maintain professional credentials and for this a person can adopt numbers of methods such as
attainment of conferences, formal coursework, informal opportunities of learning and many more
(Bertrand and Hughes, 2017). By conducting professional develop a person or employees can
enhance their skills, capabilities and knowledge on the regular basis which help them in
performing quality work in effective manner. The main aim of conducting this report is to
conduct professional development of a person who is mechanical engineer and want to make
career in manufacturing industry. For this they adopt different methods i.e. development of CPD
plan (continuous professional development), evaluation of achievement or learning log and
detail study of scope, objective and risk. Along with this it will also include ethical, social, legal,
security and professional issues which faced during the profession development. Through this
evaluation a person able to measure effectiveness of continuous development plan by which they

Part one: Reflective CPD (continuous professional development)
Continuous professional development is considered as procedure of training and
development of professional knowledge as well as skills by adopting interactive, independent
and participation based learning (Cheung, 2016). In past I gain some experience in automotive
manufacturing industry which could be beneficial for me in order to building career in the same.
Company in which I gain my past experiences and achievements is Volkswagen which is one of
the leading automotive company which manufacture and sales automotive vehicles and its parts.
While I am conducting work their I go through several ups and downs at that time I able to get to
know that some of my skills that denotes my strengths and some are weaknesses. Below table is
given related to strong and weak skills which I get to know at similar industry:-
Skills which denotes strength Skills which are weak
I have effective technical skills, problem
solving skills, interpersonal skills,
collaboration skills and many more.
My skills in which I am lacking behind are
mathematics, communication, lean

manufacturing industry (Greenfield and Greener, 2016). For example firm's can conduct optimal
productivity which lead to usage of proper resources as well as it will also help in making
employees happy. Through this industry can also attract qualified employees which leads to
8
attainment of goal as well as objectives in effective manner. In addition to this, it will also help
company in saving money because happy employees conduct their work in effective manner as
well as it will also help in utilising resources in effectual way. It will also help companies in
developing and maintaining positive image at the automotive industry as well as marketplace.
For risk appraisal an organisation can adopt number of practices such as train employees on
regular basis, develop work procedure, conduct activities for employees fitness, ensure
maintenance of equipments and structure of companies and many more.
In context of automotive manufacturing industry trends are changing on the regular basis
such as in current time they are using usage based insurance for vehicles, V2X and V2G
technology, technology related to vehicle as hub (Hair, Page and Brunsveld, 2019). Moreover,
automotive manufacturing industry are also adopting some other technology for example mild
hybrid, car health monitor, truck platooning and many more. So it is essential for me to develop
continuous improvement plan so that I can improve my skills, abilities and capabilities according
to the requirement of industry in effective as well as successful manner. Along with this, it will
also help me in developing my career in one of the best automotive manufacturing industry
around the world as well as enhanced skilled also help in gaining high salary package. It is also
necessary for me to conduct development on the regular basis so that I can develop as well as
sustain in manufacturing industry of automotive in effective way. In addition to this, trends of
respective industry change according to location, customers requirement and expectation so it is
important for me to regularly attain training as well as development session. This is so because it
will aid in development of skills, abilities and knowledge according to requirement of current
industry customers.
Log to record achievements in relation to the project
This is said to be one of the crucial section for an investigator, while conducting a project
management plan in relation to the subject that has been considered which is directly linked with
manufacturing industry (Hansen and Machin, 2018). Here, preparation of a log could directly aid
in managing the project in any sort of sector, in which an investigation is going on. Basically,
this aid in meeting the requirements of the different desired goals and objectives in specified
time frame that the researcher has developed in order to resolve a particular problem.

Research and apply appropriate knowledge
According to Tvenge and Martinsen, 2016, project management within the field like
mechanical engineering is not an easy task to perform while studying in the university or at
professional level as well, where an engineer is performing. Basically, the reason that came in
front is the uniqueness and complex procedures where, a small mistake may lead the whole
project to go through different difficulties where in the last wrong results can also be carried out.
Due to high investments, it is mandatory for the mechanical engineer to conduct proper analysis
before taking any sort of decisions. Along with this, it is also said that due to high number of
possibilities that a machine could pull out favourable outcomes, it is required for the project

manager to take into consideration of different tools and techniques so that right modifications
could easily be made.
On the other hand, if it is examined in a different way then, engineering project
management can be considered as a type of project management that focuses solely on
engineering projects (Wang, 2018). It uses all of the same standard methodologies and processes
as any other type of project management. This specialization is likely to appeal to anyone with
an engineering background who wants to get into the field of project management. Including
this, project management within the manufacturing industry, while centring the consideration on
managing engineers and engineering tasks that have the following characteristics:
Tasks are routine
Processes are repeatable
Work is ongoing, with no defined end
Tasks are part of regular business operations
Including this, if it is talked about the focus of engineering project management within
the manufacturing sector then it is directly helping project managers along with the engineers to
manage different engineering projects and this has helped in meeting the requirements in
specified time frame (Wei, 2019). This could be understood with a good example of an
automotive business organisation i.e. Volkswagen where being a mechanical engineer it will be
required to conduct the design of a whole new car's design. Including this, one key difference
that came in-front of here is that engineering project management particularly needs proper
management among different aspects of a particular project. Not just management of the
engineers or the engineering work. Some non-engineering tasks that an engineering project
manager still has to manage are:
Scheduling
Purchasing of materials
Approval of plan documentation
Budget and cost management
Evaluate legitimacy of all sources
Above mentioned secondary information (resource), that has been taken into
consideration on the basis of different standards that are directly linked and defended with many
of the elements like logic, justification and validity as well. Here, the different policies and

could easily be made.

of the elements like logic, justification and validity as well. Here, the different policies and
15
approaches that has been taken into consideration are ANSI ASD & ISO. PMI continues to
respond to practitioners’ needs for reliable professional tools. As an ANSI ASD (Accredited
Standards Developer), many of PMI’s global standards are also ANSI approved (Yuan, 2019).
PMI also continues to actively support and participate in ISO (International Organization for
Standardization) activities related to the field of project management. This has helped in building
number of justifications considering all the logics as well that are directly linking with rights
along with the acceptance in relation to the authorities. Through this, it can easily be said that
overall performance level is being carried out in rightful manner.
Relate knowledge to appropriate work-based examples
In present context, there are ample number of work-based examples that can easily be
taken into consideration where, different project managers has effectively gone through different
issues that were directly linked with number of problems while installing a whole new machine
(Evans and Evatt, 2018). This could be understood with a good example of Volkswagen where,
it's mechanical and other engineers has developed a design of the software sensed when the car
was being tested and then activated equipment that reduced emissions.
This significantly raised worry for both the general public and for the association too. Be
that as it may, programming turned the hardware down during normal driving, expanding
emanations far above legitimate breaking points, well on the way to spare fuel or to improve the
vehicle's torque and acceleration as well. Another specific example that can be considered over
here is of Jaguar where the investment in relation to different cars and other machineries. This
impacted negatively upon overall performance level of the company and of the research and
development team as well. Due to high investment among different projects, company went
through various dynamics like reduction among number of investors, high impact upon sales and
so on.
Justify all recommendations made
Considering the above mentioned information there are number of recommendations that
can be given while managing the project while performing a task at workplace within the
manufacturing industry, or while performing a project at university in relation to mechanical
engineering (Gravetter and Forzano, 2018). Some of these are presented underneath:
The primal recommendation, that can be given over here is to ensure that all stakeholders
understand the requirements, so that they can invest in a much more particular way and to

iii) Ethics, Legal, Social, Security and Professional Issues
Ethical issues: In present time, it has been analysed that ethical issues are directly linked
with the sentiments of the society and the situations as well that may impact in both negative and
positive sense in relation to the project that has been developed to resolve a particular issue
(Nielsen, 2019). While performing the project, researcher has gone through issues that were
directly linked with heavy radiations and pollution. This impacted negatively upon overall
performance on project management.
Legal issues: ANSI ASD & ISO are said to be some of the laws and regulations that were
directly linking with project, where the issue that was taken was directly linking with pollution
related issues, which was reduced by a software by the company (O'Sullivan and et. al., 2016).
This issue has hampered the whole process of developing the project.
Social issues: While performing the project, it is much needed for researcher to consider
perceptions of individuals so that no issues could take place while conducting the investigation
on a particular topic (Pahuja, Mardis and Jones, 2019).
Professional Issues: While conducting the investigation, on the topic that has been taken
into consideration a researcher conductor could go through different professional issues like
conflict among team mates and other individuals, which the researcher while performing this
research has faced. This affected the time duration of finishing the project in specified time
frame (Rubin and Babbie, 2016).
Conclusion
With the help of above mentioned information, it can easily be said that considering the
continuous improvement plan, personal development becomes really very easy for an individual.
While developing a project it is must for the project manager to conduct right analysis, through
