Introduction
Professional development is considered as process of learning in order to develop or
maintain professional credentials and for this a person can adopt numbers of methods such as
attainment of conferences, formal coursework, informal opportunities of learning and many more
(Bertrand and Hughes, 2017). By conducting professional develop a person or employees can
enhance their skills, capabilities and knowledge on the regular basis which help them in
performing quality work in effective manner. The main aim of conducting this report is to
conduct professional development of a person who is mechanical engineer and want to make
career in manufacturing industry. For this they adopt different methods i.e. development of CPD
plan (continuous professional development), evaluation of achievement or learning log and
detail study of scope, objective and risk. Along with this it will also include ethical, social, legal,
security and professional issues which faced during the profession development. Through this
evaluation a person able to measure effectiveness of continuous development plan by which they
can develop effective or bright career.
Part one: Reflective CPD (continuous professional development)
Continuous professional development is considered as procedure of training and
development of professional knowledge as well as skills by adopting interactive, independent
and participation based learning (Cheung, 2016). In past I gain some experience in automotive
manufacturing industry which could be beneficial for me in order to building career in the same.
Company in which I gain my past experiences and achievements is Volkswagen which is one of
the leading automotive company which manufacture and sales automotive vehicles and its parts.
While I am conducting work their I go through several ups and downs at that time I able to get to
know that some of my skills that denotes my strengths and some are weaknesses. Below table is
given related to strong and weak skills which I get to know at similar industry:-

For every company it is essential to conduct evaluation of their quality management on
which their objective will be based then accordingly it will help them in analysing risk. Through
this they can also able to develop strategies as well as plans through which they can avoid risk in
effective as well as effectual manner (Chodorow, 2018). In respect of automotive manufacturing
industry, this process is also essential for them because at that industry changes are occur on
regular basis so it is essential for their employees to conduct improvement plan as per the needs
of management in quality accordingly so that they can sustain in market for the long time
duration. In automotive industry changes are occur at continuous basis so it is essential for
companies and employees who are working or want to work in similar industry to adopt changes
on regular basis. It is so because at this industry those companies as well as candidate get priority
who has updated skills, capabilities and knowledge. In order to this staff can adopt quality
management plan because it will help them in conducting development on the regular basis
according to need and demand of market and the quality they are seeking.
Through this type process a person able to enhance their capabilities with help of
certification learning in successful manner. There are number of benefits which are gained by a
company when they adopt quality management strategies and procedures such quality testing and

procedures take a long time to authorize the necessary activities, so the organization may plan

According to Tvenge and Martinsen, 2016, project management within the field like
mechanical engineering is not an easy task to perform while studying in the university or at
professional level as well, where an engineer is performing. Basically, the reason that came in
front is the uniqueness and complex procedures where, a small mistake may lead the whole
project to go through different difficulties where in the last wrong results can also be carried out.
Due to high investments, it is mandatory for the mechanical engineer to conduct proper analysis
before taking any sort of decisions. Along with this, it is also said that due to high number of
possibilities that a machine could pull out favourable outcomes, it is required for the project
manager to take into consideration of different tools and techniques so that right modifications
could easily be made.
On the other hand, if it is examined in a different way then, engineering project
management can be considered as a type of project management that focuses solely on
engineering projects (Wang, 2018). It uses all of the same standard methodologies and processes
as any other type of project management. This specialization is likely to appeal to anyone with
an engineering background who wants to get into the field of project management. Including
this, project management within the manufacturing industry, while centring the consideration on
managing engineers and engineering tasks that have the following characteristics:

 Processes are repeatable
 Work is ongoing, with no defined end
 Tasks are part of regular business operations
Including this, if it is talked about the focus of engineering project management within
the manufacturing sector then it is directly helping project managers along with the engineers to
manage different engineering projects and this has helped in meeting the requirements in

automotive business organisation i.e. Volkswagen where being a mechanical engineer it will be

In present context, there are ample number of work-based examples that can easily be
taken into consideration where, different project managers has effectively gone through different
issues that were directly linked with number of problems while installing a whole new machine
(Evans and Evatt, 2018). This could be understood with a good example of Volkswagen where,
it's mechanical and other engineers has developed a design of the software sensed when the car
was being tested and then activated equipment that reduced emissions.

Ethical issues: In present time, it has been analysed that ethical issues are directly linked
with the sentiments of the society and the situations as well that may impact in both negative and
positive sense in relation to the project that has been developed to resolve a particular issue
(Nielsen, 2019). While performing the project, researcher has gone through issues that were
directly linked with heavy radiations and pollution. This impacted negatively upon overall
performance on project management.
Legal issues: ANSI ASD & ISO are said to be some of the laws and regulations that were
directly linking with project, where the issue that was taken was directly linking with pollution
related issues, which was reduced by a software by the company (O'Sullivan and et. al., 2016).
This issue has hampered the whole process of developing the project.

Social issues: While performing the project, it is much needed for researcher to consider
perceptions of individuals so that no issues could take place while conducting the investigation
on a particular topic (Pahuja, Mardis and Jones, 2019).
Professional Issues: While conducting the investigation, on the topic that has been taken
into consideration a researcher conductor could go through different professional issues like
conflict among team mates and other individuals, which the researcher while performing this
research has faced. This affected the time duration of finishing the project in specified time
