Background
Leaders and line manager uses different techniques and strategies to improve the employee well-being

because workers are the key pillars of the company and it is necessary to take care of the needs. For that, talent
management approaches has been used in different small and medium enterprise (SME) that helps to improve
the employee performance that contributes to performance of employee. Thus, to shed a light upon role of leader
and strategies employed by them, Nisa as a medium business entity used that provide range of products and
services to their customers. The study will assist to examine the challenges faced by the leaders in order to
implement strategies for employee development.
Aim and objectives
Aim: The aim of the study is to determine the role of line manager and leader towards employee development
using talent management strategies within Nisa.
Objectives:
To understand the concept of talent management within retail sector
To evaluate the strategies employed by Nisa’s leader to improve employee’s well-being and
development.
To identify the challenges faced by leaders while developing strategies for employee development.
To recommend the effectual practices to leader of Nisa regarding employee development.
Research questions:
What so you understand by talent management within retail sector?
What are the strategies employed by Nisa’s leader to improve employee’s well-being and development?
What are the challenges faced by leaders while developing strategies for employee development?
Section Two: Reasons for choosing this research project
The rationale for selecting this topic is such that it assists to determine the role of line manager and leader
toward employee development. That is why, it is recognized as a research issue because it is not easy for leader
to improve the employee well-being due to negative working environment and wrong talent management
approaches. Therefore, research on this topic will help the scholar to determine the importance of strategies and
role of leader within Nisa. For that, using a thematic data analysis, scholar could shed a light upon different role
of leader towards an employee development and well-being.
On the other side, another reason of conducting study on this topic is such that scholar have their own
personal interest that encourage to choose the topic. This in turn assists those in future regarding developing
skills and knowledge pertaining to role played by leader and line manager to employee development.
Section Three: Literature sources searched
Savanevičienė and Vilčiauskaitė (2017) stated that talent management is interrelated with the HR process in
which company attract, onboard, develop and motivate high performance of employees. The main aim of such
approach is to improve the business performance by employing range of practices that assist to make employees
more productive.
Bakker and Demerouti (2018) investigated in their study that leader’s main role is to determine the need and
wants of employees and for that they should offer benefits to support well-being and support mental health. In
the context of development Gauche, de Beer and Brink (2017) argued that effective training and development
session must be organized which in turn help to improve employee performance. Along with this, different

retention strategies must be introduced that helps to promote well-being of employees. Therefore, it has been
evaluated that through an effective organizational culture, company is able to deliver the values to employees
that let employee understand that they are also an important part of the company.
Neumeier and et.al., (2017) emphasized that leader in such situation, also faces different challenges that
causes opposite impact upon organization which include changing behaviour of employees that creates adverse
impact upon the overall development. Sometimes, leaders and line managers are not able to share their views
and this in turn become a challenge. Guest (2017) critically evaluated that financial constraints and
unavailability of effective resources are also consider another challenges faced by the small enterprise’s leader.
This in turn delays the development strategies and as a result, it causes lower retention rate within a firm, so
most of the employee leave an organization (Ways leader can improve the engagement and well-being, 2020).
This creates negative impact upon the brand performance of a company.

Section Five: Research approach and methodologies
Research type: In order to examine the role of leader towards employee well-being scholar will adopt
qualitative research type. Through chosen type, investigator is able to consider the theoretical aspects of line
manager and their role towards an employee development.
Research approach: Inductive research approach will be chosen in order to determine the strategies employed
by leader to improve employee development. Along with this, scholar will support the result through theories
