are determined by
the confidence levels of the test and the general observation & findings of the research. The
validity of a research is the degree to which a research instrument measures the accuracy or
the research. The research results and findings should truly represent the phenomenon the
research is actually measuring and doing a research on. The claims should be solid and valid
(Kumar, 2019).
The results of children with confirmed cases of measles were compared to healthy
children without the history of measles but lived in same villages as those with children
suffering from measles attacks. The parents were interviewed to give their perspective on the
infections and the social behavioral factors that lead to measles spread. Standard
questionnaire was designed and made to collect maximum information on the measles
outbreak and spread. The information in the questionnaires was simple and easy to
understand. It contained questions on possible outbreak of measles, parents education levels,
children feeding modes, Socio-economic status, food nutrition and preventive measures that
were taken by the family when they realized their child was having possible measles attack.
Z-scores was used to assess the nutritional value of food taken and the social behavioral
factors in the family (Bellini, 2017).
The research was undertaken and performed in accordance to the World Medical
Association Declaration of Helsinki of 2001. The data was analyzed using the latest SPSS
